I’m glad I’ve found out at 32 when I’m still young

For twenty years I’ve been telling my doctors that I think we’re missing something, that there’s a piece of the puzzle still missing. I’ve tried six different antidepressant medications, I’ve been prescribed Xanax and Ativan. I’ve gone to 5 different therapists, one of them was the sweetest, kindest woman, a phenomenal therapist who I could tell truly wanted to help me but had no idea how to fix me. Eventually, we decided we’d done all we could do and ended our sessions. I have literally told doctors directly to their face that I think ADHD could be a huge culprit only to hear, “yeah, I mean I guess it’s possible you COULD have ADHD…but how’s your diet? What are you eating” As if more broccoli and kale could fix that. And if you looked at my medical charts today ADHD is nowhere to be found on there. It breaks my heart to think I could have been suffering needlessly for the last twenty years. I will definitely be addressing this with my doctor.

Good luck, I hope you get listened to and find some good support if you haven't yet (since writing your comment I mean)! The needless suffering thing is sad, I know what you mean 😔❤️

Yes, this was me writing a paper. I had so many ideas that I could articulate in class, but I couldn't sit still to put on paper. Like I couldn't type as fast as I thought. Caused so much anxiety to sit and write.
However, when I had a timed exam to write a paper in 2 hours, I could suddenly do it, lol. Like, there were no distractions, I could only sit and write.

Depression doesnt have to be secondary, there are a lot of cases, in which there is an interaction between ADHD and Depression
or the diseases are almost entirely interdependent.

That's the most realist explanation that I have heard anyone describe for ADHD with what the first lady said in this video...👀 And it has nothing to do with anxiety or depression!😯

It might additionally cause a real depression or anxiety. But those are so common in people who are neurodivergent and the root cause of it is usually the neurodivergent condition and / or how people treat you for being different.

It definitly becomes a vicious cycle, but ADHD is something chemical in the brain, so a lot of the time the anxiety started due to the effects of executive function disregulation and the effects it is having on your life. So taking antidepressants or anti-anxiety meds can be helpful in slowing down that cycle, but if the force that is DRIVING the cycle is the disregulation, then the disregulation is what truely needs addressed
