- Today we fabricate our own Torque boxes for the Barracuda. A little bit of Kiwi ingenuity! We save a few bucks and don't have to wait weeks for parts.

Subscribed from Uncle Tony's Garage. Good job and good video. Thanks!
Thanks for the sub!
I like your style, no welding gloves, no long sleeves, way to go.
I love his "no big deal" attitude. Most of us would run screaming from a car with structural rust (see also the Mustang), but Kiwi goes about it like it's as simple as changing a spark plug.
Great work, Kiwi!
Thanks man!
Great episode! I know these are a couple years old, but I'm just now watching them.
I have one of those bead rollers and I hated the crank. I've seen people use old steering wheels, but I didn't have one. But I did have some old electrical conduit. I made a hub (retired machinist here) to fit the machine and cut the conduit. I just bent it around by hand mostly and it's not a perfect circle, but it's close enough. I then cut 3 or 4 straight pieces for the spokes and welded it all up. All in about an hour, hour and a half. It made it SO much easier to do bead rolling by myself.
I'll bet it does, what a good idea !! Thanks man!!
I'm sure we have all found patches welded over the holes. As the saying goes rust never stops and it will still keep marching away a case of kicking the can down the road. That horrible feeling of cutting out an old small patch, or perhaps a patch on an older patch ,that has been covered over and you find your back at square one with no footwell to speak of! I like your do it once and do it right approach, the sign of a true master at work.
Thanks man!!
Hi Kiwi! That's going to be a Mad Max car. Thanks for showing your fine work. Every man should have a garage. Inspiration to a lot of people!
Your welcome man and yes it will be a bit Mad Max ish in flat black
what a good idea. and simple enough. thanks
Your most welcome!
You do all the work and Kev tries to take credit for it. Why you keep him on-staff simply escapes me.
I do enjoy watching your work...always enjoy watching a pro do their thing, no matter the profession they practice!
Thanks man!! I just keep Kev on cos the ladies love him.....😄
Groovy
Well thanks!!
Pretty slick fab work kiwi ! 😜
Thank you! Cheers!
Man that sure is nice! Way better than stamped sheet metal too! You make this stuff look so easy... 👍
Thanks man!!
If it's not a "Hot Rod until the Metal Gets Hot"...... "Keep that Metal Hot"
Great video man.
Good point!!😄😎
Kiwi, you got that structure fab work down cold. Well done sir! 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
That car and Ms. Davidson. All that I dreamed of in 7nth grade.
Lol😂🤣. And sad thing thing is you could probably have the car today but wouldn't want Ms Davidson anymore
Best video yet !!!!
Thanks man!!
Good idea on the torque boxes, I'm all about buildin on a Budget!
Thanks man!
Outstanding 👍
Thanks man, it can be tricky finding the balance between being informative and just prattling on ...
@@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 l watched this video twice - the 2nd time l caught myself counting the wrench turns at the bead roller...a stick shift LA engine in an A body is a great performance/handling package (plenty good enough for me) l was just wondering how you were going to hold/steer the car straight up the strip with a punched out six-pack wedge engine - now l know
@@jlletaw1954 I used to count too but I just do it by feel these days
Learned a ton from just the first five minutes.
Must say you are a real pro- make this head scratchin' knuckle bustin' heavy fabricating look FUN and easy- breezy! Good show! Look forward to watching more.
Thanks man!
Proper job!!
Thanks Man
Made it fit like a glove, cheaper, quicker, better!!
Thats the goal !!
Amazing work!!
The simple, methodical way you explain your work is so enjoyable to me. I can't thank Uncle Tony enough for leading me to your channel.
Glad you enjoyed it, welcome aboard!
Nice work Chris 👍
Thanks 👍
Very cool who dosen't like saving money it suprises me sometimes how few people actually take a few minutes to fabricate a part instead of buying something
It's balance. Time vs Dollars vs inclination
Nice one Kiwi. Must have had a few Ozzy Vals in your time. Torque boxed factory from 71 on. Look forward to seeing the rear ones built 👍
Yeah I've had a couple, wish I still them!
sweet as kiwi! from another kiwi with a cuda, RHD tho. keep it coming great tips and ideas!
Thanks! Will do!
Excellent work!!! Definitely will need to strengthen it up with that big block!
Thanks!
