As you may have seen on @stevemorrisracing I bought my Dads Wagon and started to build it for as cheap as I could. I am so excited for the final reveal of this thing!
Kyle, you should have gloves on when cleaning and tack ragging, every time you touch the car with your bare hands you leave oils behind which can and will usually cause fish eyes in the paint. I think your doing an awesome job in general though!
I cringed a Lil everything he touched when wiping it 😂 habits from learning the gard way well and having old timers smack u in the head everytime u do it
I learned this when I was learning to paint freedom seed throwers. It's a sad day when somewhere you touched doesn't take the paint. Kyle did way better than my first few attempts and on a much larger scale.
Kyle, I was watching the video of you and your dad dynoing Tom Bailey’s old pro charger blow through carb engine. I worked around a lot of turbomachinery during my career and one safety thing we were very strict on was not wearing anything that dangles from your neck (i.e., necklaces, ID badges, etc.). In the video I referenced above you were in the dyno room with the engine idling and you leaned over the front of the engine and the draw strings at the neckline of the hoodie you were wearing were hanging dangerously close the the large drive pulley’s. If the strings get caught in the pulley’s it would pull your head right into the turbo drive belt causing significant injury. I just wanted to bring this to your attention. I/We would hate to see you get injured!
Gave you a thumbs up for the shooting, but, if you were going for the "Pimp" look with the paint job... Gotta say, YOU NAILED IT!!! Enjoying the show so far 🙂
Bulldog anti-fisheye paint additive......use it, period. Slower reducer will allow the clear to *float out* and get smoother. Looks every bit as ethnic as Murder Novas wagon.....is that what you were going for ? Nailed it.
Two things that will vastly improve your shooting skill. 1: Correct your grip 2: use your non dominant hand to hold the gun. The dominant hand should be pretty much dead, and held in place by the other hand. Move only your trigger finger. Don’t put any pressure on any other finger. Try that. Great video overall. I like it.
Kyle use sanding primer give the area a dusting and the 220 300 sanding sponges work amazing when you dont put alot of pressure on them, also when your painting no need to move so fast side to side take your time and do a 60 to 75 percent overlap
My uncle done painting body back in the day and didn't wear masks very much over the years and later in life got COPD so bad from it and it started to harden in his lungs, he passed a couple years back
I didn't know you had your own channel until tonight when it was in my feed ! I follow your dad idk 4-5 years You made bill pop I'm 65 & I love it ! Just a tip read the tubes new rules on guns They already banned a few gun groups !
Good job,now for phase two get out the thin line masking tape and air brush for some wild graphics. You took on a heavy project for your first adventure and did pretty well with it. Anxious to see it all finished. I love wagons, have owned four, the last one was a 92 Caprice. The one I want back is my 70 Buick Estate Wagon,it was a real runner. Keep on having fun,and your time at the range might make me get my reloading stuff out.
Nice project kyle. Flake requires too much science to get it right. Need the correct gun w/agitator. Gottashoot in one direction so it lays down, material constancy, air pressure etc. I love House of Kolor Shimrin Pearls, its more consistent & the colors blend into one another outta hand. I personally had best results spraying flake with a top coat clear. Inter clear only for graphics & to bury artwork between layers. Have fun youngblood see ya next week ✌️
I have to say that I really like the way you and your dad treat y'all's fans on the youtubes and in the wild and so you know we appreciate y'all's time and also I want to say thank you.
I'm just over in Ravenna and we are in your neck of the woods often. . .I can't WAIT to see this thing in the wild!! I do photography on the side so hit me up for a golden out shoot some day.
Wax and grease remover is a petroleum product that leaves a hazy film. You need to go back over the car several times with a non-filming glass cleaner to get rid of the wax and grease remover haze, along with all the oil coming off your skin every time you touch it, which you never want to do just before spraying.
Well, you know Squirrel’s had a lot of experience watching someone paint helicopters! And I’m sure Squirrels more than happy to share all of his experiences! Lol
Yeah mate. Use some Nitrile gloves for all of your prepsol and tack rag work. When you were putting prepsol on the bonnet before paint chase it with a clean cotton rag and do not let it dry on the car (not so important when you are going to be flaking over it). Painting is just all prep and practise for the spraying pretty much. With your metal flake you just need more clear on it. It's very hard to bury the coarser you get and that looks like a nice medium size flake. Standard practice is clear it with like 5 coats sand all smooth with some 800g wet then re clear it and you will have a nice even final topcoat finish. It's looking pretty good so far, keen to see it done! Just a few tips from someone who has been painting professionally for a good while.
