  • Pilates Day is an annual, international, community event celebrated on the first Saturday of May every year. The Pilates Day mission is to foster the public's appreciation and awareness of the Pilates Method through a network of varied, innovative, and high quality grassroots Pilates events accessible and affordable for all.
    To commemorate Pilates Day this year, we have reached deep into our own archives to show you never before seen footage of the first Pilates Anytime class ever filmed, May 5, 1929. We hope that you have a great Pilates Day and that you will join us in honoring Joseph and Clara Pilates and the method they developed that makes all of our lives better.

    Love the way pilates falls under holistic and mind and body studios, when historically there is nothing holistic about pilates

    Isn't this a real video of Joseph Pilates. The credits indicate someone as Joseph Pilates so i'm confused.

      It seems to be a "tribute" video, not original. Those women look modern, not as small as 1920's women, too big built and the hairstyles are wrong.

      I was very confused at first but then I saw the girl in that halter and was like, no way women wore that in 1929.

    Well it's better than nothing I suppose. I find Pilate's to be too obsessed with the core, as if that is the most important thing in fitness.

    • @emilyhoffmannopitypilates

      The whole point of pilates is to align your skeleton for effective and efficient movement and strengthen the deep internal muscles that support the spine, ie; the core. To create and maintain proper alignment of the skeleton for safe, effective and balanced physical functioning, which helps make everything else you do with your body better, be it running, weightlifting, boxing, wrestling; anything. Its about mobility; to support whatever range of motion your joints have. It’s too bad your teacher didn’t articulate this to you.

    • @Hawthornefae
      @Hawthornefae Год назад

      That doesn't invalidate pilates. No one ever said pilates is the only way you should be active.

    • @emilyhoffmannopitypilates
      @emilyhoffmannopitypilates Год назад +2

      @@Hawthornefae it's not the only way to be active, That's not what I'm saying or any reputable Pilates teacher would say. The point of Pilates is to enhance everything else you do with your body be that, running a marathon or carrying a laundry basket. when I began powerlifting I realized that I wouldn't be able to do it if I hadn't been doing Pilates. I had spinal stability, hip mobility, and trunk control. I began training other powerlifters and they all said that Pilates helped with their hip mobility and to brace with their core. Pilates is a complement to everything else you do.
