Definitely my favorite rock/alternative drummer of all time. Then I started listening to Ministry too back then. And I was like this is my new favorite drummer. This guy is unreal. He’s so good he sounds like two people. And then I found out it actually was two drummers. One on electronic pads and the other on a regular kit. I’ve seen Tool live three times and Carey is the real deal. Unlike Lars Ulrich from Metallica, he doesn’t use triggers to clean up sloppy quadruple bass playing. Never got to “see” Maynard either. He was always in shadow, or behind a thin screen. I’ve heard he does that a lot. But I’ve seen live videos where he’s out in full view. Guess I just wasn’t lucky enough to see one of those shows.
I've seen them 5x now and it has always been beyond amazing. One time I was 30ft away from center stage, rolling on E, during the 10,000 Days tour.... Beyond cosmic.
🤘😎👍 First time I was in High School '98. It was at a 5000 max capacity open air Collage Amphitheater with zero seats only grass.. on l s d for the first time. Epic couldn't begin to explain it.
Stephen Garvey i first saw them first on the Lateralus tour, which was crazy but i wasnt that close, then last week saw them and was also 30 feet away but was rolling on 2.5 g of mushrooms...just epic 🙌🏼
Want your mind blown even more? What's crazier is he's actually a Jazz Drummer. Their unique sound is mostly a result of the jazz principles he brings to his style of metal drums
I love seeing people in the early stages of discovering Tool. They has an intensity and complexity that you can't find anywhere else. When you find yourself listening to it to relax, you'll know that you have truly become a Tool fan.
I love the fact you're always yourself in your reactions... You are very genuine in how you let whatever style of music you listen to, move the spirit inside of you...
The fast drumming is through (a) practice, and (b) a double bass drum pedal. That let's you use both your feet to strike the bass drum faster. Here's a drum cover of Aenima where you can see her using the double bass pedal. First you see her using it as a single pedal, and then for the fast bit she switches to double bass: ruclips.net/video/Z7IvZyRl4Tg/видео.htmlm51s
The first time I heard this song I was stationed at NAS Lemoore, California (near Fresno). As I was listening to this song I was reading the documentation that came with the CD and noticed that it had a map of Cali on it. With the entirety of that sausage looking valley in central California was flooded. It freaked me out, given where I was living at the time.
Glad your feeling better! Got to see Tool live in Melbourne on sunday and they slayed as per usual. It was the Danny Carey Show. His drumming is the best its ever been and hes 59 yrs old! Please do The Grudge next!!!
Also highly suggested Tool songs: Parabol+Parabola (combined), Lateralus, The Grudge, Eulogy, Schism, Lost Keys + Rosetta Stoned (combined), The Patient, Ticks & Leeches, Vicarious, 46&2, Right in Two, H
TOOL ARMY HERE, INVINCIBLE OFF THEIR NEW ALBUM A MUST, I LOVE THIS SONG GREAT DRUMS. WHERE IS PARABOLA BEEN WAITING SINCE YOU DID PARABOL, PARABOLA IS THE BEST PART, YOU NEED TO HEAR IT, AMAZING SONG VERY UPLIFTING AND BEAUTIFUL.
I'm subbing because you understand that Tool 'make a movie' with every song, that's so true. I think it would benefit you to also maybe look at the lyrics when listening to them, they sort of put that last piece of the puzzle into place.
love how 5:50 Carey starts that rolling drum that evokes the building wave, growing at pace out at sea.... then guitar raises it and the wave crests. can almost feel the air being sucked away.
The bass drum part that you like that starts at around 5:45 is a triplet that goes: Da, Ta, Ta, Da, Ta, Ta, Da, Ta, Ta...Etc and it's played with the feet in this way: left, right, right, left right, right, left, right, right or it could be played: right, left, left, right, left, left; right, left left; it just depends on the drummer. Then Danny Carrey (the drummer) is accenting certain notes on his tom toms while playing the above bass drum triplets.
You can't go wrong., Their whole discography is a masterclass, and they change and evolve over time. Early on, Tool is very heavy and angry, but as they matured, their songs maintain an edge, but they become so much more artistic, expressive, and complex in their compositions. Some people dissed their new album, but Tool evolves. And they don't care what fans want from them. You're either going on their ride, or you're not. There's something essential about them that given them an identity, but no album is the same.
Been listening to this band since 1995 and I still get the chills listening to them. I would most definitely recommend Wings for Marie 10,000 days for a real tear jerker.
This song is based off of a Bill Hicks stand up routine, who was a comedian and friend of the band. Third Eye also featured him in the intro talking bout how drugs did good things for the world. It was sort of their way of saying goodbye to their friend. It's also good that you did all the Rush reactions before these, it was proper preparation!
This is my favorite Tool song, ever. I felt it with you, Lady. "I can't imagine why you wouldn't welcome any change my friend". That lyric hits me hard every time.
If someone hasn’t already commented about it, the lead singer has two other bands. One is A Perfect Circle and the other is Puscifer. Both have good music too.