From my limited 1/2 assed respray jobs I might have a few tips for you. When you a sanding for colour dry is fine of the occasional spot but a wet rub is the way to go. The soapy water prevents oils getting on the car and if you do rub off some silicone or contaminate it will be floated away rather than spread. It's bloody messy but in the end it works out pretty well. Hard blocks have their place making something flat, knocking down edges and lumps but if the panel is good you should always try to use soft backing for your sanding as it will follow the contours better. Fewer rubbed through edges on body lines. Often the use of painters tape to protect an edge of a body line helps a lot keeping them crisp. Often fish eyes are the result of the compressor pushing out oil. Even though it should be dry. Entire systems get lightly contaminated and can cause no end of problems. A good decent size Filter Regulator coming out of your compressor is a good start. Dont cross use your hoses between air tools and painting hoses. The fittings and the hose can get oil in them. If you must flush them with the wax and grease remover. A proper oil trap/filter is also very important. I usally use a coalescing type as close to the gun as possible. This will catch stray droplets of water and oil down to below sub micron levels and often dry the air to very close to freezing dew point. I have been using these for years pressurising machine tool spindle housings to prevent contamination and had no problem associate with them. Nice job overall Flake like that really is difficult to apply and I only did a few bike tanks and frames. Very nice 👍
Remember to clean everything good and anything you touched with your hands. The best thing is to wear latex gloves or the oil from the skin can cause issues that's the biggest reason for fish eyes and make sure you have drained the compressor of all water and have a water seperator in line or that will cause issues in the paint too and good luck with the flake I have only tried using it once and it was big flake and I had issues with it going on even.
As far as the flake, less is more. My opinion. Especially for a driver. If it would be a show car you wouldn't be painting it at home. LOL Great job on the video with the time lapse etc.
The southern poly clearcoat isgood stuff. I usually use their universal clear and everyone is always amazed by depth and shine. It is nice to see someone else using them
Good job for first time mate. Maybe next time when you use big flake like that you have to use a pot gun with marbles in it. and give it a shake every now and then that’s why it came out a little bit blotchy for you. but love what you’re doing with it cheers.👍🏽
Nothing wrong with a Poly paint booth , Tape some furnace filters to the poly for air intakes m over the years I've 10 plus cars in my garage ! and I'm 68
For never having done any kind of bodywork i applaud you for just doing it. I too, did that back when i was young, and told "you can't do that" by many people. I didn't spray a bunch of flake. I believe the clear, just wasn't setup how you needed to achieve a smooth finish, but theres nothing wrong with learning. Im the kinda guy who has to get in and learn. Just like crashing a CNC, sometimes you just gotta do it to know what not to do.
For your first time painting you picked a hard one to lay down. You're taking your time and learning along the way. Good job. You definitely kept it a secret 🤔. Got to say what's up Nate 🤘. Nice to see him/you in the episode.
Wen you use a tac cloth tak your masking paper also, dust lays on the paper then shows up in the paint, also dont touch paint area with bare hands, oil from your skin can cause fish eye.
Love to see people putting the work into the project themselves. Nobody can nit pick that paint job for a garage paint job. That’s going to be a fun car.
Kyle as someone who had to learn to paint late in life you did dam good! Gloves are a big key! All so Id sand the car with 200 or 400 to flaten out the flake and then use a high solid clear. Most will self level and give you a really flat and shiny paint job! Great job!
Get a set of soft blocks, stay away from the edges with the block.. it'll go a lot easier. Props to you for getting it done though! Nothing wrong with picking something up and trying to do it! That's how we expand our abilities to do different things!
Hi Points have such a bad rep. Way to just own up to it and explain why you like it. Great video! Love the variety of content and great job balancing showing everything going on and keeping it entertaining! Time lapse sure helped a lot. Thanks for sharing when you were doing research and showing the attempts of doing things before and after the research. It's nice to see someone showing what feels real and not just the highlights.
Hey Kyle are you thinking about a affordable engine swap maybe a 5.3 or 6.0 n/a with some chop and an x pipe and some satin black 22" wheels and or Chrome but having some black accents of the roof and with some blacked out wheels with that unique paint job. Definitely needs a posi and some chop maybe a couple roasters when it's all done.
