Imagine your fresh in the roman army, stories among soldiers are going around about the barbaric, wild and animalistic people in the north. Everybody has huge respect for them. They are cruel, strong and passionate. Then your first day on the front and you hear something like that, including animal noises and almost magical chanting. They are getting "transformed" because of the spirit, turning into nothing more than wild animals, purely driven by fear and hate. It takes alot to not run away because you already know you lost lol.

she's not a princess she's a shaman or seer and she's blessing the warriors before they go to battle to protect them and they put up their shields to protect her in return. In the north european cultures (that you know as vikings) female seers had a very important role they were respected and feared.
The " vikings" were Germanic. That whole northern region, Scandinavia, Netherlands, Germany, and many other modern nations were seeded with germanic peoples. The word viking is misapplied. It's what they did.
