Hi! Another Project Zomboid Short Story for the channel, hope you like it :) Please consider leaving a like and a comment to know the reaction you had about the video. If you are new to the channel, subscribe to see more content like this. Thanks for watching :)
NPCs would be so interesting if they were like this. Imagine breaking into a barricaded apartment building to find a group of people just like this. A few have already “quit”, and there’s just a couple people left., so you guide them out of the building and to your safe house.
The devs need to take inspiration from these videos for how they want story telling in the world to feel when NPC's get added. Not just be some random janky people have to deal with as a tedious mechanic xD
Man, this was one of the most depressing videos you've ever made. Just like the last one, there's no hope to be found in this one at all, but it makes sense; not everyone is able to push through pain, and in this case it's even more obvious due to the fact that as the video progresses, we saw all of his friends die. Maybe if the woman that loved him stood by his side they could've managed to give eachother hope, but we can't force others to live, their life belongs to them, each knows what they do with it, and some would rather die as humans than be turned into breakfast for the Zeds. Amazing story like always, Werlias!
Hi Migel! You are right, not everyone is able to face situations where they feel "stuck". In this video, they got stuck with few supplies and with no hope of surviving, they either die out of starvation and dehydration, or being eaten by zombies. While everyone decided to escape from the problem, the protagonist held himself and managed to survive a little bit longer with the burden of seeing everyone die, but in the end, when the food and water ran out, he also decided to escape from the problem. But at the end credits, you can see that if he had fought longer, maybe he would have survived. And that's the message of the video, "stay strong, and never give up". Thanks for the comment man!
I think most people forget mental health is a big issue in a survival situation. The will to live can quickly disappear when it seems like there are no solutions to the problems at hand and the return of society seems like something thatll never happen
Man what a crushing ending. Even with such a good luck on their side. Main character and his friends all survive the airborne infection. Thing could have been even more depressing.
The Fact... That it started raining, after he jumped... The Fact that he, may could have survived a bit more, with the water.... Nice touch, very subtle
@@Werlias there's already minor environmental story telling (corpses with bleach near them, gun in hand) but i feel like it has so much more potential, especially once NPCs are released.
Do pardon my language but JESUS FUCKING CHRIST That got a lot more dark and told much deeper of a story than I was expecting with nothing but resident evil 6 sounds and project Zomboid damn
I cannot gather the words on how emotion inducing these stories are.. absolute gold.. keep up the good work mate.. can't want for more amazing stories..
Thanks a lot man! Really glad that this short story videos are being highly appreciated by everyone :) Will do my best to keep bringing this stories and keep improving.
You know, I actually like that a lot of PZ short stories kinda remain true to the game itself with the "This is how they died" theme. It's also a nice change to a lot of other modern stories where there is always a happy end in some way. I mean, happy ends were originally not that common in stories, tragedies were one of the most common story types and it always had to end with the absolute maximum of despair. I like that we can also tell positive stories nowadays, but it's just at the point where you start to watch any movie with the knowledge of "well, whatever happens, at least someone will survive in the end". I even visited a writing course recently and the tutor told us that it's kinda common nowadays to end tragedies more positive, like you just take Aristotles plot structure and add an uptick at the end, because modern stories are supposed to have a hero who overcomes the obstacles in the end. So I'm kinda a fan of tragic stories that actually dare to end like tragedies should end. And there are a lot of people who are sick of zombie stuff, but I think zombie scenarios are actually very useful for exactly this type of true tragedies.
I made up names for each of the characters > Scott, the guy with the white hoodie who jumped off the roof > Vanessa, the girl with the short black hair who slit her wrists > Mason, the guy with the yellowish shirt who shot himself in the head > Trevor, the guy with the baseball cap and glasses who drank bleach > Avery, the girl with the white t-shirt who took suicide pills > Rhona, the girl with the blue t-shirt who also took suicide pills > Will, the guy with the brown leather jacket who was presumably eaten by zombies
Awesome! The names fit the characters quite well. (Vanessa died do to blood loss, you can see the wounds on her wrists and a knife in his hand, so you can image what happened.)
This video is soul crushing save for one detail. Just before our main protag goes home, the desaturated color palette returns to full color. He was lucid and retaking control over a hopeless situation.
Apocalypse...A pure word when the dead walks on earth. Hopes and loved ones are lost... My heart literally felt it and almost cried over the video. It's really beautiful. Bravo! 👏 The more video you make, The better you get, my man
Damn. Harsh truth of what the end of the world would really be like, lotta games and movies make it seem like this action packed insane time but in real life, if something like that happened, I feel like a lot of people would go out like this. Out of food, water, weapons, hope. They'd take matters into their own hands before starving to death. Quite thought provoking TBH
holy shit, man. i have wanted this type of content out of Project Zomboid for going on 10 years now and you're the first one to have really done it. subbed and turned notifications on immediately. i'm about to binge your other ones too. damn this is incredible.
