  • ABBA - When I kissed the teacher (Official Music Video) | REACTION
// ATTENTION! THIS VIDEO WILL BE AVAILIBLE IN HD 1080p WITHIN 60 MINUTES OF UPLOAD! //
This is the FIRST song rom the "ARRIVAL" album that I react to! Let's go!
Featuring Magnus Härenstam, this video was very interesting and controversial! Imagine if this was the case in the year of 2024! (Which it obviously is in some cases). But I wonder if it was different back then, compared to now. Nonetheless, this video was fun to watch, and the song was great! I really liked the bass in this song, and it took of like a rocket!
From the album "ARRIVAL" from 1976.

Yes, the actor playing the teacher's role was Magnus Härenstam. Lyrically and musically, the song is filled with "schoolgirl imagery, and that's it. No one raised an eyebrow at this topic when it was released, and I haven't seen any adverse reactions, even though today, absolutely everything is considered controversial 😒

To the point the makers of the Mamma Mia sequel had to meddle with it and change certain lyrics to make it seem less controversial, even though it wasn't in the first place! Just so stupid!!!

A great catchy song. Lovely harmonies and the wonderful voice of Agnetha. .
I don’t think people thought anything about the subject matter. All those years ago.
It was just seen as a fun song another great tune in ABBA’s repertoire.

I definitely was around when this video was released.
I am a malay and live in Malaysia, a country which society was (and still are) religiously, morally sensitive.
However as far as I could remember, we LOVE this song and this music video appeared a few times on our local tv network back then (as ABBA was, and is still, popular and very much loved in Malaysia) ❤ .
There was definitely no negative sentiment or backlash towards this song or this music video back then and both remain popular and much loved till this day.
We were (and still are) innocent and simple minded enough to love this song and its music video. We definitely perceive it as a fantasy of an innocent crush between a student and a teacher, nothing more, nothing less 😂.
ABBA has always been, and will always be perceived positively and fondly by us in Malaysia and long may that last. We ❤ ABBA 😊

I fully confirm. I was a teenager during those days. Everybody loved this song a lot, for the catchy music and also for the story, because everybody identified with it. Which student, male or female, hasn't had a crush or an attraction with a teacher at school? People were more understanding and less hypocritical in those years.

Nowadays, of course, it would be controversial...😅
In the 70's... that innocent kiss is just a school prank or a passing crush on the teacher... (just a student fantasy).
With students like Agnetha y Frida, of course it's confusing...😍.
    Poor teacher😅.
    Great video, David!... Take care✌️
    Love ❤️ from Chile 🇨🇱🤗👍

    Hello again dear GivenToe !
so nice to see You return with a new reaction to ABBA songs ,
    now in Arrival album (1976)
"When I kissed the teacher" (1976)
this song is very funny, with powerful rhythm and fantastic backvoices
    the unofficial video is very creative, where the blonde singer Agnetha plays her rol so well;
it's one of the most funny videos with ABBA,
like "Take a chance on me" (1978)
    & "Head over heels" (1981)
It also shows that great things can be done with simplicity
    Two details
    1) Agnetha wears the diver number 32 (at that time the famous American baseball player O.J. Simpson used it)
    2) That Agnetha lip bite is one of her trademarks (I don't think she's a tic)
She is very seductive with this, and also with the look in her eyes
"When I kiss the teacher" (1976)
is opening track from "Arrival" album,
a masterpiece album of pop music
    with three worldwide hits like:
    "Dancing Queen", "Money money money"
    & "Knowing me knowing you"
    and another greatest songs like
"My love My life", "That's me", "Tiger"
These video is from the TV special in Sweden (1976)
for a promotion to the new album "Arrival"
that also included two live perfomances:
"Why did it have to be me"
    "Dum dum diddle"
Next track is the biggest ABBA worldwide hit
    Dancing Queen
of course You know the song, and maybe official video
but I think that you could react the live perfomances
at Australia 1977 or London 1979
I wish You a great weekend
    My best regards from
    Buenos Aires ( Argentina 🇦🇷 )
    South America

