  • Don’t science my violence.
Research into how police react in force on force training is very important and not at all easy to perform effectively. I applaud force science for putting in the effort, but I caution police leaders and trainers about how they go about using the information.
Don’t let a snake oil salesman start talking about increased fixation quantities, decreased fixation durations, and increases in saccades because people lack tactical training. Or that arbitrarily increasing stress will improve training.
Look at the research for yourself and ask questions. If you don’t understand it ask someone who does. @inextperformance helped me with it.
Let’s start asking for definitions. What is tactical training? How does one demonstrate they’re trained and proficient?
Is it the training or the individuals were selecting that make the difference?

Well said. We need people who are predisposed to be good at the job, get good training AND get real world experience.

Halfway in you say “2600%-2700% of their gaze time”. How can you try and breakdown a “research paper” that uses numerical data that is meaningless. 0-100% is the only left and right limit so to say. We can not quantify things in terms of 4575%. It’s not a thing. Love your videos.
