Great video, thanks. Question..... Does the G9 implement the internal teleconverter that the GH5 has? Not sure if I've worded that correctly, but with the GH5 you are able to do video using the full sensor, or, if you desire, there is the ability to choose to film with the sensor cropped. This, in effect, gives you additional focal range as you are punched into a fraction of the complete sensor. I've been using a GH5 for a couple of years, but it has died on me, and with these firmware updates on the G9 (I mostly shoot video in HD 120FPS) I'm thinking the G9 may be a better replacement than another GH5. Thanks.

Still learning about my GH5 ... Happy I made the investment... faster Focus would be nice & the nighttime screen sounds helpful.... esp in low light ... Thank you Joseph...
Excellent updates. Panasonic is doing a great job. G9 got a loot better indeed, but the purpose of the GH5 and the G9 is still very different even after the update - GH5 will never do still pics as the G9 and the g9 will never (unless they change in the next update) do videos as the GH5 - Unlimited recording, C4K time and the 10-bit 400Mbs are the deal breakers for filmmakers
Great overview of all the updates! Very excited about the new video features coming to the G9. I bought it over the GH5 because of the large price difference at the time and having a nice balance between photo and video functions. However, I always wanted more video features, especially Vlog support.
Thanks PhotoJoseph, no need to look everywhere to understand this huge update, you synthesised it in a way it's impossible to not understand ! Because of you, "now it's getting more and more difficult to be a bad photographer"
That's a great feature Olympus has. I don't know why it isn't in Panasonic cameras. I would suggest asking for it as much as possible. Even call into the Panasonic help center and ask for it. The more they hear about it, the more likely they will be to add it. Thanks!
Sir, thank you for this video and thank you Panasonic for these changes to the G9. I currently have a G9 and was looking to add a 2nd camera for my business that allowed me to shoot video in V-log L. I literally have a GH5 sitting in my Amazon cart that I was going to purchase this weekend. After watching this, I don't have to get the GH5. I wish the limited recording was lifted off of the G9 but that is more of a want and hasn't become a need yet. This is AWESOME news!
@@socialbombers4017 Which do you plan to do more of? If you take pictures more than video, get the G9. If you do video more than photo, get the GH5. I'm a photographer first so I got the G9.
@@mikedionr Thanks broth . I Love make video and take photos yesterday I buy GH5 In Amazon it was in discount for 1034 euro with kit len so cool .Because my first option was G9 but went I watched this price I buyed hahaha .You can help me choose any angle len but I don't expensive a lot?🏋
Thank you for the detailed update! I don't think there's anything in this update that really helps the GH5, for how I use it at least, but it's good to know Panasonic still cares!
As a long time Panasonic user and current gh4 and GH5s owner I feel irritated by Panasonic. I wrote many times via mail to their support and on their Facebook page and yet issue with the timecode isn't addressed. If you use timecode and change to any VFR enabled mode, the timecode hits pause and goes out of sync and whenever you turn back to standard 50fps mode the timecode isn't checked against current time and stays out of sync. Every good videographer uses the custom dials on the camera to switch fast between modes and this bad implementation forces us to use timecode only if shooting in one mode the whole time. Ambassador this to Panasonic man.
Oh, and since you are in a hurry to deliver that message, don't forget to mention the horibble VFR compression algorithms or whatever it is that causes details to look huge fans of aliasing.
I've had my GH5 for a little over a month now, coming from the G7 for over 4 years. I love the GH5 and it's just a bonus that we're getting updates. I wanted a G9 as well so these updates + price drop make it worth picking up to have as a C cam.
You’re awesome for saying so. Thank you for recognizing that free updates are a bonus. Just finished reading a bunch of complaints that that XYZ isn’t included or it’s not for their camera, so it was nice to read your comment. Cheers.
@@photojoseph Hopefully they add it to the regular menu instead of having to go to the high speed menu. Not a big deal (beggars can't be choosers) but definitely more convenient.
