I lived near Hearst . Kapuskasing On. There's many places up north to catch specks but Sutton river is King for big huge mice snaking trout . Beautiful char . Great video and I now have to make mice .
Thirty years ago fishing a small creek in Montana I landed a huge (for the creek) 14" brookie. Protruding from its maw was a snake like tail. It was a mouse. It changed my thinking and resulted in many explosive surface takes from many trout species. I love it.
THAT REEL! good lord! why does it have to click so damn loud? Does every MFer on a river need to hear you reeling in line? there is no purpose or reason for that crap
That's great top water action Really awsome I was a river guide for Dave Duncan and sons in SW Alaska for summers 2006-12, the mouse for giant leopard rainbows was my favorite thing to do up there. Chosen and goodnews rivers, best trout fishing i have ever done. And i have lived in Montana for most of my life. Great video
Hi Guys, could you tell us the name of that topwater Pike fly that you said Brad Bowen created (with the black foam block head)? I thought you had said ‘swing hips’ on the video but I can’t find any record of it anywhere. It also looks like a fly that you had called a quarter chicken a couple of years back in another quick episode. Thanks For all the great videos though… It’s really helping out during these long days!
Brad changed the name to "Thunder Chicken". The 1/4 chicken dinner is the other fly. Two other patterns we've had successful with is Stu Thompson's "Weedmans Slider" which is an excellent topwater fly for pike and musky, especially in black, black/orange and chartreuse. The other is large Murdich Minnows in white/red, perch pattern and tan/white. The key is to have a "rattle" tied to the shank of the hook which helps the fly be heard by predators. Hope this helps
The New Fly Fisher Thanks so much! However, I can’t seem to find an image or a video for either of those names… Do you think you guys could post a link or a tying video?
21:02 That doesn't look like a rainbow but then I spent most of my life fishing the Sierra Nevada Mountains and a fish that size is rare for a Rainbow but not a Brown. Awesome white tips on the fins, remind me of the Brook Trout I used to catch. Awesome Video, thanks for sharing! Was absolutely beautiful!
Deary me, I think that all this quality fishing and beautiful scenery is like heaven... Absolutely NOTHING like throwing a fly, or a mouse!! If I ever come into a lottery win, I will do this kind of wonderful adventure fishing no doubt. Definitely a bucket list item for me to do!! Professional Guided fishing, world class fishing, geez what else can one want!! A wonderful video my friend :-) Yes, conditions were perfect it appears!
I hope you don't mind my asking but what weight/ action rod and reel are you using? Great video, awesome fish, thanks so much for sharing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great video, those little mice also work plenty of places other than Canada. Both Rainbows and Browns eat them just like Bass do. Rebel lures make small barbless hard body Pop-R baits that cast easier than big deer hair flies and last much longer. There is simply a ton of small minnows, soft body frogs and micro hard baits you can cast fine on an 8-weight or larger fly rod that simply work. If you ever tied deer hair much you will quickly realize they take a long time to make and deer hair is messy to use. I understand using natural materials is the traditional method however, I see no reason not to use lures that last longer and work the same. The same big brown you see sipping tiny mayflies will also crush a mouse. There is certainly no mistake when you get a strike. You proved that, I laughed every time one those big trout smashed your mouse because of the shocking sounds coming from your voice. One thing I know, Trout don’t care if the lure is made of wood, plastic, hair or feathers but you are the only one that might.
Totally agree with everything you have stated. My favourite mouse pattern is now made of foam and it has caught some nice browns, especially towards dark! Thanks again for the great feedback
Fly tying is at least 70% of the fishing .... most tyers don't care what fish do to their flies ... you can always make more. I hope I never have to use the things you talk about .... that would mean my fishing days are over. Just my two cents worth.
I would recommend a five or six weight rod with a floating line (WF) matched to a nine foot leader. The trout were not leader shy so used 10 pound tippet or better. Thanks
Good question, right now it is $4500 Canadian to fly to the sutton and take a canoe trip down the river. It is a 3 hour or so flight from Hearst. Many people drive to Hearst, stay overnight, then fly-in to the river. You bring your own food and gear, the trip is either seven days or ten days...same price for both. You have 70 miles of river to canoe. Call Melanie with Hearst Air and she can tell you more. They are fully booked for 2020 but they may have room in 2021. They limit how many people can go down the river. Hope this helps!
@@newflyfisher it absolutely helps, thank you very much, I like the idea of still being self reliant but getting to one of these amazing locations sounds like 2021 brook trout is in my future!
What actually were the Brook Trout feeding on in the Sutton River, Water Shrew, Voles, Salamanders or Mice?? Please ask your guides for the correct answer. Thank you.
There is actually many mice in the region (sub-arctic tundra) and the trout are used to eating them. But like anywhere, there is also hatches, baitfish, and much more they eat.
Watching how Colin handles the fish after netting is a reflection on how much he cares for the individual fish and overall resource.

Wow, I knew Browns could go nocturnal and rodent consuming on some rivers, but Brookies?
Nice fish handling looks like a blast!!! 👌🏻👍🏻🇨🇦
That's great top water action

I have to ask the obvious question....are these not Searun Brookies? They sure look like it.
Carl, there is sea run brook trout farther down river but those are resident seen in this video
"That's insane! That is totally insane!"
I couldn't agree more. I would die to do some brook trout fishing on a mouse pattern. Awesome!!

It's not a rainbow. Mistake by the angler. Probably pretty stoked to catch a massive brook trout haha. Great fish
It's definitely a brookie ... just a slip of the tongue in the excitement I think :-)
It’s really hard to find good content like this, just subbed and turned the bell on!!🎣

Wonderful fish in some magnificent places! Thanks so much!
There is nothing like catching 25 plus 18-24 inch brook trout a day for 10 days on top water mice. Get there if you can its a trip you wont regret
a better tehnic of fishing my uncle, it always success
WOW! Great video.
topwater for life.. in every aspect possible. I run topwater as much as I can
Just Brook Trout take mice??...Browns & Rainbows as well?
Yes, all trout will eat a mouse!
I hope you don't mind my asking but what weight/ action rod and reel are you using? Great video, awesome fish, thanks so much for sharing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No problem 👍, it was a six weight orvis helios rod and islander IR 4 reel
@@newflyfisher I can’t turn over a mouse without my 8 weight. Jealous would love to use my 6.
Keep up the good fishing. Thank you for the program.
The pictures shown are not mice, they are volls
Thanks, appreciate your feedback
SOLID ADVICE AND FOOTAGE!! THANKS A MILLION!
Way too expensive for what you get. Seriously, $4200/person just for the use of a canoe and the flight in/out of the lake??!! Not a chance!

@@newflyfisher Trout hate Meese’s to pieces more than Mr. Jink’s the cat does, and that’s no lie.

шикарные места ..а рыбалка - просто мечта! спасибо..
thank you
Great video as always! What rod wt. we’re you using for the Brookies? And what fly line? Sorry if it was mentioned at some point in the video!

Those mouse patterns are deadly at night for browns in PA.
We have heard this from many anglers. Fun way of finding out just how big the brown trout are in your favourite stream or river! Thanks for feedback
Bass bugging for trout.
Great❣️
How much does a trip like that cost? If a guy had 3000$...minus air fair could it be done? Amazing video, thank you
