who else STILL gets goosebumps everytime they hear this song?
Years later and I still do. My favorite GNR tune
I get goosebumps!
everytime i hear axl rose ,it's like hearing a duck
Especially Flash solo
I'm 45 and I had tears coming down my cheeks when I saw them live 2 weeks ago and they played this song
This song is a masterpiece and it absolutely holds up today. Songwriting, composition, performance.
And it's got a flute and strings :-)
Early symphonic metalish.
Fun fact, that arrangement is Axl and a keyboard, which makes it quite a bit more genius on his part.
@@Francis..... he kinda did. He didn't have to be a dick about it but, many tremendously talented people are also deeply flawed. Chinese Democracy might have been a better album if his ego hadn't already driven away everyone who was there in the beginning.
Its a cello not a flute
I guess it's a cello not a flute thanks for the correction. Whatever it is it's nice
Slash soloing outside the church was one of the coolest things that 8 year old me had ever seen! I remember seeing this on MTV and instantly thinking that Slash was probably the coolest dude on the planet.
I can never get over how HUGE that church is inside when the marriage scene is happening and how LITTLE the Church is when Slash walks out for his guitar solo 😂😂😂
Right lol 😆😆😆
Nice point \m/
Somehow the small church in the desert always makes me think of the church in Kill Bill
I hope that you realize, that scene was intended to be that way. lol
It's a Tardis Church!
The video is actually based (albeit loosely) around a short story called "Without You," written by Del James. The story tells the tale of a blues musician who tries to cope with a girlfriend who has committed suicide. James was another friend of Axl's and co-wrote several Guns tunes.
Actually, it's about his late wife.
@@alricaneshama You're right. He cheated on his wife over and over again and she finally took her own life over it, if memory serves. It's been years since I read that story. Isn't there a big fire at the end of that story?
@@alricaneshama Correct. This, Don't Cry and Estranged form a trilogy of sorts.
@@cinderellsworth its not cheating its exercise
Played this at my dads funeral, he was a huge Guns N’ Roses fan. Loved watching her vibe to this. ❤️
😢 Sorry for your loss I'm sure he's still rockin out.
You: I think I've got this song figured out, it's chill.
Slash: Hold my Beer.
That final solo still gives me chills 30 years later
Slash:hold my piano 😁
"...but don´t take away my cigarette"
@@ES-fg2bf em mim também, todas as vezes que ouço, e acho ele genial
This thread! 🙌
I remember seeing this video when it first came out. Back when MTV played actual music videos. Always thought Slash stepping up on the piano was the most epic solo walk up I’ve ever seen
I remember it too. My moment was when he walked out of the church and assumed the proper power stance.
Yeah exactly MTV plays everything BUT music videos now a days.
Instead of MTV it should be called DTV... Drama television videos because that's all I see now a days garbage...
The downfall of MTV started with The Real World and Road Rules
I love this video-seriously epic. Remember, drones weren’t a thing at that time so Slash’s solos were filmed by a helicopter flying around him. I was in junior high when this double album came out and we were absolutely obsessed with this and “Don’t Cry.”
I love the way Lex feels every note in her soul.
Love watching Lex’s face light up when the solos hit. Makes me smile too!!😀
I do not care what genre of music someone likes, this solo can be hated by nobody!
Brad is FOREVER looking confused af, though! 🤣
"It got dark so fast she's still in her wedding dress" ... now that's BARS. 😂😂😂
😂😂
The first two guitar solos I ever learned when I started playing guitar over 20 years ago.
Absolutely epic, legendary track.
🤟
Awesome. Mine was knocking on heavens door. 👍👍
fun fact. this was the most expensive music video of all time back then!
Slash is the most awesome man on the planet during the main solo!
Dude still is
@@mr.smithgnrsmith7808 no, Michael and Janet Jackson´s video Scream is the most expensive music video for a long time now
@@maxis5650 I think he was referring to Slash. He is still one of the greatest guitar players out there! Slash took classic rock and mixed it with classic blues, and made it a signature sound that is instant recognizable, original to his own! What a legend!
@@maxis5650 That was 4 years after this song.
Estranged was the more expensive video of the two.
Your other statement holds up as fact: Slash was the man.
My very simple view. First video is about his girl battling depression. November rain continues it her depression with him trying to save her but she kills herself and 3rd one estranged is the grief and aftermath of his loss. At least that’s what I got from it. Lost my wife to breast cancer 6 yrs ago after 5yrs married so these songs/videos have new meaning for me
That's exactly how I saw it
I see it as don’t cry is Axl cheats on her and tries to regain her forgiveness then with November rain she learns to forgive him and they get married but she can’t deal with it and killa herself then with estranged it’s Axl trying to deal with her death
"Don't Cry", "November Rain" and "Estranged are the trilogy but I feel "Coma" is the bitter end to it all.
