I just stumbled upon your video here.. Always great to see someone new join this AMAZING world!
Dumbledore along with Harry of course were my fav characters as well! Amazing and complex character Dumbledore. And Harry the bravest man ever!
I'm not sure if you're even gonna read this LOONG comment it's been a year LOL
But I wanted to answer your questions! I'm not sure you got them answered or figured out or not but oh well here I am..
    19:40
Well Rowling already clarified all of that.. actually in my opinion after my LOOOONG years till now of obsession over this world I'm pretty sure I know my stuff PRETTY WELL LOL
SO! About George.. I'm sure the only things she said was:
Well how do you think a person lives without his other half? Fred was George's soulmate in the not romantic sense yk like his whole life so it was pretty awful he never fully recovers she literally said..
about his life; he supposedly married a fellow classmate don't know if you remember her; Angelina Johnson and had kids the eldest is "Fred" 😢 while continuing to run their joke shop with Ron joining later on!
    19:45
Teddy Lupin had a wonderful upbringing -well as it could get as an orphan.. - living between first, his maternal grandparents Mr Tedd Tonks and his wife Andromeda the better sister of the 3 Black sisters "Andromeda, Narcissa and Bellatrix Black"
And then later in his life as you read he visited then started to stay a lot with his godfather Harry and his family.
AND MUCH later on in life supposedly got together with Bill Weasley and Fleur's eldest daughter Victoire! It was hinted in the 19 years later part that he was dating her.
    20:00
    Well the most important were:
The Weasley family kept expanding on and on so what do you expect it was warmer than ever in the old couple's house with all the grandkids! only that was said.
Harry and Ron never finished their last year they had still after the battle of Hogwarts and instantly became qualified Aurors for a while, then Ron shifted to run the joke shop with George and Harry then became head of Magical Law Enforcement at the Ministry of Magic.
Hermione finished her last year! Typical Hermione!
Then worked for the Ministry first in Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures department fighting still for creatures like house elves, then deputy head of the department of Magical Law Enforcement working directly with the Minister for Magic at the time, Kingsley Shacklebolt if you remember him "was in the order and was the black tall guy in the movies" to get rid of old laws that favored pure-blood wizards and witches.
THEN she became Minister of Magic herself!
Ginny went pro palying quidditch for the all-female Quidditch team Holyhead Harpies then she retired while celebrated and became senior Quidditch correspondent for the Daily Prophet.
Neville became a herbology professor as you read in the epilogue and married fellow classmate the Hufflepuff Hannah Apott.
Luna very much became just like Newt Scamander if you're familiar with fantastic beasts; just travelling about discovering creatures and adventures basically a naturalist and AS WELL married Newt's grandson Rolf Scamander.
And I believe these were the important "new generation" of the order of the phoenix and the Dumbledore's army old members!
Malfoy was discussed in the epilogue and there's no much interesting on him just keeping to himself just that his wife and only son's mother died very young.
I also don't think that he has that potential to have the enemy to friend/hero ark he was just raised FAR away from ever finding that path truly but he just really did nothing bad after the battle of Hogwarts.
    I don't believe I forgot anyone important!
Oh and 25:04 LOL Well DUH yeah! But it has a bit of a story..
See Arther was fascinated with muggles as yk so the car wasn't a first!
He basically had A LOT of muggle normal stuff that he collects here and there from his job escapades and THEN he brings them home and starts experimenting with them using tricks and enchantments and the car was just an experimenting gone FAIRLY very right! that Molly didn't hate very much!
She used to fight with him A LOT because of the random things he brings home and modify LOL.

Haha yes it's been a year but I see your comment! Thank you so much for your detailed response!! Love this! I'm not sure if you've seen, but we have a "Podcast within a podcast" called Potter Watch (We have a playlist for it on our channel) where we're going book by book and movie by movie, and our co-host Sam is a first time reader! She's really enjoying it! When we get to the end of deathly hallows I'll read this whole comment on the show to tie a nice bow on things!
I love all these little details. The one thing that hasn't quite sat well with me is Harry joining the ministry, even if it's changed. I think a much better career path for him would've been the DatDA teacher. And Malfoy... man I dunno I just wish he had gotten a true redemption arc, he could've been such a cool and complex character, and we need a good Slytherin! (I'm Slytherin haha). I haven't seen the Fantastic Beasts movies yet but I do know of Newt, that's so cool to hear that Luna and her husband took up his mantle!!! Also so great to hear about Ron joining the joke shop that warms my heart so much, I need a side story about it!!! She really needs to do sequel books (or prequels with the Marauders haha)
But really, thank you so much for all these details, this is perfect. If you'd ever like to hop on the show and chat Harry Potter with us; reach out on Twitter or email! Fantasyfilespodcast@gmail.com, I'll pin this comment so I can find it later haha thanks!!