I painted my first jeep( ZJ ) and it got SO many compliments, especially for a jeep that was bedlined with rattle cans , I could not drive it without getting a compliment, and it was hard as nails, it dented but didn't scratch it
Couple things to think about definitely want to put gloves on, the oil from your skin will cause issues for sure, spraying the floor and walls down with water will help with any dirt blowing up, and spraying paint on the plastic could flake off when it drys and blow around the room and on the car, props for taking on the project painting aint easy...
Good job Kyle, my first time painting a car was my 1st wife's 72 Camaro years ago in the early 80 in my dads garage set up like you did. I sprayed six coats of a flake light blue and it looked great except for one 1/4" fisheye right in the middle of the hood. So I decide to spray one more coat to cover it up but I too had run out of reducer so I thought I would just thin the paint with paint thinner and applied one more coat. About five minutes later the paint started separating and gave the paint a bed liner texture. I was so bummed. the next day I tried sanding it down and that texture would not sand smooth. I never did get it right. We ended in divorce. That's how I fixed it. Not just because of the paint job. I made a lot of mistakes in my young years and that one never got fixed. so be happy with your job it could be worst, looks great.
This brought back a lot of memories I painted my first car when I was 20 years old at a low 12 seconds Mustang that I put a custom color on it, a blue metal flake. I was so new I didn't realize I had to keep shaking the paint and the first like six or seven coats anyhow the paint shop that I was buying the paint from set they don't know of anybody else that's ever used 6 gallons of paint and that's not including my clear coat😂😂😂
Don't make excuses. You can't learn unless you do it. I think it looks great. Especially for your first time.
Kyle, you should have gloves on when cleaning and tack ragging, every time you touch the car with your bare hands you leave oils behind which can and will usually cause fish eyes in the paint. I think your doing an awesome job in general though!
I came on to say that never touch it after wax and grease removal
I cringed a Lil everything he touched when wiping it 😂 habits from learning the gard way well and having old timers smack u in the head everytime u do it
I learned this when I was learning to paint freedom seed throwers. It's a sad day when somewhere you touched doesn't take the paint. Kyle did way better than my first few attempts and on a much larger scale.
More coats thinner
You really lay it on lol
Fantastic. Do what you like. Not what others want. Go Kyle
What an impressive young man. I love the drive and energy. Not afraid to try anything. Keep it up.
Gave you a thumbs up for the shooting, but, if you were going for the "Pimp" look with the paint job... Gotta say, YOU NAILED IT!!!
Enjoying the show so far 🙂
Obviously you are a logical thinker, and can rationalize the situation. Pretty darn good for a first time. Looking forward to seeing more.
Awesome paint job they did that in the 70s and 80s pimping ...keep living the dream ✨️
Bulldog anti-fisheye paint additive......use it, period.
Slower reducer will allow the clear to *float out* and get smoother.
Looks every bit as ethnic as Murder Novas wagon.....is that what you were going for ? Nailed it.
Bass Boat Boost Master ??? Now you need a license plate that says, " 24KTAU " ( Twenty four Karat Gold )
Love metal flake paint jobs!!
Gonna be so sick!!!
Spraying flake it's usually good to spray opposite patterns on the panels. Less streaking. And light coats, love it though! The gold is awesome!
FYI, got your video and your dads at same time, today.
I’ll for sure watch, SME after this video!!
Diving into flake as a first paint job is a ballsy move, I must say. Yes, lighting is high on the list of must haves..
All that matters is that your happy with it and it goes fast! This is your car and you do what makes you happy.
Kyle 😂 I lost it when you thought the smoke alarm would stop at the thermostat. Hahahaha
@@crocreations smart home crap i dont know how to use. i think the fumes got too me a lil too 🤣
@Motorsportkyle hahaha. Still awesome for a quick at home job though. Love the channel. Keep up the awesome work.
Walk the panels while applying the flake with a 75-90% overlap and since the flake is large it needs 4-6 coats of clear to bury it.
Two things that will vastly improve your shooting skill.
1: Correct your grip
2: use your non dominant hand to hold the gun.
When you're spraying flake ya gotta keep that cup moving so the flake stays in suspension.
Thanks for the tip man!
Doesn't need to be perfect, just needs to be yours! Great job Kyle!!
My uncle done painting body back in the day and didn't wear masks very much over the years and later in life got COPD so bad from it and it started to harden in his lungs, he passed a couple years back
My only suggestion is Gloves 100% of the time after the first blocking. Oil from your hands is no joke!!! Keep on keeping on brother 👍👍.
Gotta change tip when spraying flake will stop the bad flow
The bumps you have are from wrong tip when spraying flake
I didn't know you had your own channel until tonight when it was in my feed ! I follow your dad idk 4-5 years You made bill pop I'm 65 & I love it ! Just a tip read the tubes new rules on guns They already banned a few gun groups !
