  • Experiencing the world from her wheelchair provides a perspective for Jen Dearaujo that is both challenging and rich. Raised in New Bedford Massachusetts, Jennifer Dearaujo is the youngest of two girls. Born with spina bifida she is no stranger to facing adversity. In 2003 she graduated from New Bedford high school and from there went on to study at Bristol community college. Along the way she has fought through many obstacles but has never let it defeat her. Currently she is the salon coordinator at one of the most successful salons in the south coast the Wash House Salon. Married for three years Jennifer and her husband enjoy traveling and spending time with their lovable puppy Pippa. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

I have spina bifida and have been driving since I was 19 without hand controls, I’ve been walking since I was 4 with AFO’s, I played wheelchair sports for 10 years, 40+ surgeries. My grandpa taught me there is no such thing as can’t.