Since you seem to like Tool and Rage so much, check out the live version of Bottom. Also, check Rosetta Stoned and Tempest to really be blown away by the drums.
Its humanly impossible to listen to 5 Tool songs and and not realize by then theres Tool and then theres Tool and theres everything else every other band is playing checkers while Tool is playing some crazy form of futuristic 3d space chess. FACTS
One of the traits many great rock singers in the 90's shared was singing extremely close to the microphone making their voices seem haunting and powerful without putting too much strain on their vocal chords. Singers like Maynard, Tori Amos, Eddie Vedder and Chris Cornell all sang unusually close to the microphone. It takes abnormal control, but also opens up possibilities as the lessened strain allows for greater range and hold.
Tool in just a vulgar display of musicianship and studio production. Full beast mode. Oh man, thank you for this one!! Needed much more of your reaction to the meaning though. This song is about the desperately needed destruction of California. OK maybe just LA. Whether tidal waves, or meteor showers, or earthquakes, Tool needs it all flushed away!! This song was 20+ years ago, but even more true today.
If you can find the CD, there's a picture inside that you can slip under the front of the case, and when you tilt it back and forth America floods .... then is normal .... then FLOODS .....
I’ve seen them twice, back in 96 in a small venue during their Aenima Tour. It was a small building, whichever only held a it 2500 people. I thought the place was going to explode...the building rattled and shook me to being a LIFE LONG fan since the beginning...with Opiate. Stay strong on your journey. With each song, a deeper part of your soul is revealed.
Your face, your full-body reaction to this...is the correct reaction to hearing Tool.
If you react to Tool, we will come.
Tool Army
Chris Cary 🌀facts
We beat out Taylor Swift. The army is very real.

Here to fsu sir
"Every song is like a movie." Perfect.
Again, if you want your face melted off by drumming, do Invincible or Pneuma off of their newest album

Eulogy
You may be due for an Audit my friend.
I love this song!!!
Can’t wait to see your face when Jambi’s groove starts.
Girly your gonna be a Tool fan very soon, it gonna get it in your blood....
No the drummer (Danny Carey) doesn't have 30 drum sets but he has 8 arms.🤘
The Alien Octopus!!
@@ATLAS031 heard the one about the 3 aliens and an octopus walk into a bar...?😎
Lol when they were writing the new album people who heard it early said the same thing.
Jeff Matthews man Danny Carey is just other-damned-worldly.

I’ll see them for the 6th time in a couple weeks. So stoked!
I agree with this. I seen them in Milwaukee last Halloween and it was the greatest experience.

My all time favorite of theirs. This song and album for that matter. Still relevant today.

Tool has so many great songs. Give a listen to Lateralus!
The whole album. From start to finish.

You will NEVER experience a better show live, than an indoor Tool concert - I challenge anyone to disagree!
Tool is my favorite band been a fan since 96 but I would have to say Rammstein is the best show you could possibly attend
After watching 3 of your Tool reactions, you have become my new favorite RUclipsr that started going down the rabbit hole that is Tool. Subscribed.
This is the first tool song I ever heard. Hooked ever since. Tool are the truth.