Glad you loved it so much! I grew up with the books as you described and it WAS a magical thing. I love fantasy and it looks like our tastes are very similar, but nothing can really match HP for me because the nostalgia is so immense. However, you are absolutely right the nostalgia is not necessary. It's an incredibly well-written, classic story for all ages (and for the ages). I re-listen to these audiobooks more than any other, it is pure comfort, despite all the murder and torture and villainy lol.

While many fans also think Draco should've gotten a "proper" redemption, I find his ending pretty realistic for the type of person he represents. He was just never meant to be the "enemy-to-hero" type of character- Regulus and Snape were created for that role. There is a lot of parallelism in the series and Draco's character serves that purpose. Just as Harry is the foil to Voldemort and an alternate version of James, Draco is the foil to Ron and an alternate version of Dudley. Harry is James without his arrogance and pride from his popularity. Dudley is a Draco who grew out of his parents' influence naturally and actively tries to get on good terms with Harry.
Yes Draco is quite a flat character for 5 books, but he wasn't evil without a purpose. He and Dudley were kids who came from a family that loved and spoiled them, so naturally they took on their parents' ideology. A lot of Draco fans (mainly fanon and movie Draco fans) popularized the "he and his mother were abused by his father" narrative, to give him an tragic backstory to explain why he's bad. In order to turn him complex and grey character, they ended up assigning Snape's role to Draco once again, while destroying the remaining good of his family in canon. HP's most important theme is love, especially parental love, and that is reflected in many ways. The 1 positive trait that the Malfoys have is being a loving family. It is sprinkled throughout the books and was more highlighted in Deathly Hallows. Draco is always defensive over his parents, and they would also defy Voldemort for the sake of their son.
The Malfoys and the Dursleys are part of how the narrative shows the importance of love. Even bad people can turn out not-as-messed-up if they had gotten love. Rowling said that Voldemort would've turned out differently had he been raised by his mother. Umbridge hated her mother. Snape grew up with an abusive father and became a terrible person, but his genuine love for Lily was what's anchoring him on the good side. And though Harry suffered a worse childhood than Voldemort as an orphan, Lily sacrificed her life for Harry with a powerful love charm, while Merope gave up on her life.

You're so right about Draco. Nowadays everything is trope driven in part because so many authors are trying to crack the code for the feelings that Harry Potter gave us. But they never do it right.

    • @sarah4hp
      @sarah4hp 5 месяцев назад +1

LMAO at your take on the Malfoys as a loving family! Narcisa was undoubtedly a loving mother, and did a lot, but Lucius was DEFINITELY an abusive father. The way he mocks and humiliates his son for not getting better grades than a “mudblood”, saying that maybe a thief or a plunderer is indeed the height of what he will be able to achieve if he doesn’t improve etc. says it all. As does the fact that he puts the pressure of restoring the family name and standing with Voldemort by giving up his former classmates to torture and murder. He loves his son mainly as a continuation of the Malloy legacy and a reflection of himself, and gets nasty and abusive when Draco fails to live up to his expectations and standards.
Now, I would definitely like to think that after he gets to feel the consequences of his choice to follow Voldemort, and fully gets humiliated and sees his power and influence disappear while he is powerless to protect his son and his wife from being abused and terrorised by the monster he brought into their lives he might have become less arrogant, haughty and convinced of his own superiority and thusly been less harsh and critical of Draco, but yeah… that still wouldn’t erase the childhood Draco had, nor that Lucius had previously been abusive, at the very least verbally and emotionally.

There is nothing wild about this. I started reading it at 55 and others have been older still. I, myself, had avoided it because it was popular, but also because the late great Sir Terry Pratchett appeared critical and he is my favourite author. However, I can certainly understand the effect on you. For me it helped open a Pandora's Box of issues due to the parallels in my own life - including evil teachers. While I felt the same as you clearly feel now, the more i read the more annoyed I became with some of them. This speaks to the skill with which they are drawn. You may find that your feelings will develop as you re-read multiple times as I have. What I like most about the series is its multiple layers - far more than could be really understood by its stated demographic, I feel. I am still discovering more as I read and read and re-read; I hope you will, also.

