I think Ben liked Dan from the beginning but after the tuberculosis story was sure of it. And believe he killed his gang and got on the train not only because he was angry about Dan's death but also to make sure Will would get paid and no one would come after him. And it wouldn't surprise me if that was all he did for the Evans family. Whistling for his horse tells us that he's not making it to Yuma.
A very good modern western: "True Grit" (2010 version) and one with comedic elements: "Maverick" (1994) A few of the best mid-century western movies, each with a different flavor: "The Magnificent Seven" (1960 original) "The Outlaw Josey Wales" (1976) "Breakheart Pass" (1975) "The Shootist" (1976) "The Professionals" (1966) "The Wild Bunch" (1969)
I love this one! Tragically underrated in my opinion! Easily one of my favorite Westerns! Christian Bale and Russell Crowe are perfect together for this movie!
Great reaction! One of my two favorite modern westerns. My other - that I like even a touch more - is the Coen Brothers’ remake of *True Grit* with Matt Damon, Jeff Bridges, and Hailee Steinfeld. I also strongly recommend my all-time favorite western: *The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance* with Jimmy Stewart, John Wayne, and a brilliant performance by a man named Lee Marvin. I love your channel. Keep up the great work!
Thank you so much for the wonderful suggestions!! Yes lot's of people have suggested the Coen Brothers' version of True Grit specifically (Not that I've seen either) So I definitely think I'll check that out next up!!
A fist full of Dollars, A few Dollars More and The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Those three movies are Clint Eastwood at his finest and arguably the greatest westerns of all time.
Here first... Good movie... Will update after the reaction. Great Reaction! In the South 13% of men between 10-44 in 1860 were dead by the end of the Civil War. Many of those left were very damaged and dangerous men.
This is a great streak of westerns you're on, MJ! I've lived in Texas all my life, and I just started my love of westerns last year. There's something cathartic about watching how people live in a world where law and order is a dream, and doing what's right isn't always black and white. It's as close as we get to an odyssey in our recent history. I really hope you check out spaghetti westerns soon. They were so called because most of them were filmed in Italy and Spain by Italian directors. Many of the actors were also Italian and Spanish, with the exception of a few of the main characters. The movies are still in English, though. Probably the greatest such director was Sergio Leone, who filmed what's known as the Dollars Trilogy. The first movie is A Fistful of Dollars (1964). The second is For a Few Dollars More (1965). The third and greatest of the trilogy is The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly (1966). All three star Clint Eastwood in his mid thirties. Perhaps Sergio Leone's crown jewel is his 1968 masterpiece, Once Upon a Time in The West. All four of these movies feature scores by the legendary Ennio Morricone, whose music was so iconic that it is still used today in popular media. If you've seen Kill Bill Volume 2, you've heard Morricone's music. Anyway, I've rambled too long. I'm enjoying these western reactions, though. I hope to see many more as long as you're enjoying them.
Another amazingly underrated southern/western movie worth checking out would be “The assassination of Jessie James by the coward Robert Ford” starring Brad Pitt and Casey Affleck It’s about the real life outlaw Jessie James who I would say is up there with people like Ned Kelly for being both infamous and hated by the establishment but also seen as a folk hero and loved by the people.
Great Reation to this Movie..... Russel Crowe and Chritian Bale played their parts awesomely...... As Much as I enjoy this movie, I personnally I prefer the 1957 original.....
@@MovieJoob In the 1957 version Ben is played by actor Glenn Ford who spent most of the 1940's and 1950's playing the Hero, so it was a switch for him to play the villian.... Awesome Performance as Well.....
In case you missed it. Ben wade constantly told us stories of how his parents abandoned him. In the final scene he understands that everything Dan has done and will do is all for his family. From living in a dry climate for his son, to taking this job for money. Hes not stubborn, he’s a family man. Which is why Ben grew to like and respect him. At the end the son wants to shoot Ben, but he understands that if he does, he ruins his dad’s accompaniment and everything that came with it. So well done
Good choice. Underrated movie and well paired with two of Australia's gifts to the world...Jade and Russell Crowe. Thank you for an enjoyable Friday night from about 9,000 miles away.
My all black shorthair "Sassy" says hello! 😸. I see someone recommended "No Country for Old Men". I'll second it! Not a "western" per say... but a period piece (1980 IIRC)... kind've a modern western. And a Coen brothers movie as well! Thanks for sharing, Jade 😊
If you want to keep on with the Western binge but are in the mood for something a little more light-hearted for next time, I would recommend either "Blazing Saddles" or "Three Amigos" (Three Amigos will undoubtedly be easier to edit, since Blazing Saddles comes armed with a full compliment of N-bombs)
@@MovieJoob So many movies end up being direct remakes or inspired by earlier works. There are certain stories that get done over and over again, it's rather astonishing.
"He's such an interesting character, Ben... very charming but it's scary because you know how cold he can be..." Oh gawd, in other words you like him 😄 The dangerous "bad boy" type. He's exactly the type that women fall for and then regret it. Yet, they can't resist them. they love that "confidence", as misplaced as it is.
Great reaction Jade! The Magnificent Seven (1960) or the 2016 remake. The 2016 version wasn’t bad IMO Dances with Wolves (1990) Or basically any Western movie Clint Eastwood was in Also the original 310 to Yuma (1957) is good too.
-McCabe And Mrs. Miller from 1971 is a great western, just a great film period, and one of my favorites. -The Proposition from 2005 is a fantastic Australian western. Neither of those movies are exactly, um, happy movies. They are both rather bleak and The Proposition is pretty darn violent. Excellent nonetheless.
4:40 Post-Civil War medicine wasn't nearly _modern_ as we see it today, but four years of nonstop casualties advanced medical science in America significantly. Gut shot and stuck out in the wilderness is still probably deadly, but with intervention within a short time it's not nearly the death sentence is was.
The modern version of the Gatling gun is named - M134 mini gun. Those who have chosen jihad against the infidels, lovingly refer to it as “The Breath of Allah.”
Tho I Like the original better the remake is also amazing. I put this up there with High noon and a few others about the guts to do what is right even at the cost of your own life

