Good test. However don't be fooled by the "max distance" you can reach. I lost my Mini 4 PRO in the mountain within about 1500 m distance. The signal was blocked by the mountain "shadow". I went down on the other side and, instead of returning home automatically, the GPS signal was apparently lost as well (deep valley). Then the drone stopped, hovered for a few seconds and started to descent for landing. Fortunately the 360 obstacle avoidance worked and the drone landed without hitting trees or branches but....in a stream (it was a cleared area). Fortunately as well, the last GPS position was recorded and I used the find my drone feature to find it....after a serious hike. DJI analyzed the records and did not find the reason why the RTH did not work. So they replaced it under warranty (drone and battery were dead after staying in the water for about 24 hours). If you wish to fly longer distance, used the FCC version from Drone tweaks but buy as well a PLUS battery (at Drone nerds in the USA) in order to take benefit of the extended signal strenght of the FCC version.
The reason many of us want to know the range is because many things are too far to reach by car or on foot. During my travels, I've come across remote islands, caves high up in mountains, etc. It's nice to get footage of places you can't reach on foot. I've also used it for exploring. During a jet ski trip, I was island hopping. I used the drone to travel to and around the next island north. It was incredible to be able to travel there, get videos, and return. I was able to see shallow waters, rocks, obstructions, etc. Anyway great footage. I'm looking to buy one of my own.
Thanks very much for producing this video Darren. Not boring one little bit! A real confidence builder IMV...and great to see all the RC 2 screen indications as the Mini 4 Pro flys further away from the controller. The sophistication of these DJI drones never ceases to amaze me.
Thanks for making this video. I’ve only flown a few times now and am reluctant to go too far yet but starting to see it’s possible to do. It’s also cold weather so I have to think about battery life. I’m playing it safe while I learn.
I’ve reached 6km distance with the mini 4 pro, with the plus battery. Battery gave out before signal did. RTH no problem. Keep your drone high 100m or more and make sure your in the open preferable on a hill or higher and a clear and I do mean clear clear day

My Mini 4 Pro clipped a small tree branch and fell about 4m into a water fountain stream. It was half submerged in the water for about 15 mins, it had sustained a broken ,or cracked left front arm. When I got it home I blew out the water with an air hose, the battery was ok, It wouldn't start up on its own, only if its connected by the USB cable to initially charge it then I could disconnect the cable . I took it out to test it and everything was good apart from a gimble error message , but since then Its been fine. I'm now a bit less confidant flying over water at least if its near trees.
@DMProductions Darren, thanks again for yet another great video!! I've seen these long distance test videos over the past year, mainly for the Mini 3 Pro, but this one is great for the Mini 4 Pro. I think there's one out for here in the U.S. for Mini 4, by the same content creator. My take is, yeah, they may be boring, but I think the first one I watched I was excited to see that the drone was able to make it back. The creator made it kind of interesting, a little dramatic, although I later tried to figure out how it could be. Maybe his voice, narration, approach or whatever, but it was interesting to me anyway. Yours was nice
Ok, I must be missing something. I got near 10,000 meters on my Mini3 pro over the ocean and might have made it to 10,000 or a little over had I not had become paranoid about return battery power on the longer battery plus. The Mini4 pro specs say it has a range of 20,000 meters. Just needs someone to invent bigger battery to make the round trip. I guess that maybe you don't get as much range over land.
Please let me know differences between CE and FCC versions (have you seen any article stating two versions for real with proof like a model name (Like it was with Mini 1 CE vs. Mini FCC (only 5.8Ghz which I still own here in Bulgaria)) of the Mini 4 Pro, still wondering is there a real physical difference in the CE version in the US for the same strength of the signal, because it looks like when it switches the CE version of your drone into FCC mode, you are getting similar distance to US version of the drone (if there is such difference at all)
In spite of the different environments, it's obvious that there is significantly better signal attenuation and strength there. Wait... this is CE mode? Im watching as I write. THAT is impressive as hell! Another reson to stay in standard mode is speed. DJI calculates the most efficient speeds for longest flight times, which translates to distance. On signal-rich environments, i get roughly 50% more distance from me, measured in a huge circle around me of 12 mile circumference - and the diameter is about 3.8 miles.
My mini 3 stock battery Did a testing on my battery that is 11 months old I went 24000 feet and made it back with 13% battery left and the battery had 45 charges on it The mini 4 pro can do 30,000 feet and back safely Good video thanks for sharing
That isn’t quite right, it is 25 mW under CE which is the same as any other 5.8 GHz transmitter like you would find on other drones, however most people ignore this anyway. With the FCC rules the maximum is 2 W. I got these figures from the spec sheet for the mini 4 pro, it lists its powers in different areas. The legal limit for transmitting on 5.8 GHz in the UK is 25 mW too. However it looks like we may get an increase now with new ofcom regulations if you get an amateur radio license, it may up the limit to 500 mW but we need someone to clarify this.
