Massive 15-Foot, Cattle-Eating Alligator Killed In Florida - Newsy

This cattle-eating alligator was way too big for this small Florida town. About 15 feet too big, to be exact.
The massive gator was caught and killed at a farm in Okeechobee, Florida - a town of 5,500 people.
Professional hunter Lee Lightsey told the BBC: "Although this animal is huge, I was not that surprised it existed. ... But what really drew our attention to this animal was the fact that it seems to have been feasting on the cattle on my farm."
Lightsey said when he and his hunting guide saw the alligator surface from the cattle pond, they shot it. They needed a tractor to move the nearly 800-pound gator from the pond.
Lightsey said he noticed mutilated animal body parts in the water.
And, as Newsy's partners at WPTV report, this could be a Florida record.
"The state record for the longest alligator is 14 feet, 3 1/2 inches, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation committee. I don't know. Maybe that could be the biggest one ever found," WPTV's Mike Trim said.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says the alligator is real but has yet to confirm the official size.

I like how everyone's getting asshurt over a lizard being shot yet wouldn't hesitate to get rid of something like that if it was anywhere near their property.
Sauceman speak for yourself sauce man
You do realize gators rarely get past 11 feet nowadays...15 foot gator is really really rare....why kill it when it can go to a zoo
Or...boots, belt buckle, tasty treats, etc...
If it were on my property, I wouldn't want it dead, I'd call animal control to move to a sanctuary, or wild area.
@@MorganDeacetis I wouldn't call anybody. I'd shoot it myself. Fuck these things.
I bet it was the steroids in the cattle that boosted his size. 🐂🐊
i doubt it. alligators grow as long as they live and if the alligator is feasting on cattle thats a lotta meat to eat no?
Good catch
Ma, what's for dinner? Alligator meatloaf Cleetus.
My favorite!
weah... me wife and sister wanna no...
what's for year
😂🤣😂
That's messed up why they gotta kill it you know how long it took that gator to get that big.
Yeah right, I'm all for hunting but yall killing a rare specimen
Yeah. Imagine if it still grows.
It would be the dinosaur!!!
Why do they have to kill it? So sad!!!!!!
15 ft is average size for an old alligator. I've seen plenty of them. Literally SCP 682
Yeah, why you gotta kill sumpin that's eating up ur livelihood and would eventually come looking for your fam? Why???
We have plenty of alligator's here in Florida.
why does this guy look like baloony from phineas and ferb
LOL underrated comment
I was just about to comment that lol
I dont know, Ask God!
that thing should've been a national treasure
totally agree ! why do we allow this sort of thing to happen in 2023. We have not advanced much from the years when the colonial English shot and killed the most beautiful beast on earth. the Bengal tiger.
This thing was killing cows on farmland, it was only a matter of time before it killed a person. Shooting it was actually a really good call, this thing was dangerous
If a saw an Alligator attacking a person I would not help them
Dangerous because it wants to live in its own habitat, where its type have lived for many thousands of years. It is the humans who should be shot, not those wonderful animals ! The farmers are the true vermine. I will take one of those alligators for a million cows and humans every day.
Why they killed it? I am sad now 😂 They should have keep feeding em up till he becomes giant Godzilla 😂😂
Ikr he was a miracle of nature
@@supernovagirl5741 Yep that's true 🐊
Is that real? I didn’t know they get this big. This is crazy they are dinosaurs!!
It’s usually because us as humans kill them before they get too big
Terrifying
Yeah I don't think that's even the record.
life..uhh... finds a way
the crocodiles people release into the Florida swamps are probably breeding with the native alligators
crocodiles and alligators are too distantly related to produce offspring
I respect animals in their natural environment, but it's only when they start to interfere with human livelyhood that they become pests and its all fair game.
Humans are the real pests, they destroy every kind of environment and feel entitled to do so
Sorry but it is the opposite ! the alligators have been in those parts for thousands of years. Humans came much later, and should respect the rights of the animals in that habitat. Humans are the vermin of the earth.
All you gotta do to get a big alligator is to eat cattle
only idiots would think about killing such a precious animal.
Precious nothing this thing is a monster
Alligators can get as long as 16 feet
this is a hoax, the original photo was 'fixed' to make it appear bigger.
Wrote the same thing before reading urs lol.
This the most Florida shit ever
"It's crocs out there this big" ice cube
see you later alligator lol
Too bad because this monster could have been the best weapon to combat the invasive species especially the pythons and other large constrictor snakes!
I understand that it was a pest hurting the farmer's livelihood but honestly, based on it's size alone, they ought to have drugged it by lacing bait and transported it to a zoo or reptile care facility.
100% correct. Steve’s dead so nobody gives af anymore
why they need to kill the gator. ? they just put it or transfer to place that far from human.
Gators have a great sense of direction and large ones can travel long distances to get back to a place they knew to have plentiful food.
Poor gator. These records should only be for live and well examples/ Kill it and get nada. Evidentally this gator was nowhere near everyone's bloated estimates either. The record still stands at 14' 3.5"
What was the actual size?
That's a lot of shoes !
Thought that was a full grown man in the shot with it. Was about to yell bullshit til I noticed it was a small boy, not an old man. That's a big fuckin gator though.
+N Yodeler (NinjaYodeler) Not only is it a small boy, they've used depth perception to trick you into believing the animal is bigger than it is. The boy is about 5 feet behind the alligator, he isn't touching it.
+UtterlyAwesomeVideos Yeah, they're fuckers.
If people are going to live with gators then they have to take extra precautions to safeguard against the dangers they pose....