"Coma" was originally meant to finish off the trilogy, but they decided to let "Estranged" take that role after Axl Rose and Stephanie Seymour broke up irl.
estranged is my fav :)
You can name all the songs from guns n roses young people today don't really respect it like it should be
And coma is just so much fun to sing in the car.
I love how Lex enjoys the music and feels it in her soul ! Great reaction
I'll say it again, PATIENCE is one of their very best "Power/Monster Ballad's" of the 80's. I'll be watching for your reaction soon!
This song was prophetic for me and my 15 y marriage.
We even finalized in late November.
We both have moved on and are doing well, but it still resonates somehow…
This song is so much more powerful and poignant with the video.
She died by suicide. One side of her face was intentionally not visible.
He walked by a gun shop at Slash solo segment.
The short story this song was based on.
Dude... what?
I’m getting ready to go see them tonight in Indianapolis, I hope they are still as good as they were the first time I seen them in 1988!!!
Just got home!!! And WOW I was not disappointed!
I’m supposed to see them in November in Melbourne Australia can’t see it happening with the lockdown shit over here 😢
I was there too! Front row right in front of Slash! Absolutely amazing night
I heard you have to leave home 2 hours after the show is scheduled to start and then arrive just in time for them walking on stage for the 1st song? 😂
@@danosverige 😂😂😂
When I seen them in 91 or 92 on their Use Your Illusion 1 and 2 tour with Metallica, we most definitely waited at least 2 hours for them!
You guys always bring me back to middle school and beginning of high school with your reactions. I love it :) My gosh this album was life changing for a lot of us too. I remember loving this song so dang much. 🍁 🌧
Same.. Flashbacks of middle school for sure 😆
SAME HERE!!!
8th grade dance party vibes is strong in this song. Along with Hip Hop Hurray and Jump Around! Oh yeah, and Baby Got Back!!!
That first solo gets me everytime I hear it!!! Still to this day, is my all time favorite guitar solo!!!
"It was chill, but it was so powerful." Perfect description.
When you don't know the trilogy, it's fun to imagine "I Used To Love Her" as the song between the parts of November Rain. 😂
😂
🤣🤣
Now that's a great song!
I love the fact that you guys don’t waste our time with useless intros. You just get right down to business and I love that! You guys earned a sub for respecting other people’s time! Love your reactions too! Too many interruptions ruin the vibe of the songs. Too many people must think we are looking for a breakdown and analysis of each line and meaning of each word. No watch the entire video then go back and dissect the song. This is just one of my pet peeves. People will stop a song and start asking questions that are answered in the next line or two, then stop again to go Ohhhhh that’s why. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Same thought here..
👏👏👏 Yay!!! SO glad you did the music video!! It's as iconic as the song!! Thanks and you guys ROCK!! 🤗 Gonna watch now!!😎

My favorite song of the Guns. And Slash is maybe not the most "technical" guitarist, but his melodies stay in mind for ever. This is how you enter in the legend.
Slash is a fantastic musician, gots style and talent for days! I really didn’t appreciate it back in the day as I was into heavier stuff but is now one of my favorite guitarists.
Sorry, but Slash is one of THE truly great guitar players of ALL time. His technique frankly is FLAWLESS and he is one of only a very few guitarists who can be identified blind in just a few notes, his effortless style is unmistakable. So, sorry but you are very VERY wrong, but it doesn't surprise me if this is your favourite GnR song. 🤦♂️
@@paulsmith2516 I think what Nitryl is saying, is that your not gonna see slash sweep-picking his way up and then legato-ing his way down the fretboard. For me he is up there with the greats as far as conveying emotion and he actually doesn't get enough credit for his ability to shred tbf
@@paulsmith2516 Jamoon is right. If you think about Steve Vai, SRV, Joe Satriani, and guitarist like Tim Henson for the most recent ones, they are better than Slash technicaly.
But what's make a guitarist a good guitarist ? Not only the technique i think.
I put Slash on the same level as Santana or Gilmour : people will still remember them in the next century because of their style and melodies/riffs. In the same idea, most of people will forget guitarist like Jeff Beck because of lack of "memorable" songs.
And i talk about normies peoples : strong fans and guitarist amateur will remember all past guitarist, but we will never call these guitarist "legends".
Futur gonna tell us if i'm wrong or not, it's just what i think right now and i'm maybe wrong.
