well, you mentioned you'll have an Ibanez blindfold challenge in the future. I will look forward to it as far as price range is concerned, I suppose you will more or less look at the following lines: 1. the GIO range - entry level; made in Indonesia 2. 'standard' - still Indonesian made; a good example is the RG that you featured in the cheap guitar shootout a few years back, the one with really good pickups according to chappers 3. premium - top of the line Indonesian made (still; hehe) 4. prestige - top of the line made in Japan not sure how to squeeze Chinese made Ibanez guitars in this blindfold challenge since it's rare these days. the only one I can think of is the red Fireman Paul Gilbert signature axe oh well, just sharing my thoughts. more power! =)
hahahaha he probably won't notice. the ESP range especially is remarkably close together, as are some others... also every guitar is an individual to a noticeable level anyway. That'll confuse the crap out of him.
***** What complete bullshit. You JUST HEARD those EMGs pull off some great sound, stop listening to what the internet tells you to think and use your own ears.
Do a blind strings challenge cause these damn string manufacturing companies always make you feel biased with silly terms and names on their covers. But really, which strings play best, fastest, smoother, brighter, bendier? I'd love a Rob perspective on that.
Rob is an endorsee of D'addario strings, and I suspect they might not be too happy with a video like that... Unless D'addario were to 'win' in the video, in which case a lot of people would claim that Rob is biased. It's a shame, because I'd like to see that video too.
I think that really comes down to personal preference. Some players like all 6 coated strings, others like 3 coated, 3 bare. Some bend easier than others and some stay tighter. All preference pretty much
I'm pretty sure Chappers made a video about different types of strings already, actually I think it was more about different size string guages. It's a video that doesn't have Captain in it. I think he uses an old green explorer in the video.
Elixir are the best strings I have ever played and they last literally forever, they sound like brand new strings for months, but they’re also twice the price of other strings.
joshua3113 It depends. The 1000 series are killer for the money but I wouldn't take anything below that. But then again I'm an ESP Japan guy so I'm a little spoiled in that sense.
Riffin' Remmy I just picked up an ec1000 in lightly used condition for a steal of a price. It feels and plays excellent. I can't believe the level of quality and features for the money. Excellent value and it really blurs the line between low end ESP and high end LTD That said, even the lower end LTDs are a great value. I had a kh202 that played and sounded great for the money. The one major negative was the horrible quality of the licensed Floyd rose. After a few years it couldn't hold a string to save its life. But a set of 81s in it made it sound and play no different from the higher end LTD M shapes.
@@101fng I have LTD EC-1000 and i gotta say it feels like really expensive guitar and sounds incredible. I just played Gibson standard and traditional in guitar store. I really think that mine LTD has better build quality. It just feels very solid.
Just got my Ltd GH-600. Thing is a beast. Didn’t think it would be worth a shit for clean playing because of the active EMG Gary Holt pickups. But the built in coil splitter really cleaned up the sound incredibly well and gave it an almost acoustic sound. I was shocked. Great freaking guitars. Even the entry level guitars are nice for beginners. Better than the Hondo les Paul copy I had back in the day. Although I wish I still had it. 😢 nice video.
This concept is actually really awesome. Gives more of an educated opinion without the bias of names. Someone who is as knowledgeable in the realm of guitaristry as Chappers and the Capt, (along with every other guest you guys have had) also leaves an impression on younger musicians. Teaches 'em that how much you spend isn't always a direct correlation to quality
I love this format!!! For someone who's says how hard it is to play blindfolded, ole chappers is pretty amazing!! Super fun idea and I love how both of you really get excited about it!! Also I think it shows us beginners out there that even $250 buys a decent guitar!! You don't really need $1000 plus but if ya got it to spend. . . . .?
I really like this format of video and have been looking at ESPs, which is how I came upon this one. Well done! It has actually made me lean more towards the 401 than the 1000, especially if I can find a Korean one.
Cap'n, I see you are modelling the t-shirt wot I have recently per-chased from fretshirt. I can see how wonderous it looks, just awaiting delivery, and I shall be introducing a whole new level of cool to the sud de France.
I like this kind of video because it shows exactly what you're paying for in terms of playability, tone and feel - at some point you're not paying for fit and finish, but for the looks of the guitar or the name on the headstock.
Obviously Rob thinks the cheapest one sounded the best which leads me to say that pickups affect sound and matter more than any other aspect. Playability seems to be Korea is the big winner. Take that or leave it but I'm not going to pay more for a MIJ tag ever. Best blind test yet :)
The wood in the cheap guitars are not so good, and that is what you are paying also. My friend have sanded some korean and chinese made guitars, and what you can find under all the paint, sometimes can be awful as hell!.
Just watch some videos of Andy James, were he plays a Korean LTD EC-1000 Deluxe Series,I'm sure the guy can afford the ''real'' MIJ ESP's,instead he chooses the LTD's.My advice, get a LTD Deluxe Series, they have great quality of build/materials and the pickups/hardware are also excellent, hell the EC-1000 T(traditional) models come with full thickness mahagony bodies/ebony fretboards, not even the american Gibson Les/Paul's have these features anymore.
Sorry but endorsement is a business, is not about how great a guitar is!. Matthias Jabs from Gibson to Cort, having owning both brands, I don't think Cort is a better instrument!.
The Eternal Don't be fooled by the fact, that the LTD Deluxe series is made in Korea, these are not the cheapo Cort's,these are high quality instruments.Craftmanship is on par with MIJ,also electronics(most have EMG's or S.Duncans/DiMarzios like the MIJ's),only the woods aren't super-exotic and they don't have the expensive hardware, like the MIJ's.For example, compare the Rob Caggiano sig. models. There's a MIJ and a LTD Deluxe version.Difference:the MIJ,has a super-exotic Swamp-Ash body(this type of tree is now under protection and isn't allowed to be cut anymore),AAA top and Sperzel tuners. The LTD has a body made of normal Ash,normal top and ESP tuners.Pickups(DiMarzios),fretboard, frets etc. are the same. There are plenty of professional musicians who use LTD Deluxe Series on live gigs, because of their great playabillity and tuning stabillity.
***** Sorry but I used to have 2 EC-1000 and those guitars are not even close to the 2 ESP Eclipses Standard that I have (talking about craftsmanship), and those ESP Standard are not even close to the real deal, my ESP MA CTM-QM (even the sound). For the record, I'm consider myself a fussy fault-finding because of my ex-quality control work. The LTD Deluxe series are good guitars, but not great guitars in my opinion. I prefer an instrument made in Indonesia (Spear for example), rather than one made in Korea. The prices of the Korean guitars are rising and the quality don't ( just the aesthetics), in the other hand the Indonesian guitars have a realistic price. I used to buy-sell guitars, so my opinion is according to that experience and my own policy of giving honest information to my customers . I understand and I'm aware that the people will defend what their pocket can afford, I've been in that position. What matters is whether you are happy with the guitar you have and that a good guitarist can make any guitar sounds great, even the cheapest one! :)
I own a lot of guitars (from ESP, PRS, Gibson, Fender) and the first guitar I ever bought, a LTD MH400NT is still my favorite. I've gotten so many compliments from other guitarist who have played it during sessions that it's an amazing guitar so I think it's just a testament to ESP and how well they make their products.
I like this format of video. I also think it is great that you're choosing to be fair about the whole thing. Now that the affordable PRS's are in full circulation, it would be great to see a shoot out!
I like this format of video too! Glad Rob doesn't go off hardware and bases it purely on feel, playability and tone. Those passives in the 100 sounded great, personally preferred them to any of the EMG's in that test.
Glad you guys are enjoying this type of video - I'm sure amps & pedals will get included soon! Cheers, Lee
I'd be interested in a blind test of tube preamp gain vs pedal gain.
well, you mentioned you'll have an Ibanez blindfold challenge in the future. I will look forward to it