Another masterpiece, again!! When I thought the very first one was depressing, this one "Stuck" was heart-wrenching. I even got teary-eyed watching 2/3rd of the way in. Mr.Werlias you sir are the Shakespeare of Project Zomboid. You just keep topping yourself. 💥🔥❤🔥🔥💥
Dude these are absolutely amazing.. please make more. You should do a story about cops who come across the zombies on a response. I love your storytelling so much.
one thing i love about these stories is that you can easily feel for the main character even though it's very simple, which i find great. pure respect to you man
I sincerely want to tell you that I LOVE your work, you show the world of projected zombie from another perspective through your characters. Keep it up
I think the message is that.. if you're stuck somewhere with limited supplies, it doesn't matter how many people are trying to help, you can only do so much and this sort of situation creates hopelessness.. and without hope, nobody can live for that long.. without hope people will eventually start to kill one another and themselves and the situation will get worse until there's very few if anyone still around.. as we saw in the parts that weren't flashbacks that this guy was the last survivor.. but there was nothing he could do in the end as he was low on water and out of food.. with nobody to socialize with him anymore ruining his mental state.. and without hope.. he too kills himself.. don't get stuck somewhere without hope or a way out if you can help it. I believe that's the message of this short story.
Yes you're right. In a situation where all the hope is lost, the mind tends to crumble to the point where the person takes decisions that can harm one individual and the ones surrounding him. While this type of situations of a zombie apocalipsis are fictional, the message that i try to give with the video, along with phrase of the end credits, is that as all hard it may be, one has to at least have a bit of strengh or hope to face the adversities, you never know when or how the situation can turn around.
What i picked up on after watching this a couple of time is the use of color. When his friend is still alive. The world is vibrant and full of color. While in the present the world is in a gray tone. What the most depressive is the moment when he about to suicide. The world become vibrant again. He's happy...maybe hoping to meet his friends in the afterlife.
The guy with the bat comes back after surviving with help and all there friends are dead, now that would take it another level. but i dont mean to take away what you made here, it is amezing. you deserve more my man!
They needed a leader. Probably wouldn't have amounted to much but if they slowly moved down and took over the lower floors they would have had plenty of food to share. Heck maybe using one of the second floor windows make a rope for supply trips.
I just stumbled on this channel, and these videos are extremely well done. When the NPC update releases, I'd absolutely love it if they were able to use it as a foundation to release a bunch of mini scenarios like this, where you're placed within preset circumstances and get to experience how it plays out. And like, each of them would have small "objectives". For instance, if this was one of the scenarios, the objective could have been to find a way to escape the apartment building and make it to a survivor location.
Hehe yes, the three recent short story videos that i've upload have been dark and depressing. Definitely i'll change the mood for the next one. Thanks for the comment :)
Not going to lie, this left me absolutely speechless. It is unfortunately how a lot of our minds work, on long enough timeline, the survival rate of every person becomes zero. And even if some people don't believe it, we are very much social species and our ability to feel empathy affects us greatly, realizing humanity is lost and you are alone out there with no possibility of it getting better would drive people to depression and to suicidal tendencies very quickly. Heck, I've had a small story play out in my head just recently while idling around and making barricades in PZ. Imagine this, two survivors, man and a woman, the guy is the pragmatic sort, realist, he knows the limits of what he can afford to do, the girl, she is stoic, strong, resilient, cold, calculating and a bit reckless, you would almost say a true badass, a leader. They bump into each other a couple times at the start of the apocalypse and through various events, eventually end up developing an alliance with each other and distrust of other, albeit few, survivors, thanks to few run ins with people turned raiders. They barricade one of the houses in the fields north of West Point and stay there using it as a base of operations, going for loot runs, stashing supplies, securing the perimeter, surviving. They develop a good sense of teamwork over time and you could almost say they thrive. They have food, water, warmth, electricity, even a small garden on the side, on some days they even let loose or a bit of fun, play some music, watch a movie, drink wine or something a bit stronger, they laugh and enjoy themselves as a form of distraction from the grim reality that is surrounding them. They go about their days and weeks, they settle into a routine that works. Until one night, something feels different, the man is humming a small tune in the kitchen as he prepares their dinner much like he's done countless times before. The woman is sat further back in the living room, she is trying various frequencies on the radio to check for military or survivor broadcasts as she sends out their own and repeats a simple message "If you are hearing this message, there are still survivors in the quarantine zone of Knox County..." on and on, she has repeated that same message with little variations thousands of times now. Hour or two every day, for many days. As the evening drudges along the man notices something change with each repeat of her message, slowly, steadily, the mood in their little hideout grows darker, until he hears something he's not heard before, a hint of desperation cracking through "... if you are out there... please... respond..." He turns from his work at that moment and sees her hunched over, head in her hands. He walks over, sinks to her eye level and sees her for the first time broken down in tears, she puts down the headset and forces a thin smile "...I think we are the last ones." The truth finally hitting both of them like a bag of bricks, making both of them truly realize the scale of the apocalypse. Overwhelmed by emotion that night, they decide to not leave for their respective rooms and end up huddling by the fireplace, being possibly the final two who can enjoy the warmth of another person in the world.
Wow, what an amazing story you have described here. Just reading it i've already pictured in my mind how it would look like in Project Zomboid, the characters, the ambience, the scenery. If you don't mind, i would like to make a video in the future about your story, i will make sure to credit you. The videos that i've made so far tend to not have dialogue, but i'm thinking this could be a good story to start implementing voices, or perhaps i could try some other ideas that i've been thinking about to implement dialogue without the use of voices.