OMG one of my most wanted features! I might actually use high speed recording now! My last wish for this camera is shutter angle and I will have nothing to complain about.
hey joseph, thanks for the great explanation. You are really the GoTo Channel for all Lumix news! Can'T wait for your detailed review video on this incredible firmware update
Looks like I'm going to have to spend some time on the GH5's autofocus to see if there really is anything of practical use here for me (for video). I've got used to working in Manual now, but it would be nice to have something automatic and reliable to fall back on. The more I think about the new features the more I realise that this is quite a major upgrade for the GH5. Even bigger for G9 users. Thanks Panasonic.
As a GH5, GH5S and G9 owner, I already use the G9 over the GH5 for video whenever long recording times are not required... the primary reason being the better colour science (its not mentioned in this video but its is a considerable advantage) and the significantly better AF. But I did occasionally miss the waveform and 10bit. Ok, you have to pay $100 to get the waveform on the G9 (with VLOGL thrown in for free), but at least its now available, and with everything else it makes the G9 almost a GH5.5 for less money. If I'm recording long form, I'll usually use the GH5S anyway because it'll be on a tripod, and the colour science between the G9 and GH5S is much more similar than between the GH5 and GH5S. So from where I'm standing, the GH5S and G9 make better partners than the GH5S and GH5.
Totall agree - Hey, Do you get a lot of noise at 180/ 200fps. - im PAL ( Australia ) and get huge noise even at F2.5 - at 200fps with good Sigma Art glass as well
@@camcamwatt anything over 125fps starts to look a bit ropey to me, but up to that it looks amazing. 125fps is more than enough for me, and I actually find anything more than that too much.
I am planning to use the Lumix for real estate recording..sometimes very poor light..which one would you recommend to buy? I like that G9 is $300 less. Can I cancel internal stabilization so I can use a gimbal?
If you want the best low light performance AND you’re going to use a gimbal, then get the GH5S. But yes you can disable the IBIS in the G9, and as far as a gimbal is concerned it’ll be like it was never there. However if you really want to understand the difference between IBIS off and no IBIS, watch this: ruclips.net/video/6nkDqsT_STc/видео.html
I don't know why they won't address the non linear manual focus of the native lens lineup with a firmware update to either lens or the cameras or both. They could even put a lens focus sensitive adjustment setting in the menu...at least you think they could without much issue.
My G9 is much better than the X-T3 even before this firmware update, for one it's amazingly stable with amazing IBIS, it's got a flippy display, decent battery, no crop on 4K60 and a better (more affordable and more compact) lens lineup.
@@briandecasa5444 I think the G9 gains a lot in low light performance due to the Dual IS 2, that crazy amazing IBIS lets you take much better photos at low light with no blur. Something impossible handheld with the XT-3, having to take photos on a tripod is totally limiting and as far as I know many of the major Fuji lenses perform poorly at doing autofocus for video, though I am sure the Fuji has better autofocus than the Panasonic for video even with one of these unoptimized lenses at video.
Ok, you have autofocus and thé gh series being reliable, but I don't see an argument sticking to Panasonic if they don't do internal raw like blackmagic.
@God Drink Visuals yes, I understand, not for fast workflows and youtube. But maybe for independent film creation where you want total control in post. And even then, not every shot needs to be RAW, but then you have the option to record prores 422 internally... and that is more edit friendly format for sure then h264 and h265, all intra or GOP.
in fact I am just trying to decide between canon c200 raw, s1h prores raw externally (10bit or 12bit or 14bit? in the future), eva 1 prores RAW externally (10bit only) or all the blackmagics without good autofocus or stabilisation.
Wow!! Your info is so helpful. Can’t wait for new firmware updates wanna try it out with my G9. I usually shoot vdo and photos with G9 its a fantastic camera. no regret for purchased Appreciate for the info again sir!! Have a great day sir
In general, only the flagship cameras get big feature boosts like this. Lower models get fixes. That’s not a rule, but if you look at the history, that’s to be expected.