Looks good Kyle. Considering what paint jobs cost these days. 👍
Dude for your first paint job it turned out great. 👍
Awesome! Gold looks good on ANY low rider! Can’t wait to see it done. Wagons forever.
Nice project kyle.
Flake requires too much science to get it right.

Love it Kyle!!!
Keep it going!!!
I have to say that I really like the way you and your dad treat y'all's fans on the youtubes and in the wild and so you know we appreciate y'all's time and also I want to say thank you.

To even out heavy metallic, you basically need to turn into an acrobat, and walk the length of the car with each trigger pull.
It looks good for a first timer!! But you should lay a couple more coats of straight clear on it !! For a little more depth!!
You need a 2ft long block for the flat surface your striving for.
Very cool and really good for your first time for sure!!!!
Gonna have to rename the car “stripper glitter”🤣
Dexter would be critical of your plastic placement... I reckon it looks the goods!
You have pretty good gun technique (spray gun that is) for your first time but keep a 60 to 75 % overlap.
Looks good Kyle! Steve’s wagon would look @ least 10 mph faster if it was gold bass boat flake!
So much flake it's textured! Can't wait to see what it looks like when it's 100% complete.
Bro! You're trying! That's how I learned. Thanks to you for keeping it going. I'll be 57 August 16th and im ready to build another drag car!
AWESOME JOB KYLE!!
In the next episode you will hear the secret call between Squirrel and Kyle regarding the proper use of the spray gun.😂
Well, you know Squirrel’s had a lot of experience watching someone paint helicopters! And I’m sure Squirrels more than happy to share all of his experiences! Lol

Only problem I see Kyle, is that car needs some flake in the paint. 😂. You wont know whether to cast a spinner bait out the window or do a burnout!😂😂❤
True story
50/50 overlaps are one of the professional tips I have that I can pass onto u
Can't wait to see the finished product! 👍😎
Maybe its the Packer fan in me, but the green and gold looks great 😂
My 96 road master estate is white and wood grain dropped on 20s but I have a rear ro;led bumper and it helps a lot and my custom plate is “BIG SEXY”
As far as the flake, less is more. My opinion. Especially for a driver. If it would be a show car you wouldn't be painting it at home. LOL Great job on the video with the time lapse etc.
Looks great for DIY.

Good work. Probably see the wagon at a car show here in Muskegon

Your dad is gonna call you Libarachy.
Love it though 👍✨️
You need a big green G on that hood with some green trim! 💥💯
Kyle if you wet sand flakes. You will be able to not fill them after clear coat.
The only way to learn is to do. Respect the effort!
Hey Kyle are you thinking about a affordable engine swap maybe a 5.3 or 6.0 n/a with some chop and an x pipe and some satin black 22" wheels and or Chrome but having some black accents of the roof and with some blacked out wheels with that unique paint job. When you're done you will have a great Pimp Mobile, finish the look off with a Mardi Gras Pimp Hat....Nice paint job for a first timer....
Big engine inboards!
I painted my first jeep( ZJ ) and it got SO many compliments, especially for a jeep that was bedlined with rattle cans , I could not drive it without getting a compliment, and it was hard as nails, it dented but didn't scratch it
Bedliner is NOT paint!
Get a 5.7 mm. And awesome job on the paint
Ive always loved those things you guys are making them a lot cooler though
Great paint job!! The gold flake looks very good an a wagon. Can't wait to see when you're finished.
tripple gold daytons for rims
Your car I appreciate your hard work thanks for your videos
the hood ornament does unbolt.

Cool,I painted my 1985 svo mustang flat black in 2007 and started a trend....lol
Good job Kyle, my first time painting a car was my 1st wife's 72 Camaro years ago in the early 80 in my dads garage set up like you did. I never did get it right. We ended in divorce. That's how I fixed it. Not just because of the paint job. I made a lot of mistakes in my young years and that one never got fixed.
so be happy with your job it could be worst, looks great.
Looks like , port city pistols range???
Love that place.
Great place.
After you spray flake, use just intercoat clear, spray 3 coats then next day sand it smooth with 800 grit then spray your clear.
A quote I live by “ good enough for who it’s for!”
Nice work. Keep it up. Impressive
Going to be very cool to see 2 Wagons side by side.. good times man.
Cool Kyle BAD ASS ❗✌️💥
Looks just fine wait till it’s in the sun wow