@@Werlias Thank you so much, if you wish to spend the time on it, I would love to see how it would turn out. You could get around the dialogue with a little bit of visual story telling, say, showing snippets over the course of the story where she would be sat by a radio and have radio chatter sound effect play in certain parts, only for there eventually to be nothing, just silence or static. There is definitely merit to both dialogue and visual story telling.
Oh fuck man this breaks my heart. I don’t know how reality could be any different if there WERE a real zombie apocalypse 😢 a lot more people than we’d expect would meet the same scenario and unfortunately, the same fate
Gran trabajo.
I appreciate your work, mate. You make some very good videos, i really feel despair of those people and it makes me want to play this game again. Thank you!
the quality of these are great! i also like how you use color with the flashbacks being colorful and the now being more black and white. probably one of your best
Thanks man! At first the story was going to be like that, a man that got stuck in his apartment, and all the events that would happen on each day. But while working on the video, i decided to make it as it is now, perhaps that's why it has a little recemblance to the movide.
Pretty heavy but true. Why suffer so far, only just to end it now. Powerful way to show Hopelessness. (please don't take this serious, this is way to understand and express the story this person trying to tell). Good story-telling.
Just found your channel. Nice Vids. Good editing. : ) I made a few Zomboid story vids a while back, but youtube will not suggest them to anyone... : ( Glad to see others having some success. : )
I always wondered the culture of the people in project zomboid, they live in Kentucky 1993 mostly in a rural area in a context, a specific place in time, with events before the infection that conditioned their beliefs and society. What was happening in Kentucky in July, 1993?
Thanks man! Yeah you may got a point on that, perhaps it didn't make sense with the absence of more dialogue. But what a tried to tell on that part is that he sacrificed himself to make some time for the others while they barricade. Thanks for the feedback :)

As the evening drudges along the man notices something change with each repeat of her message, slowly, steadily, the mood in their little hideout grows darker, until he hears something he's not heard before, a hint of desperation cracking through "... if you are out there... please... respond..."
He turns from his work at that moment and sees her hunched over, head in her hands.
Thanks for the reply!
And yes, that's one way to do it, i think it's the best approach if i want to do it without dialogue. Thanks for the idea!
People like you deserve only the best rating
Thanks a lot man!
I'm a newer fan of these short stories and they're really cool. thanks for making these!
For some reason this reminded me of "The last person in Hong Kong" from I am legend.
Oh fuck man this breaks my heart. I don’t know how reality could be any different if there WERE a real zombie apocalypse 😢 a lot more people than we’d expect would meet the same scenario and unfortunately, the same fate
Excellent story with tragic end, but beautiful message! Bravo
those shorts are soo good.
more than a story its just a man keep having flashbacks
Stuck - A Project Zomboid Flashback :v
there is one word to potrait this beside "stuck" it's "Pain"
This hit me hard. Very good job !
Pobrecito Leon
Too bad he can't continue the Redfield bloodline.
bro predicted one direction
Gran trabajo.
I appreciate your work, mate. You make some very good videos, i really feel despair of those people and it makes me want to play this game again. Thank you!
Didn’t think people could make videos like this for PZ. I guess where there’s a vision there’s a way. Great job man easy like and sub keep it up.
Thanks a lot and welcome to the channel!
the quality of these are great! i also like how you use color with the flashbacks being colorful and the now being more black and white. probably one of your best
Thanks a lot man! Glad that you notice it :)
And also you can see the color of the flashbacks getting toned down through the video.
Really Impressive stuff here! Reminds me of the Korean zombie movie Call Alive trap in an apartment
Thanks man! At first the story was going to be like that, a man that got stuck in his apartment, and all the events that would happen on each day. But while working on the video, i decided to make it as it is now, perhaps that's why it has a little recemblance to the movide.
tough, nice vid. i felt it
The one with the grey hoodie looks A LOT like Leon S. Kennedy
Great story telling and editing.
Pretty heavy but true. Why suffer so far, only just to end it now. Powerful way to show Hopelessness. (please don't take this serious, this is way to understand and express the story this person trying to tell). Good story-telling.
Great work, as always!
Getting more and more impressive.
I will try to keep improving more! Thanks for the comment :)
DOOR STUCK! DOOOR STUCK!
Just found your channel. Nice Vids. Good editing. : )
I made a few Zomboid story vids a while back, but youtube will not suggest them to anyone... : (
Glad to see others having some success. : )
I always wondered the culture of the people in project zomboid, they live in Kentucky 1993 mostly in a rural area in a context, a specific place in time, with events before the infection that conditioned their beliefs and society.
What was happening in Kentucky in July, 1993?
Video was good. Only part that didn’t make sense was when the guy with the shotgun decided to sacrifice himself for no reason
Thanks man! Yeah you may got a point on that, perhaps it didn't make sense with the absence of more dialogue. But what a tried to tell on that part is that he sacrificed himself to make some time for the others while they barricade.
Thanks for the feedback :)