I manage to get close to 2km in busy full of tress suburb on my new mini 4 pro and i tried the mavic 3 with rc pro and it was pretty much the same. Must be my area cos i was hoping to get a good range distance with the new Occusync 4. Both drones are up to date with the firmware.
Hi, Thanks very much for the video. I am trying out how far can go the same drome with same controller in the city and it loses signal after 1000 meters aprox., may it be because antennas interference? or what can be happening? thanks very much
How much distance can you get is you just flew the drone straight up in the sky from where you are, at what height would it top out, im assuming its less than 2000m like the distance
thats awesome....... ive got 3.5 km on my mini 3 (not pro version ) before i returned due to chickening out.... it would have gone more, and i took off from my work ( industrial zone) and flew to my house before i returned....
Go higher up man! I mostly fly at 500 Meters and go Easley 5 Km away from me than. So 10 Km when RTH again, I have a Mini 3 and a Mini 2SE. Anyway, thanks.for.your info and video. Sincerely, SkyLab.
I got the dji mini 4k not the pro version, i live in a very dense urban area, if i send it to a family members house 1/2 a mile away could it reach without losing connection?
I'm new to drones...is this with the regular battery? it seems to last very long here...I don't get anything close to this with my mini 4 pro...I don't fly it very far or high...the longer capacity batteries are appealing but I want to keep the drone under 249grms
As far as I know the Mini 3 PRO and Mini 4 drain battery faster than the Mini 3. That is why I bought a MINI 3 since I need it to last longer in the air rather than have video quality.
But what about Interference? From the footage it looks like you did the Mini 3 test over habited land, whereas this test is in the open desert without any other signal sources. My only drone is a Mavic Air back from 2017, and it uses a way worse trasmission frequency and standard. As a result I experienced vast differences flying over towns vs. nature: There were times where I could not reach 400 m, and in open desert i flew ~2500 m. I wonder if that is still a concern for a test like this.
i recon this is fuerteventura? I will be there in 2 weeks.. did you fly in the coralejo desert? And did you had any issues or controlguards in the naturepark areas?
I hope you have fulfill rules not like this guy. Bills can be up to 225000€ in Spain. He is flying in airport area and in a natural park. Tourist think that they are untouchable 🤬
Love at 1:06 Saying we have great weather conditions today, but the screen shows Not Good To Fly 🤣😂regardless love your video's, sub'd as of now. My next update next month will be the Mini 4 Pro, currently enjoying the Mini 2 SE but still afraid to loose eye sight with the drone. And think the 4 Pro will give me more confidence to perhaps fly a little futher with obstacle avoidance depending where I'm flying.
@@user-wi7vu5hv8g also worth keeping in mind is that it is an inverse square relationship, so 4x greater power means double the range, so really the FCC version has double the range on the control link and probably less than 3x the range on the video link, not the 4x and 8x greater range that most people would assume.
Just did the same test flying out over Patong bay in Phuket, attempting to reach an ocean liner that was anchored in the bay. 3.8km was my max before I started to get severe signal issues. Reckon flying over water makes a difference?
I think so, Maybe largely due to RC interference. Coincidentally, I also flew my Mini 3 pro about 2.5 km into the bay at Patong before low battery RTH.
Hi - are you able to advise which country you are flying in as the UK has range limitations, and how are you able to fly so far away beyond visual range and avoid the aviation authorities?
Yeah, I'm not too crazy about doing those range tests on my drones, because I know for sure that they can go a long way. Also, it's not exciting to do, or flying to the max height? It's really boring to do. We all know that these drones are extremely great machines, and very capable. I like to fly as close as I can to the ground without hitting it of course, or going under bridges. That's an excellent place to fly Darren. I would love to fly anywhere similar to that. I live in the east coast of the USA in New Jersey, and we don't have anything similar to that. Thanks for sharing my friend, and I'll see you in the next video. 👍👍👍
Mr Raymond, I am completely opposite you. I think it is the greatest thing in the world to fly long distances and see what is going on many miles away. I would love to fly hundreds of miles away if I could or someday even to the moon and back.
I did reach 4.400 meters with the Mini 3 Pro + RC in a rural area in CE mode and a height of 120m. With the Mavic 3 + RC PRO I reached 8.100 meters and turned around because of low battery warning, 10k might be possible under same circumstances.
Are You flying using FCC, in the US? Not the EU and its limits? My experience flying far away with both the Mini 3 pro and the Mavic 3 pro, down to one, or two bars, the signal is completely lost when turning the drone around, aiming home. To avoid RTH kicking in flying backwards until more bars turn on has been used. Why is the drone camera not recording and showing what happen away there?
