@@jarich7667 It was the only song of the night when the audience was allowed to get their phones out. There was quite a bit of movement earlier (including a fair bit of air drumming)
Tool have this policy everywhere. Every show. Phones for the specified track they state only, or (I’ve had the experience! By accident I might add, it was so long since they’d last toured & smart phones didn’t exist back then), the security will go nuts if they see you with a phone, and they ain’t playing around either. I was lucky bc it was a genuine accident, everyone who was very intentionally disregarding the rules was seriously kicked out. The last time I’d seen them was late 06 at a festival where they were starting to play some tracks from 10,000 days, which was either just or about to be just released. No iPhones back then, & you’d never be stupid enough to lug a camera into a 50k flat surface giant mosh pit in the first place. When they introduced "The Pot”, everyone was psychotic, lit up, & lost in the experience, you couldn’t even breathe towards the back. It was insanity, bc people WEREN’T on phones. I’m essentially agreeing with you, but if I had had a chance to show everyone what that death pit looked like, or for my personal memories just for one song, I would. I’m glad this poster has that memory too.
policy of Tool or the Venue now days? Tool was a guest @ 98 Ozzfest & Ozzy"s show his rules, Keep off stages, everything Else was game on i saw it @ NISSIAN PAVILION outside Wash D.C., no b s rules or excess of rules or cops were resent at all, granted was few security rental cops around the stages ,no smart phones then,I had a 35mm camera wasn't tryin advertise it cause let me thru ticket gate with it, just played it cool & calm it was a different era/time...things were just different, still wuz crazy, insane, awesome fest !!! Disturbed or God Smack headlined of course Ozzy took stage last, it being his party,I can't remember anything after uh think GODSMACK took stage eleven ish pm with Disturbed playing after that & Tool played @ 9ish pm .& couple other Top Shelf Bands, had that kinda talent in one crazy day , three stages going mash pits @all them, sold beer, smoke wuz everywhere, few people moving thru seats selling LSD u name it was there & with 50000 plus metal heads party hard & peeps were civil it was a Diff time guess , peeps all having great time, i was lucky enuff & won 4 vip tickets & a rented bus w/Driver for 48 hours to take us to NISSIAN PAVILION outside Wash D C. , won trip off local Radio here in RVA ,my 35mm camera I had still got it, its Not Digital yet I got some awesome pics of the Bands to prove it really did happened .. best music live ever heard. .. @@ThomasMeadows-v2b There are two tour riders, one which is technical (equipment the venue has to provide, lighting, sound engineers, anything to do with their stage set up eg) & another to do with what the artist requires from the venue. Eg they want 5 bottles of champagne, a cheese platter, white roses, etc etc. So this would probably fall under Security, with venue staff (you’d have a different one for every venue / festival site etc.) having to mandate that security can confiscate phones or unauthorised flash photography, unless it’s at the agreed time. Then when you buy the tickets, it’s in the Ts&Cs that you must adhere to those rules.
Yeah, I’ve seen more movement in a cold turd . Phones have ruined gigs, everyone watching the show through their phones when the band is right there in front of them. Sad

The crowd kills the vibes all dead
it's a seated arena, no moshing sadly
No energy, Maynard needs to be back up front.
Back drop sucks
