Was there ever a more fly girl group than First Choice? Their name was no lie, and Rochelle Fleming had the Voice of Life. This song is damn near half a century old, and it could still make the dearly departed rise from their graves to shake their asses. Soul Train in the Seventies is still something beautiful to behold.
Rochelle Fleming is my all time favourite vocalist, no one comes close to her. She hits all the notes with very little effort. Her voice is unique. It would be a dream come true to meet her and chat about her career. THE BEST EVER
This is one of my favorite groups of the 70's, they were underrated, but they were talented, their voices were great, and their songs were also first class songs. This was one of the many favorites of them.
I'm not ashamed to admit I'm a sucker for anything with a conga beat...Armed And Extremely Dangerous from disco girl group First Choice was an extremely danceable hit song back in its day...and still sounds just as good (if not better) 43 years later......
If I'm not mistaken, the congas were played by the LEGENDARY Larry Washington, who played on countless Philadelphia classics. (And if I'm wrong, shout out to Larry Washington in Heaven anyway because he deserves it!)
Great song, along with their other hits!! So girls if you see him, you might think that you need him, he might look like the average guy but he’s wanted by the FBI😊 A classic!!!
Turning 20 in March 2019 I wish I was able to dance to these back I'm the 70s when no one took things so seriously and people seemed to just enjoy themselves
Yes! - It was a wonderful time filled with what felt like racial peace, every color was represented on the dance floor, it felt like a “love in”… Yes, there were lots of drugs, and we had our own issues, but the love of disco brought us together to release the tension of the day.
The energy and the drama was so awesome -- fun drama, not manufactured crap like we have today -- The moment you stepped into the club and heard this blaring you ran to the floor to rock out. The longer version of this includes a really good instrumental section!
I first heard this at the Deja Vu in Indianapolis in around 1971. I didn't know how to dance yet, was about 20, but the other dancers, a great mix of black men and women plus some white gay college boys like me, welcomed me, taught me how to move on the floor, and I was hooked on disco before it was even a national craze in the mid to late '70s. My favorite cutes included this one, "Love's Theme", Teddy Pendergrass's "Bad Luck" and "I Don't Love You Anymore", "I Like What I Like", "Shining Star", Barry White tracks, and Eddie Kendrick's "Girl, You Need a Change of Mind". The music was blazing! This group did a REALLY HOT version of Al Green's "Love and Happiness".
I love this song, have it on vinyl. Good to watch the video - the dancers are way better than the ones from the same time who are on old TOTP shows- they just shuffle around!
When Leon Huff and Kenny Gamble left Motown as writers they wanted to create their own version of the gold standard of Diana Ross & The Supremes. They produced for First Choice and The Three Degrees. All these females put in their talent and work with phenomenal art.
I have loved First Choice since "Armed and Extremely Dangerous" when I heard it on an old K-tel record my parents had in the'70s. I agree they very underrated. I think they could've given The Three Degrees a good run for their money.
Fantastic! I moved to London from darkest deepest Northumberland in 74 and I was introduced to the sound of First Choice with this and The Player. The music is soulful and the harmonies spot on. I still put The Player album on at least once a month and do the housework to it. Hits the spot each time. Marvellous!
A fitting tribute to the main man on the big screen at that time - 1973, "Jim Kelly!" A four time Grand National Champion and the 1971 International Karate Champion."
Rochelle Fleming, Annette Guest and Joyce Jones, by 1977, Jones left and Ursula Herring joined. Herring left by 1979 and Debbie Martin joined. (Source: Joel Whtburn's Top Pop Singles, not Wikipedia)
One of my two favorite pre-90s girl groups. Rochelle was straight fire with a very distinctive voice. They all sounded fabulous together and put on a great show!
The great, great Earl Young on the kit. Can't say he was the inventor of the 4 on the floor "disco beat" but nobody did it better, that's for sure. And his cymbal runs are unparalleled.
This song just popped into my mind today and I looked it up and here it is...Have not heard this in Ages...what a great song from those wonderful days that I miss...I really miss the old days and those great radio stations back then...fun times
My brother bought this when it came out and I've got it ha,"Smarty pants" on the flip side. My sister just passed on the 19/1. Smarty pants is one of her songs to be played😢.
I thought this track was amazing and still do ! I was 15 in 1973 grateful Noreen it got me through difficult times! God Bless soul music especially black soul i love from white Noreen who wont turn grey very easily!
I'm so sad a friend told me that Don had committed suicide and I didn't believe it but It's true and I can only help but think he is in a better place. He changed our lives I'm 54 and I love this decade of Soul Train Thank you Don you made it a better world and I love you for it
FIERCE SONG WITH A GREAT TITLE. REALLY CAPTURED THE POWERFUL OUTSPOKEN VIBRANT ERA N CULTURE OF THE EARLY 70s. DUNNO WHAT THE TRUE ESSENCE OR "MAGIC" WUZ WHICH MADE THAT PERIOD SO MUCH HAPPIER SIMPLER N MORE "UNITED". SING ON SOUL SISTAS ;)
A fantastic early 70s Philly sound recording produced by Thom Bell that was a UK Top 20 hit. Sadly it has almost been forgotten rarely getting any airplay on oldies stations.
This was NOT produced by Thom Bell. Do you get your kicks running around the Internet telling lies? This is produced by Stan Watson and Norman Harris. With most of MFSB playing.

I liked/like the Philadelphia Sound dominant early disco music.
Love this song, their voices are very powerful. This was one of their biggest hit.
One of my all-time favorite but underrated groups of the disco era! They did songs that are still staples in the clubs even today

I miss the 70's when there was good R&B music. I had just graduated from high school in 1973 when this song first came out.
Can’t believe I’ve found this song!!! I’ve been looking for it for 48 years!! Can’t explain how happy and fulfilled I’m feeling right now!!!
I’m actually super happy for you in this crazy world we need happiness as much as possible.
Great song, along with their other hits!! So girls if you see him, you might think that you need him, he might look like the average guy but he’s wanted by the FBI😊 A classic!!!
That great 70s sound... Philly soul 👍🏽
Turning 20 in March 2019 I wish I was able to dance to these back I'm the 70s when no one took things so seriously and people seemed to just enjoy themselves
Things were still serious back then thts wht we used to distract us from it

Tremendous talents - the lead singer nails it. Fabulousness.

Heck ya! They loved us as much as we loved them! Always concerts, even on pbs TV, not just roll out recording,
Got the album!
This was right early disco 73.disco was happening underground before it hit the charts, wow!!

That album was called Fantastic by K-Tell, in 1973,I also discovered that song because of it.
Still jamming this in 2022!!! Love the old school music. These ladies are talking about the same things going on today!
