I do like my outrigger outdoors gigs. Never had any problems keeping fish on them. My buddy bought the swamp eye lights and I wasn't too impressed for the money. I made my own and they do a pretty good job.
@@johnjennings-JJ the swamp eyes are pretty dang bright. the only time I've seen them dim is usually due to a low charge battery. we run ours on 2 deep cycles and they do real well, friend of mine runs on alternator and they are even brighter on alternator because that's basically the equivalent of a fully charged battery all the time. But if you were able to make your own that's great, we used to make our own but had too many problems with them holding up for the long haul. never had a problem like that with swamp eyes. keep stickin - doing good.
After thinking about it for a while it came to me. He didn't get any flounder that night. He probably forgot to charge his batteries and blamed it on dim lights! I will have to reconsider those swamp eyes when/if mine all die. Thanks for reminding me.
I love it. They hide just about anywhere and it can be hard to see them but it is just about that time of the year for it to start back up again! Thanks for checking it out.
I'm guessing you have the gopro mounted to a fixed spot on the boat? Looks much better stationary like that than if it was on your head or the gig. Great footage. It's interesting that on an outgoing tide they were still way up in that shallow water. I would think they would be by ledges, deeper water, or creek mouths waiting to ambush bait coming out of the shallows.
I had my camera mounted to one of the pvc poles that my lights are on. I get dizzy sometimes watching the camera view from a head mount. Just too much moving around to me. Depending on what part of the tide falling i have caught them almost with their backs out of the water...guess they do sleep!
14' jon boat. Homemade lights. I got started watching Outdoor Hydroponics channel. ruclips.net/video/B7ro37_0RcE/видео.htmlsi=VA_TbwVbryJC3WTZ This video got my interest going. I made that exact setup and still have it but them I got on a 12v led system. Order some chips and epoxy from amazon and that's what I use. Love it. My buddy has some Outrigger Outdoor lights and they are ok but he built his own too. Right now I run 400 watts worth on the front of the boat and it lights up the water pretty good. 2 batteries with 200 watts hooked up on each. Lasts all night. Make sure to do your homework on the cool, warm, neutral lights colors and the wattage for each. Some guys put current regulators and such but I fuse mine and just run straight power to them if the batteries start ro run out the lights go dimmer!
I saw a Jerry LED version of it and thought about it but never got around to making one or buying one. Honestly don't use green light unless I go crappie fishing.
What type of body of water is this, a bay? Im trying to start out but dont know where to start, i feel like the beaches by me will have too many waves even at night
I have the luxury of being able to fish/gig in the intercoastal waterway and away from the beach directly. I go in the edge of bays, the intercoastal waterways, rivers leading to the beach, small inlets at the beach where i can hide my jon boat from those waves. Went last night with my youngest son, in this same area as the video, and it was packed with boats but he did good and got his first "no help at all from dad" flounder.
@@johnjennings-JJ Nice that's awesome! Thanks for helping to point me in the right direction, I can think of some spots that are by me. I would be doing this in NY/NJ, I haven't really heard of anyone doing it here but im gonna give it a shot! Thanks again!
My son and I pole the jon boat. I have never walked when flounder gigging. We just stick to sand flats and try to find oyster bars. Clear water like that was just lucky this time.
I don't really have a spot to name because it takes a while to learn a body of water. You can find flounder all over from Hilton Head and anywhere along the ICW. BUT in the last 2 years i have been up and down the coast just looking for those sandy flats and that is what we have been trying.
I have homemade lights. I couldn't afford nice ones like Jerry's or Outriggers so i bought my own stuff on Amazon and followed a video on RUclips. They worked out pretty good.
If you are down by Parris Island I could almost guarantee they are there 👍. I got a large 8 ft. poplar closet rod from Lowe's and also a 1 inch aluminum pole for mine. I like the weight of the closet rod better. I re-stain it and polyurethane it every year.
Sorry fellas , but music with hunting/fishing videos is a no-go for me. Its much better to hear y’all talk and walk then hear music…just my 2 cents. But i did watch he video.
Thanks, I appreciate it. It was one of my first that I played around with the music editing and such. I didn't think anyone would want to hear about a teenager problems or video game hacks... so i took the beating for all of us who watch!
Can't beat those outrigger outdoors flounder gigs. The swamp eye lights are pretty amazing too. Nice job sticking some good doormats!

Great footage. Thank you
Thanks. One of the better nights for clear water.
How that flounder was just sitting on top of that oyster bed....WOW!

Dude the under water shots are killer! Good job..
Thanks. I got lucky with some nice clear water and a few fish. I'm addicted to it now.

My son said the video had an issue with sounds/music so I fixed and reposted.
Amazing recording...
Oh captain my captain!!!
Ever gig anything like those where you are from?
I'd love to try this. where do you find that clear water in SC? Are you walking?

I'm from S.C. the water clears up nicely in the fall and winter.
Absolutely. I just wish I had more luck finding flounder in the winter weather. Guess I should try trout fishing instead!
Do you shut your motor off when you're near the spot or use the trolling motor.?
I haven't used a trolling motor in a couple years. My son and I just push the boat with our gigs/pole.
Look at those Gigs !!!! LOL you could kill the KRAKEN with those things.......
I do hope to meet that KRAKEN one day. I got a great recipe ready so I can invite him to dinner!
What lights are you running?

Door Matttttts going to get me a gig, and good light,
Awesome. Me and my kids love it. Don't have to buy bait!
Awesome 👌
It is awesome! Try it sometime.
Do you think they get near Saint Helena area? How long are your poles and what are they made of. I ordered two of the Creekside 4 prong