Yes! So happy right now! I've loved my G9 but I've recently become a little more video focused and I was getting ready to sell it for a camera that can shoot 4K log (probably GH5 but I was considering going over to Sony). It was like Panasonic read my mind!
Fantastic video as always @PhotoJoseph so easy to understand with your clarifications and I’m looking forward to updating my GH5S. You’re a great guy and like I always tell people, you would never hurt a fly 😆
I was mentioning on another forum about the high res improvements in relation to motion/moving subjects in the image. This was one response I received " it works by substituting parts from a standard res shot, so if there's lots of movement you basically lose any resolution advantage". Can you advise if this is the case at what stage does "lots" of movement cause the resolution advantage to be lost?
That is correct. If there’s movement (i.e. leaves moving) then the camera can’t piece together parts from multiple exposures because they won’t match / line-up. So instead of having bizarre shadow/glitchy images where things moved, wherever there was motion you’ll have scaled-up pixels. Since it’s handled on a virtually pixel-by-pixel basis, it’s pretty hard to spot. The fewer moving portions of the scene you have, the harder it’d be to notice. If everything is moving… well, then the scene isn’t a candidate for high resolution mode 😉
Yes that’s right. If the scene is static (i.e. a studio photo) then just use mode 1. But if there’s any chance of movement, use mode 2. Which is usually going to be the right choice.
Hi. I use the G9 and I am very excited about this update. They're really dialing it in pretty well from my point of view. I would at some point like to see the tethering capabilities improve, but hey these are some great updates!
Great job for these Lumix cameras.. Fujifilm's stucked with the X series, no new functions on newer models but also especially on xh1, last update from January and is a Fuji "pro" camera. Fuji was famous for Kaizen updates but Panasonic is doing it better last two years compared to past and fewer updates. .
I’m still trying to figure out how to use all the goodness currently in my G9! Great presentation PJ. Looking forward to your how-to-install video as I’ve never done a firmware update. Focus peaking in autofocus is nice, but that is how I could quickly tell in the viewfinder if I accidentally popped the focus ring into AF mode. Guess I’ll have to find another way now.
Thanks for the updates, great video!! That's why we love Panasonic, they take care of their product even after years. One small thing, I checked the menu of my GH5 and it does have the red night mode. However, G9 owners can be really happy now, these updates are perfect presents for Christmas :)
@@photojoseph GH5 update is very disappointing, especially as when we bought it it was the flagship camera from Panasonic, feels like a kick in the teeth.
How exactly is this a kick in the teeth? It’s a FREE update with features that were never promised to you. The camera has received multiple FREE updates since it was released nearly three years ago. Please, explain to me how this is disappointing. Technology progresses. Should the GH5S and G9, released after the GH5, been intentionally crippled when they were released? I just don’t understand people COMPLAINING about new features.
@@photojoseph I am grateful for any Panasonic updates, but the value of the GH5 against the G9 has diminished based on these tremendous G9 updates. My point was that as a Panasonic customer who has purchased GH1, GH2, GH3, GH4 and GH5 wanting the best that Panasonic had to offer at the time, it seems like a kick in the teeth to be given a very limited update when you thought you were buying Panasonic's flagship model and a much cheaper camera now gets many more significant updates and the customer who spent considerably more for their flagship model gets significantly less updates. I think GH5 customers have bought a lot of Panasonic cameras, potentially more sales than the G9, It seems like a huge number of customers potentially disappointed that Panasonic has chosen to regard their larger initial investment as less worthy of significant updates.
matt brown I reiterate; there are hardware limitations to what the GH5 can do. It’s pretty safe to assume that one day you’ll have a GH6, and that’ll be the new flagship. But to be upset with Panasonic for adding features to another newer camera because they can, and not adding them to your camera because they can’t, is petty. The GH5 got less updates _this_ _time_ but it’s had major updates in the past - more than the G9 has gotten.
Only problem with this update is that we won't have it until the 19th! :-D This is such a huge upgrade that it exceeds all my hopes! While I somewhere hoped we'd get animal detect AF I didn't think we would. And highlight weighted metering, yum! My G9 is gonna be so happy! Now if I only had more Panasonic lenses rather than Olympus ones... Simply way to go Panasonic!