PS : sry for mistakes, not my mother language😬.
@@Nitryl44 I agree. I can't think of a single song Jeff Beck played on. I've heard the name, but I'm not sure what he played on. Also : Alan Holdsworth. Eddie Van Halen idolized him, but I can't think of anything he's done.
Got to see them live a few years ago. Never thought in a million years that It would happen. Definitely a bucket list concert for me.
Twice in this reaction, as Brad is explaining the video, Lex was somewhat paying attention. Her response, "man that guitar solo was wailing, it was like a waterfall, it was pouring out". Then later, "that 2nd guitar solo was awesome too, he was killing it" (14:30), with Lex guitar sound effects included.
GNR changed, literally, the face of Rock music in the late 80's/early 90's. Rock was in a serious slump of pop-crap and GNR came on scene like an explosion and showed everyone how to do it again. This November Rain was one of their massive hits in a chain of massive hits.
Brad kept saying he's confused. To know the song, you have to know the story behind it.
Guns are pop rock
Nobody is Perfect
@@andy1982222 Not sure that I agree, especially not their first album.
@@MrRoosterx they were the epitome of glam hair pop rock
It’s just rock n roll. Why all these categories. Lol
At 9.17 I was super excited to see how the reaction changed! The music, bomb, the meaning, heartbreaking. Probably one of my favorite Slash solos ever.
Axl Rose started writing this song when he was 18 in 1981 (lead singer) he is a classicly trained pianist from childhood and finally recorded the finished copy in 1991..releasing it in February 1992...it became a #3 Billboard hit
He lived 11min from me, I was born in 82 and grew up w/them knowing he grew up right next to me, basically. As did Shannon Hoon, even closer to me...Indiana represent
I can't get enough of watching Lex getting into the music and letting it flow through her.
The red roses on the coffin fading to white as the rain rinses the color out..
A super show with a lot of emotion! Enjoying a lot with you!
Congratulations on the reaction! Gun's Roses is a great band!
G&R cover of knocking on heavens door is awesome. I remember the summer the first guns and roses cd first came out was one of the best times of my life. It always brings back great memories.
Lex you have that smile that illuminates any room. Love your positive energy!
I remember all the hype on TV and magazines in regard to that solo... "Best Solo of all time".... "Metallica VS GNR" blah blah 😄
The coolest thing in this video, is remember at that time, there were no drones and fancy cameras. You'll see the sand whip up around Slash as he is circled by an actual friggn helicopter dude!
After you're done with the trilogy you should react to Knockin' On Heaven's Door live at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert, 1992.
In my opinion November Rain is to Guns & Roses what Stairway to Heaven is to Led Zeppelin
Yep two overblown songs and way too overrated. At least g'n'r have some great songs in their catalogue. 😁
@@rossmudie9298 that is your wrong opinion
@@nedrini1387 what they don't have any great songs? Thats harsh, sorry i'm joking, yeah it's my opinion, but they did lose their way massively on the illusion albums and tours, they became a parody of rock music, much like zeppelin before them.
I love watching Lex channel her inner "Rocker Chick" during guitar solos Makes me smile AND giggle a little every time I see it.
Thank You for making me smile
This song is amazing, it's very intricate and well written, not a normal gnr song but it's very well done
Remember, Axl Rose is the pianist. Classically trained.
NO SHIT SHERLOCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@vinniedixon1140 A lot of people don't realize Axl was their pianist, Sherlock.
How could you forget he’s playing in the video
sorry, but not classically trained - only took lessons as a child, and freely admits that he can only play his own songs on the piano
@@chadphelps5809 Exactly, but Nathan Krush has to inform everyone about it. Would be like someone else saying Duff can also play lead guitar, rhythm guitar, drums, piano & also sing. Oh wait I just did but not gonna tell everyone about it as they probably don't care unlike, Nathan Krush LMFAO
I feel the song is about the anguishes of human life, emotions. This song presents the most powerful emotions in a relationship & marriage, via love & death.
This is a Brad type song. It's deep lyrically and moves you. Glad y'all enjoyed it, it's one of the greatest songs ever written.
This is such an amazing song well put together and engineered. The video kind of puts me off a bit but the song is just another level. Axl and Slash totally kill it in every way.
yessss glad you did this one 💙
Big hit in summer of ‘92 even though it was released in 1991. This song never stopped playing on radios and is a classic. For certain top ten in 90’s easily.
The end rif is so iconic hearing just a few bars you know the name of song instantly.