If you have farm animals you have to check for gators all the time if waterways are on your property...
Fence in homes .....etc...
Don't just think a gator attack want ever happen to you !!
Any area that has ....
Grizzlies...
Coyotes.....
Wolves....
Gators....etc...
Get my point !!
Kill the gator. Use guts as catfish bait. Eat cat fish.
The gator is ten time more intelligent than those thick farmers.
This is real I stayed in Okeechobee Florida for 7 years I was living there wen they caught an killed it
Is this the same one that was in Lakeland FL?
What was the actual size? Or did they not measure it. Doubt they didn't
So where's Peter Pan and hook?
He was a chunky boy. RIP 🐊
Record breaking gator, and they kill it 🤔.. people would have paid to see it
Why didn't they just relocate it instead????
Them Hicks did they relocated it to there stomachs
How many boots would he make?
That is messed up that they killed it, not saying if it was on my property (especially eating my cattle) i wouldnt remove it, because i would. However i would transport it or move it elsewhere.
Seeing a magnificent, record breaking animal like this hanging dead from a tractor is seriously sad. There are ways of removing animals from farms without blasting them full of holes. If my local zoo had a giant alligator like this on display I'd make a special trip just to see it.
I'd like to see you catch it first and RUclips it. That is if the gator doesn't have you for lunch. Now that I'd like to see for free on RUclips.
Yeah, that's a way better Idea, put it in an enclosed environment away from its natural habitat and show it off to sheep like you. You're an idiot.
A full grown cow can cost as much as $3,000 to $4,000. Do the math, add to that, it’s a danger having it on the ranch anything that gets close to the pond would be considered a food source.
@@karenrickert9430 Wonder who was there first. The ranch or the 80-100yr old gator.
Typical “holier than thou” idiot comment, great job bro 🙏.
That alligator is huge wow!!!😲😘😱
not even max size xd
It would be closer to 1300 lbs if it were 15 ft
That’s what I’m thinking. Gatorland took in a 13 footer that was 1,000 lbs, so to be only 800 lbs and longer seems odd. The 13 footer used to eat dogs, so I’d think a cow eater would be heavier. But someone suggested maybe cow steroids had an effect, so it could’ve quickly spurted in length before its weight caught up, assuming the length was verified
WHY DID YA KILL IT DAMMIT
+Hybrid7Theory yes good point, it's just a specimen like that is phenomenal
+Hybrid7Theory FINALLY, someone with common sense. Yes I can imagine it would be quite a task to care for a 15ft Alligator. And I don't know why he did either, some people just go off in one for no reason sometimes. I suppose it would be hard to transport it too. But these things don't happen often, and it amazes me to see things like this 😄
They always say they max out in size at about 14, even 15 feet, but I know, for a fact because I saw it with my own eyes and happened to have a “witness” with me because I just couldn’t believe my eyes! It was easily 15+ft. EASILY! I’d say 16ft, but it’s not like I was able to use a tape measure & I don’t want to exaggerate. So, there have got to be some big huge Mac-daddy gators in Lake Okeechobee and in all of the springs in the central Florida area. They’ve just gotten so smart with their older age & maturity that they stay well hidden & avoid getting caught by humans. I bet there are Florida Alligators that almost touch 18 ft!! I just know they MUST be huge gators in those waters somewhere! ✌️
To be honest if I saw that thing I’d would ascend the the pearly gates in a heartbeat 💀💀💀
I know the weight
legendary bull gator
865 to 904 lbs beside 15 foot 1 inches
@@ashleiagpay4445When, where, I would love to hear more details on this MONSTER.
Florida? Central Florida? Kissimmee area?
I suspect that the presence of humans will suppress the size a top predator can get due to our impact on the populations they eat. Environmental constraints are probably the only thing that limits their growth at all. Idk...
What gun was used to kill it???
HOLY HELL LOOK AT THAT THING DAMN NATURE U SCARY!
Shoulda kept it as a pet and kept feeding it so it could grow more
Y'all acting like a 15 foot gator is big
It is.....for an alligator thats impressive
@@ejay11000 they used to be able to grow even larger until they went almost extinct back in the 60's and 70's
@@Godzilla-bo4jj i think the largest alligator ever recorded was 19 feet , which is quite large...thats reaching saltwater crocodile territory large
@@ejay11000 that is correct, 19 feet and 2 or 3 inches. Weighed anywhere from 1,500 up to 2,000 pounds
Who killed the gator? The farmer or conservation officer?🐊
What’s going on we’re getting these big large gators?
Why killed?
+Kodie Weir thankfully someone understand
+Kodie Weir you would have probably made more money capturing it than killing it. Just saying.
+Wilson Wu they*
***** yup
It was a world record. So... It would have probably paid well.
This is not real! All TV stations would be talking on it. And, why isn’t it taken to GATORLAND ORLANDO??
That ain't no gator lol u killed godzilla's fetus
Amazing it wasn’t the longest or biggest on record
they didn't have to kill this reptile should have let it live. sure it was eating his cows. but hey it was huge. it had to eat to live just as we all do..
I mean hey its florida
nah thats a dinosaur
The boy enjoys steak.
“Look at that giant Gator, nature sure is awesome… Let’s KILL IT” 😠
so there is hope that giant monsters exist yay 😍
Huh
These creatures are not native here !
RIP
That alligator is a wonder of nature ! Cattle are not. Save the gator's
Dam huge bugga,, lot's of boots and hand bags.
There will be another one and another and another no matter how many kill and destroy anything and everything on this earth…
Dangit, I could have gotten quite few pairs of shoes and some nice handbags out of that thing! Oh well, maybe next time!
Old long crocodile not kill they grow more big
So? Ugh nobody knows the truth that Aligator is not that big. The kid is behind it and made it look like hes touching its foot. And am I the 9nly one who knows.? BUT a aligator is in a alligator farm somewhere in Florida and its 14 foot longs and his names buddy! f
This is some Florida bullshit