So what would be a better camera for video if you’re doing run and gun, vlog style videos following a subject. I had my woes with a lower end canon model and it’s autofocus. I’ve had my eyes on the gh5s since I started wanting to so films but after this the g9 seems like the better option??
Great stuff...so what are the specific CF Express improvement/performance gains over the XQD? I know CF Express prices are but a few dollars more than XQD with similar GBs and this probably explains why Sony seems to have discontinued their XQD lines. Thanks for sharing.
Damn! I'm current a Canon user( 60D w/ 24-105mm F4L IS USM) and seeing the G9 get this major updates makes me want to get it soon. I'm torn with going Sony A7III or Fujifilm XT3 but upon seeing the G9, I might go with that camera even though it's a mft camera. Is it ok if I use my canon glass for the G9 instead go with the A7III or XT3 (sadly love this camera but no ibis :( )?
You can adapt just about anything to MFT, which is one of the great advantages. I have several old Canon EF mount lenses that I use, as well as M42 screw mount and others. Just understand that you won’t get great AF performance when adapting lenses. And yeah, Panasonic is pretty awesome about updating their pro gear!
@@photojoseph Hi Joseph, I watch a video and quite confused. Will the G9 get an 10 bit 1080p video also or just for 4k? I research about the 1080p video of the G9 and currently it's only 8 bit. Hopefully in the upcoming update the camera can shoot 10 bit 1080p. 😕
Very happy about the Profoto integration on the S1. I’m looking forward to HSS shooting with my Air Remote O and B10 strobe and A1 flashes. I imagine there will be Profoto FW updates as well?
I have a GH5S and G85. Tempted to upgrade the G85 to the G9 because of the advanced video and photo features now, should match up nicely to the GH5S and seems a better option for photos
As a G9 owner, I am a happy camper. Very glad Panasonic isn't neglecting their micro 4/3rds cameras. If Panasonic stays true to substantially updating their cameras' firmware (like Fuji), then I will not be looking elsewhere when it comes to purchasing a new camera.
Thanks for sharing Joseph. I’ve been very happy with the G9 but looked at some of the GH5 video features with a bit of envy. This update basically makes the G9 the perfect hybrid for me. Would be very interested to see a hands-on review of some of the new video features if you got you hands on a preview version of the firmware.
Thanks for the update summary PhotoJoseph I have to say that if I'd be considering again purchase between G9 and GH5 I might have leaned towards the former... water under the bridge now :-)
Hey Joseph, assuming you’re working on new videos covering using the updated features of these cameras. Could you please cover using the G9’s additional VFR functions as I’m struggling to access them as they’re greyed out in the menu. Can’t seem to find any info on what I need to do to make that menu available. Cheers
I don't get why the Ultra Resolution Mode for Photos couldn't enter on the GH5 update. Aren't they both micro four-thirds with moving sensors? I wish they added that to the GH5 as well.
Pretty cool to be a Panasonic Ambassador! It’s heartening to see Panasonic putting so much focus into software updates, enabling the features we all want!
Fan Bloom Tastic - Your geeky tech skills never cease to amaze me- actually doing a video in this myself and will be giving u a huge shout out for those wanting more deets! Amazing Jospeh 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻🎥🍿💻
Hi! I'd like to know if the firmware 2.0 addition of vfr on the G9 will bring full manual exposure control to the slow motion and if the 1080p bitrate will improve to gh5 level. The G9 had no exposure control when shooting slowmo and also the quality of the picture was pretty low with very low bitrate. It was soft and with many artefacts. Thanks a lot in advance
Hey Jan - you may have to ask me this again when the software is in my hands. Manual exposure was added to S1 for high speed shooting, and full VFR support was added to G9, which I would _assume_ includes manual exposure, but it's not explicitly listed.
