Ashley plays it well, but if you really want to hear it played properly with great emphasis on musicality look up Herbert Clarke. Herbert's last movement flows and rolls in a way no other online performance has ever done so. None of this quack quack quack stuff in the last variation, but an effect which is just beautiful to listen too.

finally someone who plays this tune with grace and style. not to take away from the Marsalis version, which is amazing and full of technical prowess, but this young lady combines technical expertise with musicality. Probably the best rendition I've heard.
dangeorges I'd have to disagree. I can understand why you would say that though. This version is slower and more intimate because it has only a piano accompaniment. It also is recorded in 2015 with better sound quality as well as a smallwr venue. She did amazing. But Wynton Marsalis version still hasn't been beaten. If the Wynton Marsalis of then played now in this venue he sound even more amazing then the orchestra recording.
Stephen Alston, so you disagree that this is the best rendition I have heard? That's so omniscient of you, to know what I REALLY think. And to tell me what I should believe and not believe.
dangeorges if that's the way you want to put it then yes. You might like something better that's doesn't mean it was done or played better. This woman did awesome but the fact is she did not do a better job than Wynton. You can get pissy and defensive all you want. I was respectfully disagreeing and have my reason as to why. Just because it's your opinion doesn't mean it's right and doesn't mean I have to agree with it.
You've convinced me. I do not believe this version is the best rendition I've heard. Your disagreement with me has turned me back to the Marsalis version. This version sucks. May God be praised that you set me straight.
Stephen Alston: I see what you're saying, but I must disagree with you on this one. dangeorges DID say that his (her?) comment didn't take away from the Wynton Marsalis version, which is, of course, perfectly executed. dangeorges is entitled to an opinion, and so are you. It DOES seem that you didn't really want to accept that opinion, and simply said "you're wrong."
I wonder if the people in the audience had any idea of what they just heard. I'd do well just to play the bottom notes. Well done, Ashley, very ,very well done.
Most of them don't. They are impressed by it but they don't know why it's impressing. If you haven't played a brass instrument you can't know what's involved into fast changing, high interval notes. Just as well they don't know the kind of pain involved into playing a long stretch of notes without removing the instrument from your lips like she does at the end, and probably why she chose to end it on a low f instead of a high one.

Yeah. Not to take anything from this because c'mon she sounds absolutely gorgeous!! I've only been playing for 6 years (I'm still in high school), so I'm clearly no expert... But like Nakariakov is insane. My favorite is his 1998 recording- just piano and trumpet. It's so clean and you can hear the crazy amount of control he has. Also his fancy finger flourish is insanely impressive. Also I'm really biased because I'm terribly in love Sergei Nakariakov...
@@remiguin4098 The best..?? There are many great renditions of this beautiful piece, but in my opinion the best is, by far, from the cornettist James Sheperd.
The way she stung the accented melody notes on the variations reminds me of how Nakariakov recorded it. Too bad the acoustics of the venue provided enough echo to almost bury the non-accented notes on the triplet and 32nd note variations. She resisted all of the accompanist's efforts to destroy the piece. Nicely done.
Great playing apart from the last variation. So much accent it pushes the “melody” notes out of tune. Peculiarly brash sound when everything else was truly excellent. Having a terrible accompanist wouldn’t have helped either.
That was a truly awesome performance which survived the accompanist's best effort to ruin it. Had this been recorded better and with a better accompaniment, it might have been the best performance of this piece that I've heard. He just dragged her performance down. Seriously. She had to slow the tempo down. You can hear how she tried to get him uptempo, but he just didn't have the skill.
Incredible! On of the greatest cornet solos, we've ever heard. I hear her warm heart in her sound. She is such a charming person and great musician. She shows us how to play music. Thank you so much!
Very impressive performance done with seemingly no effort. I agree with what others have said, many have no clue exactly how difficult that song really is. Every person who was a trumpet player in band wanted to play that song. At least until they got to about page 3 and then realized that was not going to happen! Great version. Very talented young musician!
This recording is live in an intimate setting of a church. This is not a big money production. Just Ashley playing and sharing her music for 1 or 1000's. Ashley doesn't play the instrument. That’s because this piece came out of the brass band era where they were cornetists, not trumpeters. The cornet ruled back then. I personally don’t care for the sound of a cornet over a trumpet, but it certainly has its place.

Merci pour belle prestation de la méthode d arban
Wonderful--using the cornet!
Very impressive. Great job
Wonderful that Ashley was recently named as the latest in a long line of virtuoso trumpet players to play with The Canadian Brass!
Orquestra Carnival Of Venice.
VIVA A ARTE
🍸🌍🎷...BRASIL..
Bravo! Good taste and musical instincts.
Brava! Beautifully done, sensitive, and masterful--I don't how you did that closing portion. It encourages me in my own studies which I have resumed, after a long hiatus, at age 71. Wishing you all the best.
Thank you. I liked it very much. A virtuoso game. Probably need to learn and train for a long time, so to play.
amazing~~
So beautiful~
Jkejieji
probably the best execution of carnival of Venice that I ever heard
Amazing!!!
I just love it
Precious tone and interpretation.
What a wonderful performance. She deserves a better accompanist and better audio.
Bravo excellent outstanding performance
What a stunning performance! Well done!
I thought this was the Arban version. It is very difficult. She makes it sound easy, but that is because she is brilliant.
Eu sinto um imensa felicidade escutando essa maravilha ❤️
Excellent! Great job Ashley!
Hey that's brilliant, did you hear my last variation? Great sound!.
Absolutely superb!
Ashley, I love you! What a beautiful sound you make. I'm a trumpet player- wanna be(professional woodwind player). I will follow your progress. love, John.
Ha ha! A woodwind player want to be trumpet player!
Just teasing. This reminds me of a joke that used to go around when I was in college. What do you call a failed trumpet player? Answer: A baritone player. LOL!
Such dolce triple tonguing!
Brava!! Suono pulito e cristallino.
I'm an absolute idiot. I had this playing at 1.5x the speed, and I had absolutely no idea. I was so confused and so impressed by this performance that I couldn't believe it was real. It Wasn't. But the original speed was still impressive, and still a very good video!
😂😂😂
Beautifully done. Technical prowess and musicality. And easy on the eye!
Very, very well done, Ashley.
Unerhört gut! Überragend!
That’s some impressive chops!👍🏼
Bravo! Mendez is still the greatest, but this young lady is marvelous!
2nd best version I've heard. Doc Severinson's version is faster....he triple toungues his, but this one is very good too...
Sergei's version sounds very nice too, especially like seeing him play.
Oh, my goodness. Thrilling.
Beautiful job on a very difficult piece. Very nice sound an excellent musicality. I notice that's a Cornet, not a Trumpet.+++++
That’s because this piece came out of the brass band era where they were cornetists, not trumpeters. The cornet ruled back then. I personally don’t care for the sound of a cornet over a trumpet, but it certainly has its place.
It’s great to have such talent.
YIKES! Few things in life are perfect. THIS IS!!!
Maravilhoso, amei.