Really glad you enjoyed the series. My favorite to this day as a fantasy reader. A couple comments-
The best and the worst thing about the series is that it leaves you wanting more. It’s so easy after wrapping up the series to get caught in rereading books like you said, just to try and relive some of your favorite moments. I recommend reading through some of the secondary materials JK put out after the series like the Hogwarts Textbooks, (avoid The Cursed Child) just because they give you a familiar taste of the world, and are some good short reads. Also, while JK said she would not be adding to the series, she has continued to add to the lore on her blog on Pottermore. They are also good reads, that provide great context to some characters and history that you may be longing for.
I love your picks for favorite books. The last two in the series are the best, although some of the darkest. It is JK at her best, and you really feel to have matured with Harry and his arc while reading those books. I feel most Potter fans hold Prisoner of Azkaban as their favorite, simply because it is a masterful mix of the brightest and the darkest in the series. The Order of the Phoenix is a tough read. It’s very good, no doubt, but it seems more unnecessarily drawn out than the others. JK has said herself, that looking back she wishes she would have cut more material from that book.
I feel, out of all the post read reviews of the books, yours captures the feeling of the series the best. The emotion and attachment that the characters seem to draw out of you is unlike what I’ve experienced in many series. Jo’s writing is so descriptive that it allows you to put yourself in the shoes of each key character as the action happens. It allows you to make educated guesses about where the story is going. You get some right, which is why you get so surprised when you’re wrong, and the plot twists occur. It keeps you glued to every page, hanging on every word.
I’m currently reading the series again for maybe the third time. This time, with my wife for her first read through. For us Potter fans, since we can’t read The story for the first time again, the next best thing is watching someone experience the magic for the first time. Sometimes it’s hard to get people into the series, but once they give it a chance, they are always hooked.
Thanks for the review! Happy page turning.

You can see the comments for the typical commentary I was talking about - I remember as it was coming out I was a very early reader in the UK after my sister randomly brought it the second one at a school book fair, when the hype was only just starting really, so I was v young but kinda able to see the phenomenon grow. Rowling didnt have connections so wasnt in the know among literary critics who had a much larger voice at the time - you can see in the vid theyre dicussing the fourth book and by that time it was huge and still being so snobby about it. There was such a huge pushback of HP by critics and literary elites as a danger of diluting kids minds and not being intelligent enough (it wasnt compared to other fantasy childrens books) , but it was shortsighted because it was that very ease that statistically got a generation of kids into reading. The Harry Potter hype uniquely built up originally in libraries by children requesting the books, and librarians had never seen anything like it.

Just for anyone who may not know, Rowling is actually pronounced like row row row your boat :) I'm so glad you enjoyed this series! Man do I understand what you meant by wanting to start the series all over again. I've read many classics, (most recently I read LoTR which I enjoyed) and NOTHING has captured my heart like Harry Potter. I always feel so completely pulled in by the magic of it all and each time I finish the series I feel like I'm mourning a friend. I've read it once a year the last few years, haha. I've recently begun reading it again. I've actually been trying to branch out and find other fantasy series (hence LoTR) but the big issue I'm having is that SO MANY OF THEM are basically just romance's disguised as fantasy and that's not what I want. I want to read a fantasy series, not a romance. I don't mind the romance in HP because it's like a side character. It's not the main plot. If anyone has suggestions, please let me know. I've read Shadow and Bone, tried reading the A Court of Thorns and Roses books (too graphically violent for me and focuses too much on romance) I started reading The Crescent City, and am currently reading The Cruel Prince. Nothing comes even close to HP. Help! Lol

It sounds goofy, but it's pretty serious most of the time (with a good dose of humor throughout). Jim Butcher (The author) is clearly a fan of Harry Potter and makes many references to the series and his magic system is like a more evolved version of the HP magic system, you can definitely see HP influences in the Dresden Files

You are so right and yet thousands of people have fixed their lips to say "So and so story is like Harry Potter" and it's always a lie. And half the time they are just guessing at why we love Harry Potter, and often the things we love about it can't be replicated or can be replicated but aren't because of the way the publishing industry works these days for instance, you could right a fantasy book say it's for children, say it has magic say it has witches and even a school and it still won't be Harry Potter and it certainly won't do what Harry Potter did/does.

The thing people always get wrong especially people who are trying to replicate Rowling's success is that she never wrote the books to be for children she just told the story that she wanted to tell which is why it can be enjoyed by people of all ages.

There is actually a film series called Fantastic Beasts that takes place in this universe’s 1920s, and it’s written by JK Rowling! Its second and third movies are not really good but I LOVED the first movie, and the other movies have some enjoyable things in them too. They really expend the world, for example first movie takes place in US and second movie is in France. Their main character is a magizoologist called Newt Scamander (You can see him in the first book on the book list that Hogwarts sends Harry, he is the author of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them) and he is one of my favourite characters in HP series!

Your story is as fascinating as the HARRY POTTER series itself! Just one point of fact, if I may:
    J. K. Rowling pronounces her surname to rhyme with “bowling”- and NOT to rhyme with “howling,” as you’d wrongly guessed.

