I’m a professional organizer. When I work with a client I almost always get asked “should I buy bins before you arrive”? To which I say no. We declutter first. Always declutter first. Then we use what you already have on hand for storage. I rarely buy many bins for clients. Most people already have more bins than they need. I always say…you can’t organize clutter. You can only get rid of it. When you’re left with what you need and love then finding storage solutions becomes so much easier. Now we are giving items homes. And when you put the items back in their homes you can maintain the peaceful home of your dreams. I know you’re overwhelmed but there’s calm on the other side. I know personally because I once struggled with clutter too. You got this! I believe in you! ❤

My advice...work on one area at a time. Personally, I would have tidied the bedroom and then unpack bedroom items and placed accordingly. Then the bedroom is done and you can move on to the next room. Keep going, I can see you're doing the best you can. Things will work out . 😊❤

Stack all your unpacked boxes into a neat pile then anything that doesn’t stack sort after you’ve done that it’ll look nicer and 1 box at a time will be easier and less overwhelming ❤❤

Hi Libby! Give yourself GRACE as you declutter and begin a new chapter in your life.
I'm a senior (widowed for 2 years) who has had to learn new ways to organize what I have and control the clutter. I had to give myself Grace and allow time to grieve the last time I moved. AND I PRAYED A LOT!
I thought I had downsized 38 years of stuff when my husband I moved from a 2300 sq ft house on Long Island that had small closets, no basement, a garage full of stuff (lawnmower, BBQ grill, bikes, boogie boards , and a 4 shelf unit for large kitchen items and bins of baking pans, etc.) to a brand new 2300 sq ft condo we had built in Western Michigan. same square footage less rooms but larger rooms, but we had lots of basement storage space and a nice big two car garage. We loved our condo!
When my husband passed away I needed to downsize to a smaller (1658 sq ft, single level) new condo closer to my son, still in Michigan. I had to downsize my possessions again and it was harder this time because there were sentimental things I wasn't ready to part right away. So, I moved boxes of stuff until I was able to again begin donating and decluttering. It gets easier when you realize how freeing it is to be responsible for less stuff. It's been two years since I had to pack up my first condo and I am still decluttering.
My favorite decluttering RUclips channel is Dana K White. She lives in Iowa so you're almost neighbors! Her simple 5 step method would be so helpful for you and she's hilarious!
When I was organizing my first condo bathroom, that had a nice linen closet, I replaced baskets, boxes and fabric bins with clear plastic bins because I could see what I actually had on hand. This made it so much easier to keep my bathroom supplies manageable. When I moved to my second condo there was to linen closet! However, I had a bigger double vanity where I could store all the clear bin. I also started using clear bins in my kitchen cabinets and pantry.
Since you're apartment has a small floor area, try to use as much vertical space for storage. Thrift a couple tall chests of drawers instead of dressers for the bedroom. They're also good as a TV stand with room to store linens and stuff in the living room. Would a floor standing storage rack fit over you toilet? Also, you mentioned there are locked storage areas in the basement. Find out if there is one available for your unit where you can keep storage bins of your baking pans, seasonal clothing ,etc. Use painters tape or masking tape to label bins so you know what is in each bin. Give away clothes your son has outgrown at the change of each season.
Finally, try to only buy food you need for the week because it's easier to store in a mall kitchen. You're doing great!

Just a little advice in case it might work for you...don’t focus on finding or buying storage for your items. Go through the items in the living room & categorize similar items into grouped sections. This way you can then focus on one group at a time. Even using a paper taped to the wall identifying each section can help locate missing items as you go along. Good luck 😉

Take one room at the time, I always do. Finish with the kitchen, then do your kid things and the room and finally do it with the living area, that way you start seen finish and organized, you are not going to have a mess all over. If you find something that doesn’t really use, give it away. Crowded places are not good for you or your kid. You can have a tiny place with just the things you need and being proud of your place and enjoy it, your kids are going to feel confident and happy.

Your himalayan salt holder looks like a tealight holder. When gently heated the salt releases ions to cleanse and deodorise the air. There are also other various health benefits. I have a himalayan salt lamp that does the same thing. I find it helps with my asthma.

To comment on adking for stoage solutions, if you have the space under your bed, consider those thin clear storage totes,
    1. You can see the items in them
    2. You can also label them.
While watching the video, and you showed us Kellys bed and area, will the shelf to the right of his desk fit next to it? Sitting against the wall like the desk?
Ive also seen some nice corner shelves on Amazon. Perhaps one like that will help?

