Björk is one of Maria's references.
BTW, the three main members of Heilung are María Franz from Norway, Christopher Juul from Denmark, and Kai Uwe Faust from German. They represents differents aspects of the mystical world: Christopher represents the common man, Maria represents the goddess, and Kai represents a shaman, the bridge between the mundane and the divine world. I really love what they do!

The chanting at the end is basically a mantra.. they are saying Uuodan which is old German for Wodan/Odhinn/Wotan. The protection spells of the verses are found in the Havamal. There are protection incantations for blunting enemy swords and axes in battle and ones for calming seas for sailing and ones for guidance and help. The runes yee shall know .. as they say 🙂

At the 7:54 mark when you said there's a swirly effect going on in the background. If you go to the 7:11 mark of the original video you were watching that swirly sound is coming from that vocalist. Its very subtle throughout the video but as the song goes on it ever so slightly get louder and louder. Actually all throughout the entire performance of that song he alone was vocalizing that sound. It was so unique. 😍

You were asking where a band like this starts. This recorded performance at Castlefest was their first live ritual.

Still lots of Pagan & Medieval Fayres & Festivals. Full moons & campfires.
We used to have a yearly joust at Berkely Castle. Many festivals have an unsigned stage where bands can play.
I joke with my kids about Eavis/ Glasto-fest giving the pyramid stage to Heilung lol. ( u know they're scraping the bottom of the barrel when elton john is their big headliner...)

Ok now you guys have to do the last song of the Lifa concert it is right after Othan- Hamrer Hippyer it's one of my personal favourites 😊
They way they made this show if you watch othan and then Hamrer Hippyer, in the start of the last song you still hear the echoes of Othan

I can totally second the Björk comparison. In fact, this is the way I got to Heilung...Listening to some old and newer Björk stuff.. all of a sudden there is Heilung - Krigsgaldr in my sugesstion. As the pic looked intriguing, I gave it a try. The first 1 .. 2 minutes I was not sure why it was recommended .. but after 20 secs of Marias singing paired with the music I suddenly totally knew why YT was leading me that way 🙂
So maybe check "Krigsgaldr" or "In Maidjan" ... before checking "Hamriyer Hippyer". The latter is a good piece for sure... but as it is the last part of the ritual, it might be good to digest some more of their music first. The last piece is somewhat repetitive in the first third. If you have the rest of the ritual behind you, you surely get into a trance-state. If you listen to it as your introduction to Heilung, you will probably find it a bit annoying.
