The game begins with the Prince (which is only a nickname, the game does not actually mention whether he is from a royal family) in search of his donkey, Farah, in the middle of a desert sandstorm. He then runs into Elika, a princess of the Ahura who is fleeing from soldiers. The two fend off the soldiers, with Elika discovering her magical powers of light. The Prince follows her into a temple which houses Ahriman, a force of evil who is trapped within a tree known as the Tree of Life. Once inside the temple, the Prince and Elika are confronted by Elika's father, the Mourning King, who faces them in battle. After the fight, he uses his sword to cut the Tree of Life, setting Ahriman free. The Prince and Elika escape the temple, only to find a corrupted world outside.

This was supposed to be the start of another trilogy, but it didn't make a gazillion dollars, so Ubi pulled the plug. How sad. The music, the artwork, the story line, vocal performances, the fight mechanics were all simply amazing. I think this is one of the most beautiful games ever made. I guess AC has been more financially lucrative, and I get that, but I still think most of the PoP titles are superior from an enjoyment perspective.
Yeah same .the game was AESOME it's clear it needs a sequel, there r things to be done yet. But damn ppl live for propaganda .yet to grow up.

This game is such an underrated gem, still so sad the story was never continued. I was one of those that really loved it (Even got the 'Epilogue' DLC) & still want to see the next chapter of the story.
I feel like the mistakes Ubisoft made were:
1: Calling it "Prince of Persia". That just biased most of the fans of the 'Sands' trilogy against it as they wanted more of That story once they heard a new P.o.P was being made.
All they had to do was name it after what one of the 2 lead characters is "Prince of Thieves". That way people feel like its a new I.P under the similar P.o.P blanket.
2: I remember friends of mine who played it as well as me saying that Elika's rescue ability makes the game have no real stakes.
What they should have done is make it kind of like Extra Lives in 'DOOM', but instead of finding them like collecting Light-Seeds, you can build them via your actions during exploration & combat.
Besides that one awesome part in the story where you use it to reveal the real her :)
when you fall or get defeated it auto revives you but if you have none you restart at a checkpoint.
I was never really a fan of the Prince of Persia series, but the interactions between the Prince and Elika were fantastic and kept me playing. Kari Wahlgren is one of my favorite voice actresses.
Omg Elika was purely beautiful and a innocent soul, I do wish they've could've continued this! I adored the background music, the breathtaking views but not the flirty Prince. I like him being more stern than a relaxed personality, this was a beautiful game. I'm a Prince Of Persia fan for life!! #PrinceOfPersiaIsBaee💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙
Agreed! Thought I actually really liked his fun outgoing and flirty personality, it felt more alive than a typical serious type. That's something I'm worried other Prince of Persia games miss- are the other versions of the prince just super serious?
That's no way a flirty personality lmfao, saying from experience as I have some friends who flirt quite often. I would rather say this is quite wholesome personality and as you might see in the game this prince likes sarcasm and jokes quite often making him the most alive POP protagonist.
The original Prince of Persia Trilogy (Sands of Time, Warrior Within, and The Two Thrones) was underrated and best game of my childhood.
This game, however, I have never played it though heard it had beautiful graphics back when we have the Xbox 360s.

The original trilogy actually consists of Prince of Persia (1989), Prince of Persia 2: The Shadow and the Flame (1993), and Prince of Persia 3D/Arabian Nights (1999).

If you left the game for some minute, it activates one of the most beautiful 'screensaver' sequence instead of just some character idle animation.

The lack of a sequel is dissapointing.
The art style is beautiful, so is the music, the writing is good.
And you have two VA legends, Nolan North and Kari Wahlgren voicing the two main characters.
One of the best storylines ever. The character development, the relationship, the growth... amazing

The jumping plates still somehow managed to spike my adrenaline every time… guess I didn’t fully process that I couldn’t die when I played the game lol
Because you're not supposed to die in any game and this game shows you that. In previous prince of persia games, you died but that was not the part of the story; here your falling, failures, Elika rescuing you, you getting damage are all part of the story. Just like in real life, you die once and don't continue your story, in order to continue your story you need to stay alive, that's what this game is.

The game was pretty good. But it was incomplete. Basically, I ended up using my imagination to create the perfect ending.

It is a good game. But the problem was that the was incomplete. The only thing that I can recommend after finnishing the game is to imagine what happens next.

This had great potential but at the time all people wanted was the same serious prince fm the first trilogy in another timeline or something. This would look great on ps4 now.

Yeah, that's the whole point of the story is. It's character development, it's the story of not you stopping an evil God, it's about a selfish, careless guy falling in love with a princess. He did what he did, cause like her father, he too didn't want to lose the only person he loved. That's why like her father, he too chose selfishness over protection of world. Not idealistic but kinda realistic.

Honestly I think this had better visuals and sound for story I prefer warrior within but then again I came to existence thanks to this game

watching this in 2022 and Ubisoft is Going back to the Original roots to South asia and all that i miss when we would get passionate and innovative projects like these i mean you can just tell by the feel of the game, Nowadays Ubisoft and other AAA studios games have just became a list of checkmarks that they need to clear and no passion behind it Hopefully from this year forward things will get better.

Yes. Because when the prince revived Elika again,it basically destroyed and drained the tree of life's power to contain and hold Ahriman. He was free into the world to begin his cosmic conquest anew.
Plus,ormazd told the prince to bring her back as she is the key to his downfall. Also..wether you believed the word of the dark god or not,the tree was dwindling and wouldn't keep him imprisoned for long.

I'm sorry I just couldn't get through this game. I bought the whole PoP franchise on gog for like $7. I was having so much fun going through them all and this was the only one I hadn't played previously. The combat is abysmal!! It was teeth grindingly awful and while I agree that this game should focus on the parkor, there are some mechanics that are improved from the trilogy, even so it becomes graining after even 6 hours. Sorry I just had to vent and I wanted to see how it ended in glad I quit halfway through
I felt the same dude. the combat took a step back from Warrior within and The Two Thrones. It's the same thing over and over. I love the look of the game, but the mindless collect a thousand orbs and the same combat over and over made me not like this one as much. I got about halfway through and stopped. Came here to see how it ends lol.
@@Hoytful There's a certain point where I just had to pause the game and say "Oh, this is it, isn't it? this is what the game is going to be for another 12 hours", again the parkour was fun, it just wasn't enough to sustain a full play through.
Oh and they just made the prince become drake from uncharted, they even got the same voice actor.
