I love making miniaturized versions of quilts. It can be a great way to try out a design with all the challenge and enjoyment, but without taking out a second mortgage on the house with today's fabric prices.

This is incredible! What a beautiful little piece! This would make a nice rug mug on a desk. With all the bulk, it would be very absorbent. Thanks for sharing this!

It's funny you mention the mug rug idea... as I was thinking about what to do with it and whether to quilt and bind it, I actually thought about that type of usage but was concerned about the bulk making it thicker on one side and therefore uneven. I hadn't thought about the bulk making it more absorbent! Thanks for the suggestion.

I also have a 1941 Featherweight. It's awesome when sewing curves. I use a 1938 201 to attach binding to quilts. My go-to for piecing is a 1962 Rocketeer. I enjoy creating with older machines.

      Nice! I love my 1941. I also like 301s, but I've not used a 201.

You have made a lovely little bargello! I would highly recommend a 1/8th inch seam allowance though. You can either sew at the 1/8 inch or sew 1/4 inch and trim it back. The 1/8 inch seam allowance is pretty standard for mini quilts.

I appreciate that. Partway in, I was thinking about trying a 1/8” seam allowance next time, but wanted to give it a try before suggesting it.

Great idea… it’s too dense for most quilt applications but could work well for a bag.

I bought my used Singer 221 while I was in the Army (1966-1969). It fit inside my wall locker. It has always been a handy little sewing machine. I still have and use that hard working little machine: and, l also own other sewing machines.

Wonderful! It’s great that you still have and use it. They will outlast us all, for sure.

You microscopic seam matching is superlative, and the darker border really helps unify the composition.
It seems to me that the one pitfall of working with such small batik fabric is that the color relationships get a bit muddled, because there’s not a large enough chunk of the fabric to highlight the base color. This is either a challenge or an opportunity, based on your intended outcome.

You are 100% correct about the batik issue, and I’m glad you mentioned it. I realized after recording (so it didn’t make it into the video) that the scale of the prints relative to the pieces are making rows of the same print appear as slightly different prints. Great observation and thanks for sharing it.

I find it much easier to sew a 1/4" seam and then cut it back to be 1/8" in my miniature quilts.

That's a great suggestion! Thank you, and I'll keep that idea in mind next time I go extra-small.
