Cool it now was a number 4 pop hit back in 1984! Also, it was early days for rapping on a pop song so they were ahead of the curve, musically speaking.

I'm a month late on this lol...but New Edition is my second favorite group ever...they paved the way for boy band groups today...no New Edition, no New Kids On The Block, No Backstreet Boys, No Boyz To Men, no BTS, NSync, no one...these five started it all...and they just got got done touring a couple of weeks ago and they sound better than ever, especially Bobby Brown...even though he has put on some weight lol..I'm just glad he is still here with us..I think their biggest hit is probably Can You Stand The Rain...they did that with Johnny Gill in the group...but they are icons..
Bobby sounds a damn mess live and looks a mess also. Stop with the fiction. He can't even keep up with the others. Miss me with the sad he had a hard life crap. He MADE his own life and others lives a living hell.
Nice reaction! They were one of the first groups (UTFO, Force MDs, Whistle) in the 1980s to mix R&B with rapping on songs. BBD blew up that concept with their 1990 Poison album.
A more mature sounding NE song/video that y'all should react to one day is: New Edition - One More Day or Boys To Men.

This group also spawned Bell Biv Devoe, which were famous for the song Poison. Bobby Brown solo, Johnny Gill solo, Ralph Tesvant solo. As well as Mike Bivins finding and producing Boyz ll Men and Another Bad Creation
Throw me back! The New Edition won second place in a Boston talent show and caught the eyes of a local producer looking to recreate a “Jackson 5” type of group. (Can’t find who won 1st-great trivia question!) Their success would bear an onslaught of production-rich, mediocre 80-90s boy bands. Bivins and Bell regularly handled the rap breakdown. I think their backing vocals were buried in the mix too.
One thing to note, re: boy bands. BTS is an exception. No matter how much I try to deny them, they're a stellar group. They have meaningful songs, many with storylines, have great videos, and are always on point.

Hard to believe for me that this was 39 years ago. These guys started out at the age of 12-13 years old! I love this group so much! I am 53 so I am partial to this anyway. These are THE original line-up. Why do you guys keep saying weird stuff about Bobby not being with them at the beginning? You should watch the tv movie about their life and the one about Bobby Brown's life. You'd learn a lot more about them.
