OMG that last piece has incredible tonguing. I have no idea how he is able to have such crisp sounds while moving notes while triple tonguing. I know I still have difficulty, especially in that higher range where everything is closer together. This man has talent
Wow, a pre 1966 Bach Stradivarius long bell cornet with reverse 3rd slide stop. Fabulous horns either Mt. Vernon, or earliest Elkhart vintage. Chris has made quite a career for himself.
MERCI Monsieur Christoper Martin .
Such a sweet and vibrant cornet sound. I will never get tired of coming back and listening to this! I think Arban would be blown away if he could have heard this.
Absolutely fascinating tone and articulation, I could only dream of being anywhere near this master’s level of skill, and I practice every day in the hopes of doing so. What an inspiration.
Magnifique concert de grande classe supérieure ! EXCELLENTISSIME performance ! Magnifiques exécutantes ! Merci. Compliments et salutations de Toulouse France
This just reminded me that I should go back to the Midwest Clinic. I went to the 75th anniversary with some friends from school but it always lands on finals week
I agree with the comment below that he could make a garden hose ring. I like the warmth of the cornet. He is now with the NY Philharmonic I guess. This is a big Bravo.
@@jochem1880 not very good, that was four years ago. Since then I moved to being a pianist, but I'm doing college marching band so I've slowly been getting back into playing trumpet again.
Chris is a monster. Prefer his C trumpet sound on his old Bach vs. the Yamaha Chicago C, although he'd sound great playing a garden hose. Looks like a vintage Strad cornet long bell vs. Shepherd crook version. Fantastic performance.
@@jean-philippeallard6221 he was Principal Trumpet of the Atlanta Symphony at the time, and would win the Chicago Symphony Principal Trumpet job the next year. He became the Principal trumpet of The New York Philharmonic since maybe 5-7 years ago.
It's a Bach Stradivarius long-bell cornet from the early New York City period, to judge by the backward-facing third-valve-slide stop screw. Also, for even more mellowness, the bell is made of "gold" brass, with high copper content. I will guess that it's a large bore, which Mr. Bach, himself, favored.
Chris is amazing (as always). The conductor is great. The ensemble, however, while technically correct, is artistically stale, dull, pedantic & inexpressive. That’s why I will neither up, nor downvote.
abankse83 as music moves on in progress it becomes less of being musical and more of playing the right notes. It don’t think it should be viewed that way so I try my best to focus on the musicality of my pieces.
This is a live performance with likely very little rehearsal time. Understand the context, and... comparing any two players at this exceptional level of playing is a pretty fruitless exercise.

I don’t think he’s done practicing yet.
How about now?
Still alive?
@@adamwang13 Dunno man lets hope hes okay
2 years of practice, you must be getting up there~
Rhe cornet has such amellow sweet tone as compared to the more piecring trumpet.
Felicidades
This wind ensemble sounds GREAT!!! Oh, yeah... the soloist does too! Don't forget the great job the conductor is doing!!! BRAVO, all!
...and the sound, those lower notes! Immense body, yet refinment. Bravissimo.
Réellement sublime ! Totalement fantastique ! RT Toulouse
I missed attending this performance in person because I had to get my wisdom teeth out. Thank you for posting it.

This is just wonderful music! Great artist! Thanks for the pleasure of being able to hear this music.
Absolutely masterful!!
He makes it sound so easy----fantastic!
Sarah when you are able to do this you’re on the right way
Not fantastic, brilliant
What a nice tune. And well executed. Think some day I can play this piece too.

I'm a junior high school student, and I'm practicing this now. OMG it's pretty hard.
Specially it's Intro's Cadenza. And the third variation
Impresionante!!!
Man I'm playing a portion of this piece for an audition, and now I feel really inexperienced hearing this great performance!
Yay same!
Dont forget he play Trumpet all his life and he is a pro

Excellent play 👍
Beautiful tone and technique. I sometimes play this on my clarinet - with varying degrees of success (or failure).😢 Mr. Martin makes it look so easy.
Parabéns, execução perfeita 👏👏👏👏
Bravo Chris! Such wonderful cornet playing!
WOW! What precision.
awesome playing
Zauberei!!!!! Fantastisch
Bravo!!!! Me encantó.
Love this!!
This is the solo I chose to work on for ensemble auditions this fall. I currently hate myself.
Did it work out?
That tone oh my god😍
@Nate Cormier I agree

In my opinion this is second only to Wynton. Flawlessly played and very expressive and musical.

nice voice
I'm playing this for a competition but on euphonium very hard to reach those high notes for me but I'm working on it
Fun! That's got a lot of polish

Is that Q from the 007 movies???

Is it possible to perform this piece a little bit slower?

Looks like a Bach Stradivarius Bb cornet in brass lacquer.

Not bad, but had no heart, listen. To marsalis play it...
Richard Garza You know, I just don't compare people to marsalis anymore. He too good.

Definitely not as polished as the Marsalis recording but even in this unaffectionate and disconnected rendition, still amazing.
