I am a product of chain migration... My great-grandfather moved to the U.S. on an H-2 visa looking to establish a better life in this country. Impressed by his job-performance, his bosses agreed to sponsor his petition for a green card and became a permanent resident. He was able to bring his wife and 5 children into the United States from the Philippines. He became a naturalized citizen soon after and his wife and children followed... His eldest daughter brought my mother and his two young children here... I am one of those children and I oppose all efforts to end chain migration

A US citizen sponsoring a relative must have sufficient financial resources to fully support the immigrant if that immigrant becomes indigent. They actually look through past tax returns and assets as proof. I don't know anyone who has such "virtually unlimited" resources and as someone who has sponsored an immigrant spouse, let me tell you, the system is quite strong and there are many, many hurdles. I had a much, much easier time gaining permanent residence when I lived overseas long-term.

A US citizen sponsoring a relative must have sufficient financial resources to fully support the immigrant if that immigrant becomes indigent. They actually look through past tax returns and assets as proof. I don't know anyone who has such "virtually unlimited" resources and as someone who has sponsored an immigrant spouse, let me tell you, the system is quite strong and there are many, many hurdles. I had a much, much easier time gaining permanent residence when I lived overseas long-term.
