    Many of the reasons you mentioned for wanting to settle down are the same reasons we decided to settle down in SLP Mexico. It's nice to have a home base and not live out of a backpack and suitcase. I look forward to the next version of the Tao of David. -Marc

    I find it so inspiring that you've decided to move to the country of your family's heritage and get citizenship. I am half Mexican, half Irish, USA-born and raised, and have only been to Mexico a handful of times and also Ireland, and I don't even know Spanish (talk about an identity crisis lol). Watching your videos about Mexico is fascinating and helps me connect back to my heritage. I totally empathize with your feelings about cultural familiarity and that kind of home-sickness that you felt in Mexico. I think it's totally natural to seek a home where you feel that you belong there.
    Anyway I just found your channel and will be watching your content! Your vlog style is so natural and confident (and also funny)!

    • @davidostrowski679
      @davidostrowski679  2 года назад +1

      OMG the identity crisis is real and I can so relate! I picked up my Polish passport this week and I'm like, ok I'm Polish, but I don't speak Polish and I feel like I have no Polish identity. Strange feeling but I guess when you have such a mix like we do it's normal! I even found out last week that my grandfather was actually born in what is now Ukraine!

  • @davidostrowski679
    @davidostrowski679  3 года назад +27

    Yes. I do not want to move to Mexico. I never did. SHOCKED! This was NEVER a 'moving to Mexico' channel. But more importantly, this video isn't really about Mexico. It's about doing what I want which which will ultimately make me happy. Being on the road for 5 years and working for yourself is not easy, no matter what sexy instababes lead you to believe on Instagram. It's hard work!
    One point I didn't mention is that I may be looking for a job in HR in 2022. It's a possibility. Essentially running an online business with multiple incomes from multiple places can be a nightmare in terms of planning and stability. A regular salary again would be a god-send!
    But don't panic, there are still about another 17 MEXICO TRAVEL VIDEOS coming from now until late September!

      I was nodding my head in agreement as you listed the comforts of a stable home (shoes, stuff on the wall, etc) - until you mentioned a cat! (JK) Also, congratulations for being the first person ever to say they actually want to suffer through winter (*who wasn't a skier, hockey player or snowplow driver). We will have to touch bases on that winter thing next March and see how it worked for you. Seriously, there is much to be said about familiarity - getting to know neighbours and local shopkeepers, having the pillow and bedding that works for you and discovering hidden gems. Best wishes!

So, have been resistantly pondering coming to Mexico-did you get vaccinated? Does it feel more open and less masked then it did last time you were there? Have you lost your interest in San Luis Potosi? I want to be in Europe, but pandemic restrictions still have me uncertain. So, will you be flying from Mexico City to Belgrade?

      @@davidostrowski679 Sounds good, I'm seeing that all the RUclips vloggers, who were in Vietnam for years are now being denied their visa renewals. They're all now going to Bali in lockstep because it's not too far, so get ready for another million vloggers in Bali doing the same videos over and over. I wanted to visit Vietnam and Thailand since I liked Thailand when I was there but not in the immediate future if they keep changing the rules and making it more confusing and more difficult to live there longer term. That's why I think Georgia might be cool because I could just go and chill for a year without having to even think about visas.

    Yeah I understand the not feeling connected to the place and you make a great point that most of the youtube expats in Mexico are from the USA and that closesness does make a world of difference in making it way easier to live in Mexico. It ain't hard to get back home to the USA when you need to. The same wouldn't apply to you.

    I get it...as a U.S. born and raised citizen, I would choose to stay in America over any country in Europe, so Mexico for me because we share the same continent. I lived in Hawai'i which is in the U.S. by default but is not "American" and thus I never felt completely at home, although I was welcomed by many of the kind locals. Nothing to see here, it's normal familiarity. To each his own.

    I understand you point of view!, I actually feel the same way, as a Mexican I wouldn't like to live in Europe!, I've been in different countries in Europe and I would be happy visiting again but never for live. I live in Canada and I of course still going to Mexico, planning to live half time and half time in Mexico and Canada. And I kind of will have the same reasons you just mentioned about why I never would like to live in Europe, many of that reasons as you mentioned are just small things, but is true, familiarity it make easy to adapt and feel as a home! :)

Also big things the proximity and easy and fast way to travel between countries, other things like here in Canada I can find Mexican restaurants, food, people and Mexican things that not in Europe, if I still missing things about Mexico here in Canada, I can't imagine if I were living in Europe ..etc, you know what I mean ;)

    Somehow l do not see you living in Mexico after listening to you in your many videos. You basically said that you are European and do not see yourself living in the American continent and l think that is very understandable. But l might add that logistically you are more at center of things in Europe and closer to Asia and Africa. As far as Australia and New Zealland are concerned you are closer in the American continent. Having said this, you are still more centrally in Europe plus as you said Europe is where your roots are but l know that Mexico has a little bit of your heart.

    *That's a shame that you want to see things in the way you see México now, as a two decades traveler myself through Asia, Europe, Australia, North America (including Alaska) Africa, Oceanía, I will not find another place as México, if you want to live somewhere else in Europe why announce it from the top of the roof in a video? it's your channel and video yes! But you make these videos for an audience's consideration, this video sounded like a bit of complaining other than a "thank you México for welcoming me in such way", as a long run traveler yourself, I wonder have you ever encountered such warmth and open welcoming as in México?*

    • @davidostrowski679
      @davidostrowski679  3 года назад +1

      There are plenty of other countries which have the same welcoming nature as Mexico, it sounds like you've been to many too. Mexico isn't alone in that. That is a positive of Mexico. There's always this belief that Mexico is the epitome, it's not for me but it is for some. Overall I just want what's familiar, which I now have in Serbia. The welcoming nature can be exhausting. I can now walk down the street without having to say hello to every single person I meet! Re consideration, absolutely. People should have a realistic view of Mexico to make an informed decision instead of having a false belief thanks to people making out everything in Mexico is perfect because negativity or criticism are dirty words in 2021.
