      I found it useful, but I have had issues under 500m if standing closed to high trees or tree lines I cant move away from. Even in open areas where a line of trees will kill the signal if not going higher. I normally work in the 5-15m height, when filming atletes on bikes, runners ans so on. Going 1500m away is not really something useful, maybe in the mountains.

      so I'm just curious about... why does the signal to the controller matter for quality of content if you are using a micro sd to record everything on the drone? I didn't think that recorded quality was dependent on signal strength in any way whatsoever. Just asking.

  • @ihackyourtoaster3021
    @ihackyourtoaster3021 2 года назад +84

    What's good about DJI drones, apart from the signal strength which some peoeple may say are questionable, is how safe they are even if you can't really see them. I've flown drones "dangerously" over the years but I've never lost one due to loss of control. Knowing how to use RTH has done wonders and has saved me thousands of dollars as these things can literally fly by themselves back to you. Who care how far they can fly if they can't come back, amirite?

    • @NavdeepSingh-bt2cc
      @NavdeepSingh-bt2cc 2 года назад +2

      Honestly speaking achiving this kind of performance tells us how far we have progressed as humans in the trchnology. Think its that tiny and still u get the video with that little remote ans drone. Scientifically speaking its very hard to maintain. So, i would say this drone can easily do what is advertised in the forests where there is no wifis and giant mobile sim towers.

    •  2 года назад +4

      DJI used to only advertise range capabilities etc. in the FCC (U.S.) system, which does allow for 8-10km range. Whereas the EU has way more stricter guidelines in their CE system, which only allows for around 2-3km range. You can notice that they started to advertise what the range is in FCC, CE etc. for the new Avata drone, because I guess people complained that the way they used to advertise this stuff wasn't quite fair and transparent.

      What the problem is .. because of weak signal I can’t take my mini 3 beyond a small hill when it descends out of direct line of signal . So maybe you don’t need 10 miles but with this which is possible on the North American and Canadian drones FCC , where as we get a weaker signal in Europe . I was really disappointed and if I knew before buying my mini 3 , I may not have bothered . Since it’s no extra distance than the mini 2 .
      Sometimes I’d like to get footage of inaccessible places that the advertised distance is needed to get the drone to these isolated spots . So yes in my view we need a stronger signal .

    • @oscarfellenburg711
      @oscarfellenburg711 2 года назад +2

      I think DJI should make it clear in the advertising that if you fly your mini 3 or any other dji drones with supposed up to 10 miles or what ever , But fly in England and your very lucky to get 1500 m with a useable signal with out lag. Also where I live in on my estate I’m lucky to get just 300 m with all the interference .
      I don’t understand what the different laws are as if you have a spotter you can legally fly as far as you want . Well that’s how I understand it .

    No one really flies that far anyway. I'm not worried, but in the urban scenario I guess flying higher can give you a little bit more range. For wide open spaces I don't really have an answer except "VLOS". The fact that these drones can exceed 2km is already a wonder all its own so I guess I would already be happy with that and not push the "short range" button repeatedly.

    So please be honest folks… It's not a question of "what's enough for me" or "it's boring to fly in one direction". Please take a closer look at your mini packaging, what DJI has printed on it in big letters: 8km CE, 12km FCC.
    Therefore the standard argument of the law-abiding RUclipsrs and DJI-fanboys with the legal situation and the mandatory line of sight is formally correct but basically outrageous in this case: If DJI promises these ranges and advertises this product with these exorbitantly high numbers, then it must at least partially correspond to reality. Like every other drone they released in the past was able to achieve the advertised range and in some cases even exceeded it.
    The Mini 3 has been proven to reach only a tiny fraction of the advertised value. And please: even if you don't fly 8km away, it's completely logical that the signal strength would be much better over short distances if the advertised range would be actually achieved, right?

I love exploring with my mini, never had an issues with the previous versions, and based on those reputations, I bought this one. Brother you're making excuses for this drone, and I'm not sure if it's biased excuses. 10km advertised. Not even close. I am not confident flying this drone even 1km away.

    I totally agree with you about cinematic video's yet it eould be nice to have a bit more range. My proximity to the Canadian rocky mountains makes you realize that distance is relative, big open spaces and distance becomes an issue. While range isn't always important the strength and stability of the signal is so it depends on where and what you like to document in your video.

Farthest I've flown the Mini 3 is 5km over a river over these islands (FCC version) as here in Canada we are allowed with sub 250g drones and great reception. Full bars all the way. Cheers

    Hello, first of all I clarify that I am a follower of your channel and I like your videos. On this occasion, I strongly disagree that it is "boring" to fly in a straight line from one point to another. In any case it is "your personal opinion", it is not a truth to affirm. Personally, I really like the "long range" to take the drone to the limit of its possibilities, but this requires a special technique that very few people manage to master. The "long range" is another category and you can't mix the one that flies over close objects with the one that performs "long range", they are very different techniques. Other concepts are necessary for such practice., therefore, something that has to be planned, studied, understood, known to react in an emergency, etc. cannot be boring (in my humble opinion). Greetings from Buenos Aires, Argentina.

    What's the point of the test if everybody's circumstances are different? What does it matter how far the range is, It's out of sight flying which is illegal? Videos like this just show authorities the average drone guy will not adhere to the rules which F's it up for the rest of us. Nice going. May the authorities find you.

    If the feed on your controller is laggy, I'd imagine the feed that is actually being recorded onto the SD card in the drone is perfectly fine 4k60FPS. So the footage is still usable but operating the drone might have some lag.

    I am lucky to be on FCC and with RC on my M3P I am getting 3-4km range (urban) with still strong signal but for safety reasons I remain in that range as once I pushed it 6km away and nearly did not get it back due to battery depleting very fast.
    I did few range tests but not flying long distances unless taking photos/videos of locations with difficult access.
    I find that by using RC-N1 controller I am getting 10-15% more range.

    I use my drone for different property surveillance. Range is very important. The mini3 was a great disappointment compared to the mini2 in the range department. Have absolutely no issues with range with the mini2 even when I'm flying from inside my house. The mini3 has absolutely no range from inside my house and is completely useless for what I need it for.

      Mini 2 user here, I hacked the drone to FCC mode and can easily go 6-8km and back with a modded battery pack.
      Range will be around 2-3 bars but never a signal loss when I keep pointing the RC to the Drone.

    • @ABurghouts

      I see where you coming form. But for property surveillance there are much better drones than the mini3 though. Mini 3 is mostly for the ease of access due to its light weight what means a lot less restrictions then the heavier drones. Restrictions you don't have if you are flying over private property and/or if you have permission form the property owner you are doing the surveillance for.
      Personally, for surveilance I'd go for the Air2s or Mavic 3

    Apologies if I missed it in the video, but is part of this due to reduced radio power in the non-US models? I'm seeing videos here in the US with people easily reaching the 3 mile, (about 4,800 meters) distance, and I frequently go two miles (about 3200 meters) with few issues.