No, the waveform monitor is disabled when you are in stills shooting mode. That’s a really interesting question though; I don’t know why this is the case. I could certainly see that using the waveform monitor for shooting stills would be helpful.
@@photojosephPity. There's a couple of videos about why a waveform monitor would be a good and perhaps superior alternative to a histogram. Thanks for the speedy reply 👍
Great Info and comparison! I'm in for the G9 now. Was debating between it and the GH5 for about a year... One note: Didn't the nightmode come to the GH5/s in a former firmware update?
Is ‘highlight weighted’ a form of spot metering or center weighted with EC to compensate for highlights. I have always assumed that ‘multiple’ metering was similar to Canon/Nikon, that is it was ‘center weighted’/‘multi’ metering with EC adjusted based on metering at multiple points and adjusted based on a proprietary “magic sauce”. Since Panasonic called it highlight weighted I am assuming it is a form of weighting. However, the symbol they use adds confusion that it might be ‘spot metering’.
I agree the symbol used is confusing. Honestly I wasn't sure how this worked until I looked it up because you asked ;-) The manual describes Highlight Weighted as a "Method used to perform measuring which focuses on the highlighted parts of the screen to prevent overexposure. This is suitable for theatre photography, etc." So I guess the spot symbols is still largely relevant, meaning that it will adjust the meter for a smaller, brightest part of the scene, regardless of where it is. Like an auto-spot meter, that points the meter at the brightest part of the scene, wherever it may be. Multiple metering is like Canon's, Nikon's etc where it evaluates many parts of the scene at once, and not just averages, but intelligently analyzes the scene to try to determine what is most important.
PhotoJoseph Any chance you could check with Panasonic and clear up this confusion. It would help if we had a better idea what they are doing vs. guessing. I would think they could give some guidance without revealing any proprietary information. Thanks.
Hey John, I got some more info back - my explanation is spot on (pun intended!). It is specifically designed for scenes with bright spots where those bright spots are what matters most, like a theater stage.
I've done some initial testing with this FW upgrade and I'm wrapped. Will be shooting my next paid gig with the G9 in 5K video using the 6K photo mode. From that I will extract stills, 1:1 insta-videos, 17:9 videos for everything else. The photos may not be RAW, but if I know what I am doing, I can get them in range enough for 10bit 4:2:2 to be enough and not have to be pushed too far. This is it. We have the ideal hybrid solution here. The natural upgrade path is the S1H. Can't lose.
So now I'm very confused Friday I'm buying the the new camera what advise me Gh5 or G9 ? I like take photos and make videos . In Italy Gh5 it's 1250 euro with kit lens and G9 1100 with kit lens... I'm your opinion what's the best in this moment :)
Is it still recommended that you turn focus to manual on the GH5, then use the rear focus (AE lock) button to focus in on your subject, checking the focus peaking, before recording?
@@photojoseph Understood. But from your Lynda/LinkedIn learning video it seemed like the process I posted above was the best way to stop the hunting issues on relatively stationary subjects.
I bought a G9 when they first came out and like it a lot but the video was not quite to the level of the GH5 so these new upgrades are very good, but, and it's a big but, the video recoding limit is a pain for me. I get asked to record plays and music concerts etc and hovering around the camera to press record agin when it cut off it a total pain in the ass, Everything else is great but this lets it down. Do you think this will ever change? I was so excited to see your video hoping this may change but no.
Interesting as I have recorded 4K for well over an hour with only the few seconds between it reaching the 30min cut off's and the camera is barely warm. I recon they could do it. Have they actually told you this? I live in a cold climate anyway so I don't think it would matter. @@photojoseph
OFB Cycling World this is proven. The fact that you’re in a cold environment is what made it work. We have a report of a hacked camera that overheated in just 80°F after 20 minutes of recording. This is why the software limits you to 10 minutes.

Cheers.
Finally manual exposure during high speed recording with S1!!!
Yep! I know a few people who will be happy for this ;-)
@@photojoseph Hopefully they add it to the regular menu instead of having to go to the high speed menu. Not a big deal (beggars can't be choosers) but definitely more convenient.