My personal ranking from the weakest to the best book with explanations:
    7. Chamber of Secrets - in my opinion the weakest volume with a rather average plot - it didn't really draw me in.
    6. Half-Blood Prince - too much naive love story in this book. I was already 18 then and all these teenage love stories irritated me. It has great storyline of memories about Voldemort and the brilliant ending - starting with the expedition to the cave it really becomes a masterpiece. However, neither the love story, nor the storyline of obtaining memories from Slughorn, nor the secret of the Prince's identity captivated me. The chapters in which Harry discovered Voldemort's past were wonderful, as were the beginning and end chapters, but the storylines from the middle part of the book, the ones which did not concern Voldemort, effectively spoiled the fun for me. In general, the world outside Hogwarts is falling apart, but I had the impression that there is a safe bubble in Hogwarts, inside which all the students suddenly went crazy with young love...
    5. Philosopher's Stone - a book definitely for children, but it had the task of introducing the reader to the realities of the magical world - and it fulfilled this task brilliantly. It may not be as brilliant as the next parts of the series, but for the extremely difficult task of presenting so many magical things and threads that become important in the next volumes, I give Philosopher's Stone the 5th place.
    4. Goblet of Fire - there is a lot of good in this book - the Quidditch World Cup, the Triwizard Tournament, the whole dark intrigue leading to Voldemort's return - all this elevates this book very high, but it did not draw me in as completely as the volumes I will discuss below.
    3. Prisoner of Azkaban - I simply couldn't tear myself away from this book. Time travel, Lupin being the werewolf, the journey of the Knight Bus, blowing up Aunt Marge, the hippogriff, Sirius and the Marauders, Patronuses and Dementors - in this volume there are a lot of different threads that finally combine into one wonderful whole. After reading Prisoner of Azkaban for the first time, I felt that I absolutely had to reach for the sequel.
    2. Deathly Hallows - the book is certainly not perfect, but it grabbed me from the beginning and didn't let go until the last page. While Half-Blood Prince was largely about young love, which didn't interest me much, Deathly Hallows is primarily about death - running away from it and finally accepting it. Half-Blood Prince seems to me to be one big prologue to The Deathly Hallows. The tale of the Three Brothers, I think, can be allegorically referred to the key characters of the saga - Dumbledore, Snape and Harry. In this volume, so many threads are skillfully intertwined and so many mysteries are explained that I am surprised that J.K. Rowling managed to do this. The volume is different from the others, because to a large extent it takes place outside Hogwarts - this is a big plus for me. The only thing that always bugs me a bit in The Deathly Hallows is that, several times, the Author pushes the plot forward using events and situations that could be described as Deus ex Machina. But generally, Deathly Hallows is a wonderful ending to the whole cycle.
    1. The Order of the Phoenix - this is the first volume that I read in its entirety on my own in English. A wonderful, dark, magical and surprisingly mature story. I read non-stop, even neglecting to sleep at night - I couldn't tear myself away. Everything about this book enchanted me and took my breath away. For me - an absolute fantasy classic.

Nice! Very different from my own ranking. I'm surprised to see Half Blood so low on the list. I felt like the romance part of it wasn't what I remember most from it, but also it's around that age where highschool kids start dating and stuff so it's to be expected. You must not like romance in Fantasy books haha

    • @Goury1
      @Goury1 7 дней назад

@@FantasyFiles I do like romance in fantasy books. I just don't like the naive and angsty teenage drama version of it. I love romance when it's done gently and in a charming way, and that's not what I got in HBP..... it might be because of the fact that I had never fallen in love as a teenager - I sort of skipped the angsty, hormone-drive phase in my life... I read HBP only once, at the age of 18, so far. However, I've been recently experiencing the whole saga again - as audiobooks. I've never listened to Harry Potter audiobooks before - so it's a fresh new experience for me. I'm listening to Goblet of Fire right now and I think I like it more than the Prisoner of Azkaban... Once I listen to the HBP, it might swap places in my ranking too... We will see... What's your HP book ranking, I'm curious?

awesome that you liked it, I would give you one bit of advice though don't be fooled by the group think on the net the cursed child is not as bad as many of them claim their mostly hung up with their childish idea that Voldermort having a child requires him to know love, sorry to break it to you kids but some one needs to more accurately explain the birds and the bee's to you lol, also the Fanstatic beasts movies and books are a mater piece, people just went against them for political reasons

Liking the series is fair enough, but actually calling it good and putting it on par with greats like Tolkien or Lewis is blasphemy. The power fantasy that Rowling provides to feed our escapeism lets you easily overlook all the major issues. There is no moral depth to it, it lacks character development, the worldbuilding is outrageously lazy, almost everyone is a bully in their own way, and it‘s basically one giant „idiot plot“ where everyone is so stupid that it hurts.