Oh my bro!!!! I'm so happy because finally you starded to react a new era of ABBA song's, as you said. I have this vynil album, I love all the songs and this special one I particulary love it because I remember I heard it for the very first time when I probably was 9 or 10. The very first time I heard an ABBA song I was 9 years old. I know exackly which song was (don't tell you now which was because you still didn't reacted to it). I remember I was stucked to the TV screen watching the video of that song. It was a black & white screen TV and when I listen the song I immediatly love it. So the song "When I kissed the teacher" is a great one, a great ABBA hit and for me one of the bests of them. It is in my ABBA top 20, for sure. Thank you my bro for remind me so good childwood's memories.

Rutger (bassplayer) shines on this one. Splendid track. I wonder if they used 12-string acoustic guitars. I like the sound.
And at least, Magnus got a little kiss by Agnetha. 😅
In 1976 I was 5 y/o and my kindergarden teachers played nothing but ABBA. I know these songs by heart.

I love seeing your face when you react to these amazing ABBA songs!! I have loved ABBA since I was 7 years old and now I am 54. I guess that Arrival is my favourite album...... But I love all songs from ABBA. When it came out , I was very young, so I just listened to it, but I have never been aware of anyone saying something negative about the topic of the song.

    ABBAMAMN.
One of my favorite tracks from arrival. When this album came out back then the song was never a single especially in the US but they did make several videos for album tracks. so it wasn't until many years later when I saw the video on RUclips. I think you can realize that ABBA has indeed stepped on the accelerator and moved into the Abba sound that we all know and love. So from here on out Tighten your seatbelt!😊

It was sooo good seeing this video!
As l recall, at the time, there was no controversy about the subject matter and if there was it wasn't on my radar anyway! The radio stations played it continuously as they did, every single time that Abba released a new single.( No complaints here!!😁)
The song was accepted as a happy, "Toe" tapping tune..
    No negative connotation at all!
In that era, there were alot of songs, with what are deemed now, to be 🤔🤤 such as ' Love to love you baby', 'Centrefold',
'Do you think I'm Sexy' etc...Literature, old sitcoms have all been reviewed and have failed or passed judgement.. We have to remember that was another era of perspective..Some harmless and some very serious. Too much for comment? 😁 You know me by now bello!
Ciao and thankyou for your reactions and smile! 🤗❤🦋

So excited that we're moving into the Arrival era... such a special album. I'm old enough to remember this video on TV... definitely the official video we saw, even though I don't think When I Kissed the Teacher was a single as such. The sound of those guitars strumming in the opening seconds still makes me so excited. Keen to hear your thoughts on the whole album, GivenToe. Thanks as always for sharing your reaction. Ignore the now-iffy subject matter... this song is an amazing opener to the album.

I love this song, it's pure ABBA pop, it's energy and good vibes with a good production and heavenly voices. It's perfect.
It's very common to fall in love with a teacher, isn't it?
It's fun to see them act like teeanagers, like Olivia in Grease....they were not so young.
It should have been a single! ❤

I was surprised when I began my deep dive into Abba last year, how many videos I'd never seen. They were somewhat pioneers in the 70s for making so many, I think. Iffy or not, this is a good song and deserves more plays. I think the innocent vibe helps them to get away with the subject matter.

Well GT I was teen of age 14 when the Arrival album hit record stores, got my copy and always thought this song was fun with a rocking melody. During this era the subject matter was seen as a cute naïve thing.....I certainly had a schoolboy crush on a couple of my teachers, mildly. However certainly today this would not fly ! Ironic isn't it how some things are acceptable today in the world that in that era would not be and vice versa.