This is 100% fake look at the hand of the kid isn't WERID and just because he say it's real is not real
Alexa Love I mean it's not fake lol and wayyyyyy more people went out to see it's body after he killed it. SoFlo yo

Oh look a potential large tourist attraction! Kill it!
Yeah, instead of killing it let's capture it, and keep a 16 foot alligator in captivity. Jesus...
+6.5/10 - IGN are you suggesting we shouldn't or should?
+Mitchell Staley im suggesting that the suggestion of keeping a 16 foot alligator in captivity is absolute nonsense. This animal had to have been several decades old, and was an apex predator in its environment. Taking this animal and trying to contain it while keeping it at a humane level of comfort would have been a larger monetary and social drain than the profits from tourism would have allowed. Add this to the fact that "I can, therefor I should" isn't necessarily true in this scenario it becomes an even more grey area. Relocation would have been the best option, but even then with a predator of this size you risk unbalancing whatever ecosystem you put it into. Tough situation without a really easy answer, but "hey let's kill that sumbitch" and "I betcha I coulda done made a fortune hyuck" aren't the only two options.
oh look a potential threat ! jesus you're an idiot
+6.5/10 - IGN what do you know about alligator keeping. You are obviously a gamer. The hobby of gaming and animal research are not mutually exclusive but almost never together.
What a waste should of been relocated to the glades to eat pythons by the ton !!
noooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!
bruh
Found...😅
Now the Pythons will take over The alligators job,
Nice gator !
Biggest one ever gound..
Killed by morons.Could have called in a rescue unit to have it taken away.

Would of been nice if they could of relocated him. I mean he was a king... humans always killing things. Isn’t there a better way? Why can’t we share this world?
Humans kill their preborn children what do you expect?
Well the native Americans where killed and so was black people and everyone think's people should forget about it and move on, I know y'all ain't implying that gator life is more important than a race of people?