oh well, just sharing my thoughts. more power! =)
These videos are cool, but you should give chappers 2 of the same guitar/piece of equipment without telling him and see if he notices
hahahaha he probably won't notice. the ESP range especially is remarkably close together, as are some others... also every guitar is an individual to a noticeable level anyway. That'll confuse the crap out of him.
We need a PRS blindfold test.
I love this format of video, looking forward to the Jackson one. I love me some jackson.
Jackson have some of the nicest necks in the business but they are all alder and basswood no mahogany guitars unless you go custom shop
NinjaTuna81 the necks on my Jacksons are Maple necks with Rosewood fingerboards. The Body is Alder though,
I don't like jackson necks to be honest. They are just too thin for me but not to say that they are bad quality it's just my personal taste.
NinjaTuna81 My $100 Dinky is mahogany bodied. I know cause I sanded a whole bunch of paint off it
I agree with the first comment but not with a playable Jackson. A half fender body / half ibanez neck monstrosity transginger Jackson.
All blindfold-tests have been awesome. Keep 'em coming!
"it's so hard to play with a blindfold on!" *proceeds to shred like a god including pinch harmonics*
I can't wait for the blindfolded Jackson challenge.
I really like ESP/LTD guitars. Looking forward to bringing them on later this year!
i like this format of video
Great duo indeed!
EMGs and the Silverback sound surprisingly Awesome ! :D
Probably just the Silverback to be honest... what a beast of an amp.
Danny Peel Everything in the victory range is beastly!
Danny Peel EMG's sound great too.
***** So all of the tones in the video Rob had were bad I assume? And not all EMG's are active, but i'm sure you didn't know that.
***** What complete bullshit. You JUST HEARD those EMGs pull off some great sound, stop listening to what the internet tells you to think and use your own ears.
I like this format of video. Thanks Rob and Cap.

makcheekan you are right on this one, never really thought of it in this way, but hey!...there is always Lee around and he might be up for it.
I'm pretty sure Chappers made a video about different types of strings already, actually I think it was more about different size string guages. It's a video that doesn't have Captain in it. I think he uses an old green explorer in the video.

Yes, more please! I really like this format!
Love this format of video. I love watching these
I LOVE this format of a video!
I love your shootouts. Very helpful in choosing the right model on price / features etc...
I bought a new EC1000 a few months ago, and is my favorite in my collection... absolutely amazing.
please do more of theseeeee! I love these
Yay!! I have been hoping you guys would do this with ESPs!!!
Great stuff guys...love the vids! Good info!
Love this segment! Goes to show that we buy with our eyes! Logically the most expensive guitar should always be best. Andertons Mythbusters!
Most interesting type of videos you do.
Videos with guitars in center of attention are the best.
Great test! I thoroughly enjoy your videos and humor. Keep up the good work.
I like this format of video! You guys do an awesome job, keep it up-
I love these types of videos. They're unbiased and show a true representation of what the guitars sound, feel and play like. Great job, boys!!!
The quality of the LTD line coming out to shine in this video... Yes, I'm picking up an LTD this week. Lol.

I like this format of video! So much fun in just 25 minutes!!!
Love the format. Looking forward to the Jackson and Ibanez episodes.
I had an Esp Ltd Ec-401 ones! AWESOME GUITAR!
I love the way those play so much!
I like this format of video very much!! Awesome job as usual by the dream team!
I'd like to see on of these with explorers
this dispels the emg myth, people claim that they make all guitars sound the same, but all three of those emg loaded guitars sounded different