The video clip was made for ABBA's 1976 Swedish TV special 'ABBADABADOO'. There's also a Lip synched peformance from their 'In Poland ~ Studio 2' TV special also from 1976. Pleased you're back on ABBA track, hoping you'll react to the four members appearing together at the Voyage Premiere in 2022, its pretty special in an emotional way. I love the bouncy 'When I Kissed The Teacher' and 'Arrival' is one of my favourite ABBA albums. This track was used in the 2018 'Mamma Mia ~ Here I Go Again' Movie. The song really wasn't controversial in the '70's and neither was the equally lyrically wacky 'Does your Mother Know' or 'Two For The Price Of One'. It was tongue~in~cheek humour back then.

When this came out, there was no negative reaction at all, only appreciation for the quality of the music. The seventies was a much more innocent/naive era in many ways, and this infectious nod to the 60s girlband sound should be taken much more in the spirit of a school girl crush....kinds now see themselves as adults almost before they hit double figures, back then we were kids even as teenagers. Pure pop, noting sinister in the context of its day.

There are tons of Abba videos, not few.
There was no controversy at the time.
It was just viewed as the old trope of the student with a crush on a teacher with stolen peck on the cheek.
Back then it was not viewed as the student automatically jumping in the sack with the teacher the next day.
Just a silly kiss in a moment and that was it.

I just love how uncomfortable and conflicted you are by this, it's so funny. It really shows just how prudish society has become in the last 20 years or so. I was around when it came out and remember singing it at the top of my voice in the car. It was funny, silly, flirtatious. And yes, adults understood the connotations of it, but they also understood that a schoolgirl having a crush on her teacher was completely normal and something that happens all the time.
There are other ABBA songs that would probably also have similar reactions if they were made today - Does Your Mother Know and Two For The Price Of One spring to mind.

I don't remember there being any controversy. That was back when we were all young and naive. I had a terrible crush on my eighth grade science teacher, but since he was a guy and I was a guy, I would never have thought of kissing him. This was 1969. 😂

We watched the video and saw 4 adults in school, and one of them fell in love with the teacher.

Controversial in 2024? well, maybe but in 1976, not really - having a crush on the teacher is a common thing. It was an album track, not a single (in UK at least) so it wasn't very well known and didn't get any adverse reactions as I remember. If it had been called When The Teacher Kissed Me - hell yeah, that would have created a firestorm!

Ha ha ABBAs most controversial song😅! And no, at the time I can't remember it was controversial. Just fun. But today it's crazy.

That's certainly different than anything I expected from ABBA. Having said that, I'd like to officially volunteer to be that teacher, but, only for the kissing scenes.

I was 15 when this song and this video came out. Saw it lots on tv. Loved it immediately. Abba took a big stride in development by the end of 1975 and this album is proof of that. And no, i dont remember any controverse about it in The Netherlands. I mean, he did nothing wrong and she just gave him a peck on the cheek. It was just funny, this nerdy man didnt know what happened.

It was in one of the Mamma Mia films. I don't recall it being controversial even recently. I think it is probably OK (ie merits no more than detention) for a female student to kiss a teacher but NOT for it to be reciprocated!

A girl was madly in love with me, but for some reason I just couldn’t get the hots for her despite being best friends in 99-00-01 til she finally found a boyfriend who desired her which she deserved and had no trouble finding. I think it might have been since she had brown hair. Long blond hair like Agnatha hair might have done the trick for her. Now. I am no Casanova, so this is not a bragging thing, just odd since Agnatha is my dream girl and my friend looked so much like her. As for the song. Lots of songs from the 70s&80s had lyrics not appropriate for damned cancel culture 2024. The Police song for example is really crude. Don’t stand so close to me. Lots of things hinting towards sex between the student and young teacher who lusts after student and brings her wet young body into his warm dry car etc,

The only one who's making this controversial is you and your shamefull thoughts. Are you really a grown man or just having a juvenile sense of humour. I'm not laughing. Great song though.