"Open Range" is an outstanding movie.
Cheesy. 310 is a real movie
Open range is another great modern western, Kevin Costner and Robert Duvall are amazing in it
A great neo-western, also with Ben Foster:
"Hell or High Water" (2016)
Thank you so much for the suggestion!! 🙌
I really appreciate it!
I think Ben liked Dan from the beginning but after the tuberculosis story was sure of it. Yes you're so right, he seemed endeared to him for a while and thus really wanting to do this for him and his family!!
And yes he must escape with the horse prior to arriving in Yuma!!
True Grit (2010) is amazing.
Thank you so much for the suggestion!!
I've been seeing this one a lot so I'll definitely do this next!
"The Outlaw Josie Wales" is a great Western from 1976, Starring and Directed by Clint Eastwood.
Every Clint Eastwood movie basically 🔥
A very good modern western:
"True Grit" (2010 version)
and one with comedic elements:
"Maverick" (1994)

"Breakheart Pass" (1975)
"The Shootist" (1976)

"The Wild Bunch" (1969)
Oooh a whole bunch of suggestions!! Thank you so much!
I really appreciate it!!
For one of the older ones, I suggest Once Upon a Time in the West. Iconic actors directed by Sergio Leone, with an all-time score.
Thank you so much for the suggestion!!
I love this one! Tragically underrated in my opinion! Easily one of my favorite Westerns! Christian Bale and Russell Crowe are perfect together for this movie!
They bounced off each other really well here I agree!!
Russell did such an outstanding job with Ben Wade though my goodness!!!
@@MovieJoob YEAH! I keep forgetting how cool he is but how he can switch from cool and smooth to menacing and cold with no problem
Ben Foster as Charlie Prince as well. Bad ass character.
@@buzzkillington3840 YES! I knew I forgot another actor! Thank you! I think he outshined both Christian AND Russell!
Pale Rider Clint Eastwood
Thank you so much for the suggestion!

A great but underrated western is Appaloosa, with Viggo Mortensen and Ed Harris.
Agreed!
"My name is nobody" from 1973 is a good starter.lighthearted...cool music, and all that stuff that made "good old western movies" good.
"The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford" is a highly overlooked gem.. Brad pitt👍🔥🤘
A fist full of Dollars, A few Dollars More and The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Those three movies are Clint Eastwood at his finest and arguably the greatest westerns of all time.
No Country for Old Men. An absolute MASTERPIECE.
Thank you so much for the suggestion!!
This seems like a must watch!!
This movie made me cry so damned hard the first time I watched it...Ben Wade is such a well written character...
Another great pick for a reaction. :)
I'm so glad you think so!!
I really enjoyed watching it!!
@@MovieJoob Of course! 🙂 Don't forget about "OPEN RANGE" (2003), it's not one to miss.