Nice video! Yes, Occusync 4 on the Mini 4 Pro is a game changer. I am thoroughly impressed with the signal performance. It is night and day when compared with the Mini 3 Pro. You can truly fly with confidence with this setup.
Thanks, Darren, for testing this out and sharing 👍 I think the much better range of the Occusync 4 system is not only based on the external antenna of the new RC2 but also the "old" legs on the front arms returned to the M4p vs. the M3p carrying much better onboard antenna in the copter itself which seems to be very design related. Cheers from Bavaria and have a great weekend, Bernd 🎬
Sorry DM but your Mini 3 Pro range test when done was over buildings that can cause interference.... Yet you do the Mini 4 Pro range test over open land.... What kind of comparison is that????? you should have done test in same area for both drones. PS..... at that distance 5404m you cannot see the drone, so you're breaking rules flying without being able to keep it in sight.... Or am I wrong?????
@@yoshy2628 Rules are rules..... to keep line of site within CAA Pilot regulations of drone or model aircraft. You were quick to say he was in middle of nowhere With this. When he added the Mini 3 Pro range test alongside this.... HE WAS FLYING OVER BUILDINGS, SO.... where is your argument now as rules were broken even MORE with that flight???????
Every time I watch these videos, I think it must be nice to have great landscapes to fly in. For me it's nothing but trees, houses and roads. The only good thing is the National Park and I can't fly there. 😞
Guess I am pretty lucky, in central alberta, have went 5,300 meters at 500 m high (5.3 kms distance) before willingly turning around and coming back (didn't make it back, battery died and had to drive 1 km to go get it lol) with a mavic mini 1. Guessing could have got 6 kms range.
I can make that distance with my Mini 2 regularly in city. I’m really hoping it can double that distance. Also I wonder how they advertise 20km when it positively can’t make that under perfect conditions. Great video though
I did a 4.6 km one way on the first mini( video on my profile), but it was FCC, on CE i could hardly go at 1 km. Looking at these improvements in signal i could certainly say , in the fcc version of mini 4 pro, its a matter of battery not distance anymore. 😂😂😂
I get 8450 meters before i'm forced to RTH with 60% battery on my old Mini 2 SE. I should be able to get it to go about 10000 meters soon with a newer cheap mod.
i got the mini 2 se and farthest i got was 4000ft at the lake. ive seen other vids of people at a lake and go to 10000 feet. i just dont get it. fun to go far but fly somewhere you can go get it if anything happens.
Ok here is the white elephant in the room question.... Can waypoints work if the drone goes beyond connection and will it complete its waypoint flight plan. If the waypoint plan flies from the drone or does it require full connection to the RC? I have been afraid to try, I don't want to lose it. :)
There are 3 settings for waypoint missions on RC signal loss: 1) Return to home 2) Land 3) Continue the mission. You can set it up to continue the mission on signal loss, and set the last waypoint behavior to RTH. So the drone will be able to complete the waypoint flight and RTH, even if disconnected from RC.
Yes please Darren 3x packets please lol. another wasted video. Well not wasted I suppose. It’s really good of you to answer questions on the range. Me. I don’t go out of vlos. Thanks again my friend ❤

@WanderFeetChronicles 120m everywhere else? Wow that pretty low, brought mavic pro when it came, flew up to the clouds.
FCC and CC are gps dependent. It locks and unlocks automatically based on gps.
@@WanderFeetChroniclesyou can declassify it and go above 120m.
@@NildoScoop Can you still trick it to think it's in USA when your not?
Just did the same test flying out over Patong bay in Phuket, attempting to reach an ocean liner that was anchored in the bay. 3.8km was my max before I started to get severe signal issues. Reckon flying over water makes a difference?
I think so, Maybe largely due to RC interference. Coincidentally, I also flew my Mini 3 pro about 2.5 km into the bay at Patong before low battery RTH.
Is this the normal battery or the Flight PLus battery?
Normal
About the same as my DJI mini 2 but mine needs to return instantly due to low battery that’s also with the old controller
Hi - are you able to advise which country you are flying in as the UK has range limitations, and how are you able to fly so far away beyond visual range and avoid the aviation authorities?
wow, is the signal worse than the mavic mini?
@@HouseGuide For that my friend you'll have to be an astronaut, to be able to go to the moon. 😊 😊 😊
Mate, no one cares if you're bored. Stop whinging; both of you.
I did reach 4.400 meters with the Mini 3 Pro + RC in a rural area in CE mode and a height of 120m. With the Mavic 3 + RC PRO I reached 8.100 meters and turned around because of low battery warning, 10k might be possible under same circumstances.
Did you have alot of trees in the way when you done the range tests with the mavic 3 pro? And what controller did you use?
can i buy the DJI RC 2 to use with my DJI Mini 3 Pro and will it increase the distance it will fly?