When I was younger I always thought when everyone jumped over the tables and shit, the bride fell on the cake knife
Mi banda favorita desde siempre y para siempre Guns and roses⚘️😎❤️, los escuche por primera vez cuando tenia 6 años y ahora que tengo 34 años los sigo escuchando, saludos desde Ciudad de México🇲🇽✌️🤩
Great song. I was in my 30s when this came out and was fortunate enough to see them in concert. Greetings from Palm City, Florida.
'Nothing lasts for ever' is the line that I think is the key to this one.
Hearts can change, love can be transient
But in the verses that follow I hear beyond that - nothing lasts for ever 'even cold November rain' - I.e. even the difficult times.
Love, true love . . . Is that love that can hold together in the cold November rain . . . That love that can persist through the times when you're not really sure if you even like the person you've committed yourself to.
But even these bad times don't last forever. If you can see it through . . . 'This too shall pass'.
Remember when this came out how big it was, how big GNR was during that time. I think this was like most expensive video of all time up to this point. Back when MTV actually played music.
I'm so excited to see your reaction to Estranged
Lex is one of the cutest things I've ever seen... right up there with bunny rabbits and baby chicks
She is a beautiful woman!
"when is the song going to start?" 😂 it already has, so enjoy it lol.
To me an intro or outro (or any part of a song regardless of whether the lyrics have started or not) is just as important as the rest of a song
Exactly, thank you. There are classical songs that last for days. Relax, just enjoy a masterpiece of composition. Thank god they didn’t cut a second for the single.
I just commented a few minutes ago on the reaction to 'Jeremy' by Pearl Jam. I am not normally an emotional person.. but both this song/video combo and the Jeremy video/song combo never fail to evoke a response from me. Much respect for both bands and for those who appreciate the artistry and the message it conveys.
I can't wait until you react to ESTRANGED next to finish the trilogy! Slash's best guitar work IMO. 🔥🔥🔥
They reacted to November Rain and Estranged back to back on last night´s live stream.
@@maxis5650 clip?
@@nicoo.csb8 I´m sure it´s coming in the next couple of days
These two together are imho. But this one here, the solo in front of the church and the one on the piano, when 14 year old me saw that back in the day i was like 'yep, thats what i want to do with my life, i need to become a super cool rock star'. Sadly a hat, a cigarette and a guitar were not enough, turns out you need some talent too.
Estranged my favorite gnr song
It's completely weird to me to see people who do not know the songs that are so iconic from this era of rock or metal. November Rain is to me one of the greatest songs ever composed and made in human history. Slash playing that guitar outside the church is probably one of the biggest reasons so many people pick up the guitar. Probably the coolest guitar playing scene ever.
I know I'm a year late and all but... I used to feel the same way until I realized there are songs on YT with a billion views that I've never heard of. GnR hits were probably 15 years before these two were even born so they're probably a lot more knowledgeable of stuff in the past 10 years. Not to mention rock probably isn't a genre they grew up with.
This is my ALL TIME favorite song - thank you for listening to it!!!
EVERYTHING about this song is PERFECTION. Masterpiece!!!
The Illusions Trilogy is based off of a short story by Del James called "Without You". The story is about a musician that deals with his personal demons after losing the love of his life.
PS: you got to react to the song "Breakdown" by GnR an excellent underrated song
please review some: Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Einsturzende Neubauten, My Dying Bride, Anathema, and Fear Factory
The trilogy is based off of the short story "Without You" by Dell James. To fully understand you must read the story. But it's basically
DON'T CRY:
they fail in love but his Rockstar lifestyle, She never trusted him which created a toxic relationship.
NOVEMBRR RAIN:
they decide to get married anyway. She ends up committing suicide because they split up.
ESTRANGED
is his reflection about what happened and represent the death of his old life and rebirth into a better person.
I love how you both love all genres of music and how your bringing back many rock classics for listening pleasure. A comment mentioned how Lex feels every note in the songs. My friend invited me with a free ticket to their concert in the peak of their era. I wasn’t a big fan at the time. I remember How everyone was there to see Metallica but Guns and Roses blew them out of the water with their show.
I’m not a Metallica fan and they performed poorly at this concert.
When this song started Axl was seated at a white piano that rose up to the stage and he was in a white tuxedo. It’s then I realized how talented this band was. I was in aw with the perfection of their music. Before seeing them in concert I had the impression that they were a radical metal band. It as amazing. Axl had a different outfit changing throughout the show. I feel very lucky to have been able to experience the live music of this era and as part of the scene.
While Brad's getting confused by the video, Lex is listening to the music. Haha. So funny...