Love the channel kiwi fantastic fabrication I hope you don’t mind me giving you a tip but I’m just a dumbass boilermaker but turn your fine settings up 2 and wire speed down a touch it will allow more heat to penetrate into the joint which will a lot stronger and a flatter weld to where it keyholes the material and burns the whole way through. Give it a try mate you won’t be disappointed
That's good advice. It can be tricky to really burn it in when your dealing with 50 year old thinned out metal and cheap Chinese metal......
Truly an artisan of reality, instead of manufacturing drama over waiting for someone else you grab the problem and address it by making your own, well done Kiwi, in true "hot rod" spirit!
Wow, Thanks!
That HSS is way stronger than any sheet metal torque box. Always learning watchin you Kiwi. Gonna be great to watch it fly down the track.😁👍
Thanks 👍
You made that look sooo easy! Maybe Tony would like the old floor pan, he likes holes in everything! I love watching metal fab, learn a lot and would like to have the time to do a little myself.
Glad your enjoying it!
🤣
My only complaint is that it ended. Can't wait for the next one
Thanks man, glad you enjoyed it!
Excellent fabricating skills, that's some really nice upgrade work. A joy to watch.
Thanks man!
Sign of a true professional, willing to sign their name to something. I am picking the builders of the previous Mustangs didn't leave their signatures?
If they did the rust ate it!! But I'd bet not......
Aussie Valiants had that reinforcing,, so did Kiwi ones, or at least they should do.
As for truck engines?? Keep it small block. Will handle a LOT better 340/360 with alloy heads etc to lose some weight and make similar to big block power.
Nice work. After having to do lots of reworking of the repo torque boxes in my 66 mustang, this doesn’t seem like any more work.
And, leaving your “tag” inside is a nice touch. I worked at Cadillac in the 80’s and found little surprises left inside of caddies by assembly staff. Excellent!
The other side should go quicker now I have the shape of that rear brace down. Thanks for watching
Friend bought a new Valaint ute mid 70s,, came with an empty Coke can in each door!
Haven't even made it 2 minutes in, but I can already tell I'm gonna like this longer video. For me, about a 15 minute video is perfect. But feel free to make them a bit longer if you want. I'd watch a live feed of your shop with every bit of free time I have. Love the work. Love the videos. Thanks Kiwi
Thanks, glad your enjoying it!!
Cool. I feel like sub frame connectors are needed as well for a big block making lots of power.
It really should have yes. I have to decide wether to buy them or make them...
MUSTANG MASTER KIWI 😆
Always nice to work on something different!
Thank you
Thanks for watching
God you work fast Kiwi - not like Mrs "It won't heppen overnoight , but it wool heppen!" Rachel Hunter (remember that old 90s shampoo ad on TV?) LOL .. anyway, have you tried those 3M Strippit pads / discs ? They come in red, green and white colours for coarsness and look like those old round hair combs, they look rubbery and I thought they wouldnt do anything when I first was introduced to them, but boy was I wrong! They take the paint and rust off metal like a hot knife thru butter and don't hex up the metal like grinding discs do. Well worth a shot..
I haven't used them but I'll give them a try! Yes I do remember that tv ad. Thanks for reminding me how old I'm getting😂
Why didn't you weld the top or the front brace to the metal at the front of the foot well? Unless you are going to do it from the bottom side to help prevent water penetration. Just wondering looks great and not something I had considered doing to my 64 barracuda but will likely need. My current plan is to in a modern hemi and trans so it will have around 400 hp.
I'll get it from underneath when I weld the Pinch weld at front of the floor pan together. The modern Hemi will be a great swap!!
Love your videos where can I buy a bead roller like yours
My one is Woodward Fabrications brand. Their online
That's to keep it from twisting the chassis?
Exactly!! Helps tie the front chassis rails to the rockers
Where did you get the reproduction floor panels from? Doing a 67 VC V8 here in Aus with no floor.
From memory it was AMD. Classic Industries also have them. halves and full
@@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 Thanks so much mate
Well done 3 months if your lucky to get anything down under in N Z
Ouch, 3 months !
Now that you know how to make those you can make the ones needed to fix the fake Mustang convertible?
Indeed!! I'll just buy em for that

Cool, didn't know those pieces were available to buy, glad you're going to save that one. A second 👍
Almost like you’ve done this before.
LoL a couple of times. Thanks for watching
No heavy metal music??? I'm unsubscribing...immigrant go home!
Lol. And this from an I talian......
🥝'cuda. Boxing 🥊 above your weight grade like a true Tuamanator.🫵🙃