$2k camera. Who is beggar? This thing and V-log must be at release
OMG one of my most wanted features! I might actually use high speed recording now! My last wish for this camera is shutter angle and I will have nothing to complain about.
Yeeeeaaaaah when it pops there i started dancing :D :D ....hopefully soon we have also shutter angel option.
hey joseph, thanks for the great explanation. You are really the GoTo Channel for all Lumix news! Can'T wait for your detailed review video on this incredible firmware update
Looking forward to the near/far af feature on the G9. So tired of fighting with the af when framing a more distant subject with a foreground feature.
How? How did you get used to manual focus when it's so non-repeatable? Or have you also not bothered with Panasonic's focus-by-wire lenses?
This is huge, puts the g9 back in contention with the Fuji xt3 and the gh5. Solid and thank you!
Love my G9. Now even more! So happy for the video upgrades! Thank you Panasonic!!!
Terrific recap - thank you!
Super of Panasonic to keep improving already sold cams.
Thank you, and I agree!!
Wow! I can't wait for the G9 update! It's like getting a new camera! This brings the "old" G9 back to compete with the Fuji XT3..
My G9 is much better than the X-T3 even before this firmware update, for one it's amazingly stable with amazing IBIS, it's got a flippy display, decent battery, no crop on 4K60 and a better (more affordable and more compact) lens lineup.
@@charbax the XT3 is better at low light and AF is sony level. I'd still give the edge to the XT3 but if you're a vlogger then G9 is a better option
Wow! am so Excited, still hoping that Autofocus on GH5 will be better than it presently is.
Thanks for the Info Joe.
Pretty excited about being able to manually set the exposure High- Speed Video on the S1. I would also like a shutter angle setting maybe next time.
For the GH5s I was really hoping for Prores, Prores Raw, DNXHR or RAW HDMI output haha, but I am really interested to see the AF improvements 😁
That was one crazy ride!!! Thank you!
Really thinking of picking up a g9 as a secondary cam ... very interesting!
Wow!! Your info is so helpful. Can’t wait for new firmware updates wanna try it out with my G9.
I usually shoot vdo and photos with G9 its a fantastic camera. no regret for purchased
Appreciate for the info again sir!! Have a great day sir
I hope this AF Near Shift also work in Video mode, lets see.. 🙏
Looking forward to the G9 upgrade. Thanks for explaining the upgrades so clearly, Joseph.
Any chance that the lower models would also receive some improved features?
Hahahah
@@photojoseph So the new mode 2 of the high res option still requires a static image to get the most out of the resolution. Thanks for the response 👍
Interesting point. I don’t know if it will be separately disable-able from manual focus peaking
Thanks for the updates, great video!! That's why we love Panasonic, they take care of their product even after years. One small thing, I checked the menu of my GH5 and it does have the red night mode. However, G9 owners can be really happy now, these updates are perfect presents for Christmas :)
Does it? LOL that was one thing I questions as I was recording… but at least I was wrong in a good way ;-) hehe
18:00 the GH5 has night mode as well, that's not a G9 unique feature.
Fabulous update and presentation! Thanks so much!
Can't wait to upgrade my G9 and test the new features. Thank you Panasonic for making these upgrades available!
As a G9 owner I'm pretty stoked
The GH5 seems like a fairly locked camera at this point. No significant updates in quite awhile.
The camera is nearly three years old… I think they have pretty well maxed out what can be done to it.
This is such a huge upgrade that it exceeds all my hopes!
I'd go with the G9
PhotoJoseph especially at that price point I could have an entire set up with the g9 for the price of a gh5s
Thanks Again, wish I could like more than once. Just finished my the upgrade on my G9.
Look forward to getting the update for my GH5 & GH5s. Loved the fly moment at 14:10.
Great stuff...so what are the specific CF Express improvement/performance gains over the XQD? I know CF Express prices are but a few dollars more than XQD with similar GBs and this probably explains why Sony seems to have discontinued their XQD lines. Thanks for sharing.
