I've been doing basically this since i started homebrewing a few months ago, but using herbal tea as flavouring. Basically i make sweet tea, add yeast (baker's yeast actually :p), put it in a 5 liter jug to ferment and bottle it 10-20 days later. I've been doing mostly rooibos and hibiscus tea which turns out great. You can get a nice watermelon taste from it actually, which is surprising but really delicious :) Also a great way to get into homebrewing and learn the basics (especially everything relating to cleanliness and bottling), without worrying too much about all the intricacies of beer brewing, and also not feel like you wasted too much money if it does fail, since it's just sugar and tea :)

I tried hard seltzer for the first time yesterday. And actually I was going into it thinking it would be bad. But I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. Especially for summer it could be a great drink.

Gotta admit I’m not much of a bubbly water fan in the seltzer form but I’d give the homebrewed version a try with flavor enhancers for sure. Nice video 👍🏻
Very good, we had prohibition here in South Africa during lockdown and I brewed a hard seltzer using only supermarket ingredients. Came out ok, but not as clear as your due to the bakers yeast or the fresh lemon juice perhaps!!

I use a traditional fermentation bucket, so I can't get a pressurized water. I simply put the fermented liquid in bottles with 6 gr/l sugar, exactly like beer. There is a refermentation in bottle and I get the same result : fizzling liquid that you may have aromatized before bottling.
Been waiting to try this and actually bought some extracts from Olive Nation before I even saw your video on the topic. I wonder if anyone who kegs has found a good ballpark amount of extract to add to a five gallon batch in a keg?

@@TheHomebrewChallenge Today is a "go-to" house beer. Simple belgian whit beer, with bitter and sweet orange peel and a dash of coriander. Blue moon style, but a little drier hopefully. On a separate note, I remember you said belgian beers are one of your favorites, and it is mine also. My profile picture is actually a belgian golden ale from Belgium ( achuffe's la chuffe). If you haven't tried it yet, i highly recommend. Fantastic belgian ardens flavor and aroma. Enjoy your weekend!

There are natural alternatives to artificial aromas : I put fresh elderflowers and lemon slices in water after fermentation has been done (alcohol protects from infection by wild yeasts).
did you filter this sugar wash after Fermentation done ? i done this with OG 1.045 and after Fermentation the aroma very nasty . very very nasty and i used ZEROWATER Filter and even with that the aroma just very nasty . i did used Nottingham Ale Yeast + Yeast Nutrient + the exact temp advised by Nottingham Ale Yeast . how did you get this without this nasty aroma ?

Why distilled water and not mineral water? You add gypsum but mineral water is going to have many of the minerals that the yeast need. Isn't distilled water more likely to pull minerals from the re-hydrating yeast before they are up and running? Cannot speak about brewers, but wine makers tend to avoid distilled water like the plague when we make country wines...

I tried red star premier cuvee supposed to be champagne yeast but it came out with a strong wine flavor every time

What was the FG? I assume very close to 1 exactly?
It would be zero or slightly below.
If the starting gravity was 1.031 and the final gravity is 1.001, the calculation would be, 1.031-1.001= 0.03 x 131.25 = 3.93% abv. Cheers 🍻

Honestly not sure as we only added it to the samples. Start small and give it a try. Some of the extracts are much stronger than others.

Didn’t filter, just a cold crash. We didn’t notice any unpleasant aromas.

Would prefer that you got the kit for RO water rather than seeing lots of single use plastic for distilled.
Yeah it’s a lot of plastic waste. I usually just filter my water. Haven’t really looked into an RO setup.
Get a distillation lid for your boiler and distill your own water!
why go to all the effort for that? just a really clean neutral spirit and a soda stream would be infinitely better grog is rank!
There is no reason to boil that sugar water for 20 minutes. Zero.