You cannot use the RC 2 with the mini 3 pro as this uses occusinc 3 and the new 4 pro uses occusinc 4 with the 4 pro
Ngl I'm going to buy this. I just got into drones last year with a budget bugger but I feel ready for an upgrade 😊
Would be a good upgrade!
He's flying the CE (therefore EU) Version. FCC will be even better.
@@benjaminj3934 Thanks for telling! I do have projects like that in my mind....
Mine will only fly about 400meters then is pretty much loses it signal. Turns red. Why is this
That’s interesting because I was able to push my mini 3 pro to 21128 ft. I just got the mini 4 pro can’t wait to test it out
@@NaturMehr mini 3 pro went as far as 11km and returned home. Mini 4 pro doesn't have the juice to come back from that far.
love the vids man...just wanna know you said you always need to fly against the wind....just wonderiong why?
So it doesn’t fight it on the way back and to have enough battery
Yes he’s correct , incase of a low battery you have the wind on your side coming back
@@IlincaDenis ahhh that makes perfect sense...thank you
Sorry DM but your Mini 3 Pro range test when done was over buildings that can cause interference.... Yet you do the Mini 4 Pro range test over open land.... What kind of comparison is that????? you should have done test in same area for both drones.
PS..... at that distance 5404m you cannot see the drone, so you're breaking rules flying without being able to keep it in sight.... Or am I wrong?????
He's technically in the middle of nowhere.
If there are no buildings or people what he's violating?
@@yoshy2628 Rules are rules..... to keep line of site within CAA Pilot regulations of drone or model aircraft.
You were quick to say he was in middle of nowhere With this.
When he added the Mini 3 Pro range test alongside this.... HE WAS FLYING OVER BUILDINGS, SO.... where is your argument now as rules were broken even MORE with that flight???????
"Officer, there it is (pointing at the horizon). Can't you see it?"
@@Klemheist-vf1hx 😁😁
Every time I watch these videos, I think it must be nice to have great landscapes to fly in. For me it's nothing but trees, houses and roads. The only good thing is the National Park and I can't fly there. 😞
Guess I am pretty lucky, in central alberta, have went 5,300 meters at 500 m high (5.3 kms distance) before willingly turning around and coming back (didn't make it back, battery died and had to drive 1 km to go get it lol) with a mavic mini 1. Guessing could have got 6 kms range.
mine do only 1300m-1600m but is not free view like here is this normal?
glad to live in the USA with FCC, where my "much cheaper" mini 3 (standard, not pro) can do 7km there and 7km back without a sweat..:-)
Any idea how high it can go?
500M, then it prevents you flying higher.
Tu devrais prendre de l'altitude pour avoir un meilleur signal
so how far will it fly at an altitude of 500m? 20km?
Now make a video using miles for us Americans 😂
Amazing!! Thx!! ☺
I think mini 2 is best with old software not updated my range is 3km not problem but never upgraded I bought 2021
Amazing demo
Thank you
So a quarter of advertised range?
Why would you do this standing next to power lines
10:31 a fake warning 😂😂
I can make that distance with my Mini 2 regularly in city. I’m really hoping it can double that distance. Also I wonder how they advertise 20km when it positively can’t make that under perfect conditions. Great video though
Great content and info
was that Jerusalem?
so where is that? aussie?
Looking forward to this
hope you like it
I did a 4.6 km one way on the first mini( video on my profile), but it was FCC, on CE i could hardly go at 1 km.
Dame this drone the mini 3 pro would not get past the pier yet the mini 4 pro goes way farer for me even over the town.
i got the mini 2 se and farthest i got was 4000ft at the lake. ive seen other vids of people at a lake and go to 10000 feet. i just dont get it. fun to go far but fly somewhere you can go get it if anything happens.
In Thailand i hit 800m and lose 2 bars and beyond 1-1.2k max i lose signal completely, even though i see 30-32 satellites. Anyone know why ?
RF interference, both natural and man-made.
Literally nothing around me, on the beach heading to sea
but how far well it go and come back in miles
Don't you know Metric?
That’s cool
My DJI fpv was able to get to 4086m till i got to 53% then turned around got back at 6% a little scary 😆
Ok here is the white elephant in the room question.... Can waypoints work if the drone goes beyond connection and will it complete its waypoint flight plan. If the waypoint plan flies from the drone or does it require full connection to the RC? I have been afraid to try, I don't want to lose it. :)
There are 3 settings for waypoint missions on RC signal loss:
1) Return to home
2) Land
3) Continue the mission.
Thanks again my friend ❤
who doesn't like Haribo haha
Is the screen brighter now on the RC2 compared to the RC ? Something I was reading but not sure if true or not
Nope it’s the same