I’m working with ProGrade to produce a video explaining CFx. I’m not completely up on it all myself yet, but am working on that.
@@photojoseph Great! Thank you
1080p30 and 1080p60 10bit 100 Mbit
Excellent, thorough and clear. Thanks!
Very happy about the Profoto integration on the S1. I’m looking forward to HSS shooting with my Air Remote O and B10 strobe and A1 flashes. I imagine there will be Profoto FW updates as well?
Correct
Nice overview. The G9 is the sleeper camera no one really talks about. Wish the GH5 had the top LCD display along with the red night mode.
It actually does have the red night mode. I made a mistake in the video. Can’t add the LCD though :-)
I have a GH5S and G85. Tempted to upgrade the G85 to the G9 because of the advanced video and photo features now, should match up nicely to the GH5S and seems a better option for photos
The G9 is excellent even before the updates!
exciting stuff, looking forward to updating my GH5. thanks for the update and video
Thanks and you’re welcome! I’ll do some hands-on but not until I have the final version.
you my friend are doing a real service
Thanks for all the info! One happy G9 owner here!
You’re welcome!
Thanks for the update summary PhotoJoseph I have to say that if I'd be considering again purchase between G9 and GH5 I might have leaned towards the former... water under the bridge now :-)
Thank you for all the Info Joseph!
Thank you very much for the info, and I like the quality! I'm eagerly waiting to be able to buy the amazing GH5S!
Hey Joseph, assuming you’re working on new videos covering using the updated features of these cameras. Could you please cover using the G9’s additional VFR functions as I’m struggling to access them as they’re greyed out in the menu. Can’t seem to find any info on what I need to do to make that menu available.
Cheers
Make sure you’re in MOV mode then chose mode a format that lists “VFR available”
I don't get why the Ultra Resolution Mode for Photos couldn't enter on the GH5 update. Aren't they both micro four-thirds with moving sensors? I wish they added that to the GH5 as well.
Processing technology. The GH5S and G9 are a generation ahead.
Pretty cool to be a Panasonic Ambassador! It’s heartening to see Panasonic putting so much focus into software updates, enabling the features we all want!

@@photojoseph Thanks a lot!
I'll remind you you finally get it.
I am curious to see how significant the AF improvement will be on the G9. This will be the benchmark for DFD AF on Panasonic cameras.
If you bought the waveform monitor for the G9, would you be able to use it for stills instead of a histogram?
I believe it did.
Yep, someone else pointed that out… just glad I was wrong in a positive way ;-)
Is ‘highlight weighted’ a form of spot metering or center weighted with EC to compensate for highlights.
Can't lose.
GH5: HIghlight-weighted metering is a great addition ! Very useful.
Great news thanks!
Could someone give precise details/specs regarding the .MOV video for the G9 for particularly Pal here in Australia?
Thanks.
Once it’s shipping…
Hello Joseph, the MC-21 converter is better than metabones? I have some canon and sigma lenses EF, and I want to try its on a lumix g9. Thanks
The MC21 is EF to L-Mount, not MFT.
So now I'm very confused Friday I'm buying the the new camera what advise me Gh5 or G9 ? I like take photos and make videos . In Italy Gh5 it's 1250 euro with kit lens and G9 1100 with kit lens... I'm your opinion what's the best in this moment :)
Are we going to be able to use something like Atomos Ninja V to use the the 4K 60fps 4.2.2 on the G9?
Yep!
@@photojoseph thx for the reply
Is it still recommended that you turn focus to manual on the GH5, then use the rear focus (AE lock) button to focus in on your subject, checking the focus peaking, before recording?
There is no best. Just whatever works for the situation
@@photojoseph Understood. But from your Lynda/LinkedIn learning video it seemed like the process I posted above was the best way to stop the hunting issues on relatively stationary subjects.
disapointed for GH5 users but great for G9s...i dont own S1...yes :P
Winner! Winner! Chicken dinner! Well done Panasonic and well explained Joe.
No. It’s an overheating protection issue.
