    That shredder your mom was using swallowed that huge piece of cardboard no sweat 👍🏻 I especially like all the large-chunk cardboard tubes and spoiled paper products going in the way they do, whole. Great check-in - and nice haul of castings

      @Vermicompost  5 месяцев назад +2

      Thanks AV! That shredder is legit! Best gift I ever bought her; now she shreds all the cardboard instead of bringing it to me whole & filling up my garage. I was pretty excited to see how well they did with all the tubes and paper towels over time...and without me misting it! Just goes to show our worms hardly need us! Thanks for taking the time to watch & comment!!🪱🪱🪱

    An Idea to loosen the castings from the sides of the bin. Attach a 2" plastic paint scraper to some type of handle long enough to get to the bottom of the bag, and just run it along the inside of the bag, might work.
    Nice continuous flow of black gold, awesome harvest.
    I gave two plantings of garlic a healthy top dressing of worm castings a few weeks ago, one planting I did not. The ones that got the worm castings are at least 3" taller, BOOM.
    Looks like your shoulders mobility is pretty darn good, will take a bit of time to get back to full strength.
    In the process of harvesting one of the 50 gal grow bags. Super lazy method, actually, I just removed the bubble wrap and left them alone for about 3 weeks now. As the castings dry they are going deeper in the bag, will post a video.
    This time of year with keeping everything alive in the grow room and springtime garden projects, the worms are on autopilot. I actually gave the bins some fresh garden comfrey the other day.
    Good you pointed out the number of worms in your bin to handle that huge feeding.
    Stay Well!!!

    • @Vermicompost
      @Vermicompost  5 месяцев назад

      Hi Brian, That is a great idea to get the castings off the sides! That's pretty great results with your garlic. I love a good super lazy method of harvesting!!! Sounds like a slow version of the agitation method. Comfrey processed through worms has to make for superb castings!! The shoulder is going ok, even though It looked like I could move it well, I'm in constant pain & like you said, no strength. They said full recovery is a year, so I should be happy with my 2 1/2 month progress but I am pretty active so I'm still frustrated...but enough complaining!! Thanks so much for watching Brian!!🪱🪱🪱

    Hi Patrick and Autumn, good to see you back 😀Those worms have done a great job in the UWB. Good amount of castings for the garden. Nice to see your marine tank. I used to lose hours looking at the hard and soft corals and watching all the fish and critters in my tanks. Have fun, Mark : )

      😂🤣😂 Yes!! Soooo many hours lost staring into that Aquarium!! That one is mostly corals with a clown and mandarin fish. We have another smaller saltwater tank with 4 fish and an anemone.....And we have a 35 gallon fresh water tank...that's what happens when you raise a Marine Biologist for a son! The worms did great in my absence! I was really impressed with how much castings were left & how little bedding compared to what I put in! Thanks so much for watching Mark!!🪱🪱🪱

      Thank you Ron!! After this pathetic try at a harvest I think I need to get it off the ground like you said. Thanks for the idea & thanks so much for watching!!🪱🪱🪱

    Those worms look pretty chunky for being on foraging since your surgery…. Hopefully the castings you have got out have more microbes over all, as I’ve red that the more they are processed the higher amount of poop and less vermicast…. So overall better for the garden. So I have been told.

    • @Vermicompost
      @Vermicompost  5 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, I was pretty impressed with how good they looked after more than 2 months! After the initial inch or so of dry castings the rest seemed nice and moist and very processed! You are correct, my garden is going to love them! Thanks so much for watching Cheryl!!🪱🪱🪱

    Do you get any leachate at the bottom of your worm bag after your feedings?

    • @Vermicompost
      @Vermicompost  5 месяцев назад +1

      I haven't in a while. When the bin was new and I was trying to keep the bedding moist, I used to mist it and I'd occasionally see some liquid down there. But now I just use the food scraps to keep the bin moist. I think the fact that there is a lot of worm castings in it now that the bin has aged and since I don't add any more moisture, I'm able to prevent moisture from leaking out. We are in the Tampa Florida area so it is always pretty humid outside. If I was in Oklahoma or Texas I'd have to mist & I still wouldn't get liquid in the bottom. Of course that is my goal, to keep it dry down there. But if you like to collect leachate, misting and using damp bedding will get you in that direction for sure! Thanks so much for watching!!🪱🪱🪱
