Thanks so much for the awesome video! Love all your skating tutorials too. I just got my first Bont parkstars and have only briefly tested them on flats and not on the ramps yet. I was just wondering, how loose do you have your trucks at the skatepark? Thanks
Hey Shorty! I've got a pair of Parkstars on the way and am curious about trying grinds. I was hoping to ask: 1. Do you need to limit your toe stop length to prevent the stop from hitting the rail? 2. Do you have a resource for disco block sizing on the tracer plate? The stock sheet doesn't seem to have one. Thank you for putting out really great and helpful content! 😊💜
Thank you for the kind words. Here are my answers to your questions, I hope it helps. 1. Yes I screwed mine all the way up because if I tip my weight too much forward then the toe stop catches. If doing 50/50 grinds I really focus on having my weight in the back of my skates so I don't tip forward. 2. I don't but you can contact Disco on IG at @discotech.skate and he should be able to help you. The blocks I have on my skates now are Bont prototypes that I think should be coming out in a few months.
You have made me interested in bony skates! I would like to understand if you can use the hybrid roller derby skates in a skate park, and what the advantages or disadvantages are between that and the park stars. I’ve found my feet are two different sizes and would like to customize to fit perfectly.
You could use the Bont Hybrid boot at the skate park but a lot of skaters prefer a boot with more ankle support like the Parkstar. Also if you are new to park skating a 23mm heel on the Parkstar boot helps with balance on ramps. For semi-custom boots Bont can make two difference size boots, you will just need to contact info@bont.com to place an order.
Hey, I think I'll be getting the exact same size as you with the tracer plate, but I'm confused about what kind of slide blocks to get. Discoblox clearly fit for you, which is great to hear! What size did you get? (Also, would you recommend the 98 wheel for a beginner? I'm currently on 78s lol, wanting something a bit faster and more agile for the park but not too fast!) P. S. This is the best video I've seen about these, thanks so much!! Are the 6mm laces better than their 8mm ones?
I use to wear the Discoblox but now I'm on a Bont prototype. I'm can't remember what size but I believe there is a Discotrux size chart you can check. You'll find the Tracer plate size on the plate at the heel end. If you are a Bont 3.5 then the plate is a 5.5 78a is an outdoor wheel so yes that will be slow for the skate park. I really like the Street Flow 89a. It's a great inbetween wheel and I love the shape. But anything high 80/ low 90s will be good. It's when you get to the high 90s that you'll be going fast! As for laces. When I first skated on them I was like "yeah, I love these new laces" compared to my other parkstars. However, I just took a ruler to them because I thought both were 6mm as 6mm is stock for the Parkstar boots. My laces in my new boots are 8mm (I must have ordered them 😅) and I love them more. I skate pretty hard so being wider it keeps them even more in place and I don't have to retighten after lots of skating. If you do want to buy Bont products I do have a discount code. Hi! Thanks for your videos. They help me a lot. Now I'm waiting for the Tracer plate to install the Discotrucks. I would like to know if I use the small cushions that come with the Discotrucks , should I cut the kinpings to grind rails? Thank you very much.

So Bont roller skates will most come with boots and plates assembled but you may need to put the bearings into the wheels and then the wheels on the axles of the plate. But that is easy if you have the write tools
@@ShortysSkateSeries Thank you! I ordered a pair of Park Sates and they did arrive fully assembled. I'm going to change the wheels though and I'm getting a tool for that. Thanks for your help. 🛼🥰
Hi just watched your video was very informative and definitely will be recommending it for people wondering about getting Bont skates. I am super keen to get discotrux for my Bonts and rolling with nylon plates just wanted to ask how yours are holding up after skating in them for a while?
They are holding up well so far. I can't feel any flex in the plate but then again I'm not that heavy. But I did do a comparison on the weight difference between the Tracer and Prodigy and it was only 60g per plate, so 120g in total. The Prodigy (nylon) plate will have more flex than a metal plate. You might want to check your kingpin nut. I tighten mine super tight as you don't need a lot of action when skating ramps. Also the Parkstar boot has a lower heel than the Moxi boot so it will change the balance point which might be contributing to feeling unstable.
It might look shorter because I have a 20 deg plate. A lot of skaters to 10 deg plates or oversize their plate for their boot if it's an aggressive set up for more stability.

Does the 23mm heel feel more like a heeled skate or closer to a flat one? I've ordered a standard pair of parkstars and my current pair of skates is just a standard full heel skate (Moxi Panther). I've skated in a flat skate before but I'm curious as to which one these will feel more like.
The truck that comes with the Parkstar is 43mm so I'm not sure how that compares to other brands. The wide Discotrux is 70mm and you can also go super wide Discotrux at 100mm
The Tracer and Prodigy are the same shape just different material so the truck size is the same. I have the Prodigy plate on my set up but I think next time I would get the Tracer as metal is more durable and it's not that much heavier. If you are looking for wide trucks then the Discotrux is a great option at 70mm as it gives you more stability but not too wide that you clip your own wheels.
I think the Tracer is still the better option if you are looking to do aggressive park skating as it will last a lot longer. I did find out the weight of the plates and it wasn't as much as I thought, so I would probably look to order Tracer plates on my next set up. But I have no complaints on the Prodigy plate so far.

Does the 23mm heel feel more like a heeled skate or closer to a flat one? I've ordered a standard pair of parkstars and my current pair of skates is just a standard full heel skate (Moxi Panther). I've skated in a flat skate before but I'm curious as to which one these will feel more like.
If you skate more often on your Moxi boot then it will feel more flat.
Do the parkstars have a wider truck than the average skate?
The truck that comes with the Parkstar is 43mm so I'm not sure how that compares to other brands. The wide Discotrux is 70mm and you can also go super wide Discotrux at 100mm
Hi, what would you suggest the width of truck for a beginner park skater? I have skated for 5 months n just started park skating for a couple of days
And I'm not sure to get tracer or prodigy
The Tracer and Prodigy are the same shape just different material so the truck size is the same. I have the Prodigy plate on my set up but I think next time I would get the Tracer as metal is more durable and it's not that much heavier.
If you are looking for wide trucks then the Discotrux is a great option at 70mm as it gives you more stability but not too wide that you clip your own wheels.
@@ShortysSkateSeries thanks for the detailed reply. Appreciate that
Do you find the Prodigy plate to be just as good as the tracer plate?
I think the Tracer is still the better option if you are looking to do aggressive park skating as it will last a lot longer. I did find out the weight of the plates and it wasn't as much as I thought, so I would probably look to order Tracer plates on my next set up. But I have no complaints on the Prodigy plate so far.
@@ShortysSkateSeries I don’t do any park skating, I ended up deciding to put my Parkstars I just ordered on my extra Avanti Mag plates! I do have a pair of Bonts on a tracer plate and it’s nice! Thank you so much for answering 😊
@@s.b5431 If you don't do park skating then Prodigy or nylons plates are great if you want to reduce the weight. But as I said their isn't much difference in the Prodigy/ Tracer plate. Have fun skating!
My frame and trucks look totally different. There is no nut to attach the wheels. There is no bumper or brake. I am waiting to hear from Bont. Who knew these would be so complex?
Ahh it sounds like you may have ordered a speed plate so it has no toe stop and clip axles?