Games: get very large zip lock bags and break down the box cover and place in bag. Then add all the game pieces. I like to put all my small game pieces in the small half sandwich bags. That way you can put all the games in one basket and not have a bunch of big stacks of game boxes.

I've become ruthless and try to live as minimally as possible, to the point that I no longer use under my bed for storage of anything. I have allergies and an air purifier, so I try to keep it so the air can circulate. It's overwhelming trying to figure out space and storage. I think 6 months in you'll be able to see what's necessary and perhaps what more can be stored or gifted. I've come to realise I value space much more than things, but I am 52 now,so I've figured myself out a little better. ❤

Your son's bed area is coming together great! I love your plant stand also! Unpacking is really hard so I think you're right on track. Storage idea: if the outside of your fridge is magnetic there are magnetic shelves you can put on there for pens, pads, spices, odds and ends. You can also get magnetic hooks for the fridge to hang towels, utensils, measuring spoons etc. I hope you get the fridge/freezer situation fixed very soon. Maybe plan some baking activities with your son. He's at a great age to learn that. You could do that once a week or once a month and take turns picking what you'll make. Have the best weekend! Hugs. 😊💐🧡🐦

Command Strip makes shelves and caddies that you can hang up. The caddy might be great for your son around his desk for office supplies and in the bathroom for toiletries. If there's wall space in the pantry closet you could hang the caddy to store spices and small pantry/kitchen items. For in the shower they make a wall and cabinet organizer with water resistant strips. There is a command mirror organizer that is a mirror with a small ledge and hooks that would be great for the kitchen or bedroom. They also make a command key rail to store your keys hanging in a handy spot. I recently ordered an over the door coat hook organizer that can hold 6 hangers with clothes on it behind a door. Great for extra clothes in the bedroom or for coats. For the kitchen you can get storage that hangs over the cabinet door and utilizes storage either in front or behind the cabinet door. Just measure before you buy these to be sure there's room in the cabinet for them. I also bought some metal baskets that hook onto the bottom of a cabinet shelf to make more vertical storage in kitchen cabinets. Can you tell I spend too much time on Amazon? 😁

You might consider putting all the items you unpack in the rooms you intend them to go in in the final organizing. Even if they have to be stacked in boxes in that room. Then you can consider the kind of storage you need to get for each room. You also might be able to get your living room in order faster. Getting your couch will help with putting some of your things away. Good luck, you are doing great!

You’re doing good.. I have a few suggestions.. I would buy a rolling cart with a lid/cutting board on top( I use mine as a pantry) put your coffee maker and other coffee related things on it and that would free up space on the shelf for you to put cookbooks.. I would buy a bottle of Folex(amazon) which is great at getting stains out of carpets… best odor absorbing item is cinnamon sticks ( I buy them in the Mexican isle at the grocery store as it’s cheaper than spice isle).. my biggest tip is to set a timer for 15 or 20 minutes and try to put as much as you can for that long.. give yourself a break and then when you’re ready to tackle it again start again with a timer.. breaking it down to smaller increments makes it less overwhelming

I just don't understand when low budget single parents keep getting animals. The cost of pet food and vet visits are unbelievable. Come on, use your money wisely and don't take on anymore expenses you can't afford.

I was excited to see a new video from you. 🎉 And the floor in the living room is peeking through for everyone to see. It's going to be so good when you can run the sweeper around. And then we can go along with you to pick out a new couch. Love it, i like to furniture shop. Do you have a Habitat Restore in your area? Sometimes they have bargain prices on new or slightly used things. Either way you get to enjoy your new living room. Your kitchen and living room are so light. Makes up for a lot of other things. 💖💖

You are doing a great job. When you get your furniture try to buy sofa with storage space in the seats. You could store blankets, games, out of season shoes, etc.

I highly suggest instead of the couch. You move to the living room and leave your son in the bedroom. This way the apartment can be divided into “two separate rooms” providing more space and privacy for each of you guys. This might help, just a suggestion ❤ I love your videos ❤

Because a puzzle is fun to do many times if you leave a bit of a gap. I've done most of mine more than once or twice.

New sub. Let me start by saying your hair looks fire! 😍 I've been following you for a few now. I just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate you sharing your life and story with us. You see, I myself have OCD, ADD anxiety, and depression and we won't even get into health issues because that's a headache in itself..😮‍💨 lol. Life can be a real donkey butt if you get my drift, lol. Anywho, I just wanted to thank you for being so inspirational. Your videos give me that boost I need to keep me motivated, and your truth has inspired me to be more accepting of what it put right in front of me. I wish you and your little boy the very best. I hope this journey is all you manesfest and hope for. I'm rooting for you. Prayers and Blessings
    Much love, Bjay ❤