Yeah, the videos were ridiculous during MTV’s heyday. A lot of them had zero to do with the song, but were just flashy unrelated mini movies. I wish B&L wouldn’t watch videos and would just listen to the music.
I was getting tired of Axl's sh5t by the time this came out.But it is one of my favorite guitar solos.
I always liked that high sweeping shot of Slash in front of the church building. Slash was always a great pop guitarist.
This song has Always❤ given me chills every time I hear it ❤ Axl and the rest of G&R’s are legend
The outro is one of their finest moments.
BTW, Axl's speaking voice sounds nothing like his singing voice. You wouldn't guess that it was the same person.
@Jeffery Anderson No it didn't. Why do you think he's the lead singer of AC/DC and Guns and Roses now? At 58 years old
@@nathankrush3289 Not the lead singer of AC/DC, just filled in for the tour...
So I decided to make a list of my favorite songs of all time that I liked and my #1 song ended up being NOVEMEBER RAIN, both because it's such a beautiful song and because of how much of an impact it had on me growing up as a young adult at the time. I'm sure there are other amazing songs out there but I can safely say that this was my favorite....EVER! What's your favorite song ever? ( Both as a great song and in terms of what the song meant in your life). Keep smiling 🤘🙂
A classic. Lovin’ Lex’s reaction feeling the music in her soul.
I'm with Brad and Guns N Roses is good music 🎵
You guys need to react to Ozzy Ozbourne's No More Tears. It's THREE songs in one.
Yes! It's sooo good!
He worked on the song for 10-15 years. He never thought it was right or ready. (Axl) He nailed this. My favorite song. Slash is the shit. Saw them on September 11th and 12th at the Hardrock AC. About 3 hours straight each night. Worth 300$ each night. Lol
My favorite two quotes this year- "Guns and Roses is good music" & "So fast, She still in her wedding dress." Brad & Lex
The best band ever.
When's it gonna start? I guess you don't like beautiful symphonic arrangements. No patience lol. Just appreciate the music. It's not always all about the lyrics ya know.
One of the most iconic tunes that was around at the time on mtv.!!!! I was 14 when this hit the mtv charts and even many decades has come to past this tune still sounds fantastic !!!!!
One of the best music videos of all time!
This is the song that made me fall in love with the guitar. I was 13 and I'm still playing today.
11:13 is about the worst possible time to pause in this song. You killed the whole buildup. Worse than pausing in the middle of the solo.
That pause hurt my soul.
I never thought "Don't Cry", "November Rain", and "Estraged" was a trilogy, but *shrugs*
And this i love to is 4 no is uno trilogy!
First off the two of you are a joy to watch and hear and being a 60s 70s 80s 90s guy I like it that it's rock whatever type and your spin on whatever it may be whether it's Happy song sad song fast or slow I'll keep watching
It’s a masterpiece, with real musicians, unlike other genres that don’t have any musicianship, whatsoever.
Brad, you gotta go, you pause at all the wrong times
This song always takes me back to my early childhood years. I was exposed to a lot of classics while growing up cause of my older brothers but I remember loving this so much as a 6 year old. As I was growing up my brothers would change their taste in music quite a lot so I remember going from hippy, psychedelic, blues, folk, glam rock, metal to nu metal, grunge, punk, ska, pop punk, rap, hip-hop and so on. Now as a 26 year old adult I literally love every genre of music (even very weird ones) but these classic rock songs give me so much nostalgia.
In mid 80's til around mid 90's, every rock band was trying to out "Power Ballad" every other rock band it seemed. This was the Champion!, everything else was fighting for second.
I also remember when this song came out and it was played on MTV every 5 minutes lol
Sou do Brasil...e adorei o canal de vcs...to fazendo uma maratona...como podem ver amo Guns n Roses....parabéns ao lindo casal!
Slash is a MASTER and really knows how to make that guitar sing!
Slash is such a badass on the guitar.
The reason half the lid of the coffin is closed, it’s because there’s a mirror on the inside of the lid. They do that when someone has facial injuries and the mirror reflects the uninjured side of the face so the person looks normal. Its a super subtle touch to show she didn’t die peacefully and there was trauma involved
Fun fact: its the first song that got 1 billion views on youtube that was also released before youtube was invented (hope that makes sense). Banger.
I absolutely love Slash's solo on this song.
Music videos in the 80s/90s often took themselves VERY seriously and made it like, a mini movie with a whole story and not just, the band performing. And this was a double album that if I recall correctly parts I & II released at different times.
I’m almost jealous of them for hearing November Rain for the first time 😅 or discovering GNR for that matter!
The look of shock on your faces was priceless.
