I could just sit there all day and watch that seconds hand hit all the markers dead on with each “tick tick tick” What a lovely and bespoke time piece. Thanks for sharing it with us Pete… 🙏
Funny people in the comments complaining about the finish of the movement, and the price. Most plain Rolexes are more expensive and less exclusive. If this was a Patek P. It would be priced x3. I love Habring2 and had been looking for a model I would feel comfortable spending my hard earned money on. Thanks Peter for helping me make that leap. As always wonderful video.
Wow. That is a beautiful watch. When a prolific watch reviewer buys a watch, you know it’s something special. You and TGV are the only two people I watch videos of watches I cannot afford. Thanks and congrats on the new purchase!
I really appreciate your channel for highlighting uncommon watches, the German/Austrian ones in particular. I'm a huge fan of German watches and after many years of lusting after a Habring (I realize they're Austrian) I took the plunge and ordered from Define Watches the Erwin Pilot which shares the same jumping seconds with the watch you're presenting here, minus a complication. I really feel that supporting small watchmaking artisans like Habring and Dornbluth & Sohn, among others, is far better than springing for whatever big name brand everyone else is sporting.
I have never been a fan of regulators because they’re a bit of a pain to tell the time with. But I would happily change my tune for this. It’s worth spending those few extra seconds on this lovely dial. And a dead beat seconds complication is just showing off. That’s so cool. This is the best watch you’ve reviewed since your gorgeous dornbluth
A quote from Théophile Gautier, French poet, novelist and art critic: “Beauty, the only thing that cannot be acquired, forever inaccessible to those who do not have it.” Also, this “JOSEF” is a real inaccessible beauty (for me). But, my interest in beauty is firstly linked to the admiration of the work and talent of artists, and in particular, the watchmakers Maria Kristina & Richard Habring. Thank you very much for this new presentation.
You’re right. I’ve never seen a watch like this before. My initial reaction: it’s a true expression of independent watchmaking free from the big brand cookie cutter mentality. While it may not fit my budget I can admire the craftsmanship and creativity. I hope they sell every piece.
Beautiful watch, thank you for sharing it! The second hand ticking whole seconds dates back to the pocket watch era, and was called ‘dead seconds’ or ‘Seconde Morte’ in French. Many pocket watches for the Chinese market had dead seconds, as it was considered unlucky to break the seconds up into pieces. These watches often had a Duplex escapement that was designed to easily facilitate dead seconds. Some very high grade pocket watches, such as made by James Nardin of Le Locle, had two separate going trains coupled to the escapement, one for the hours and minutes, and another for the dead seconds hand. More recently, simpler designs very similar to what is seen in this watch were used. I’ve seen a few vintage wristwatches with dead seconds, but this Habring2 has to be the best looking I’ve seen in wristwatch format.
Great choice of watch for review, an absolute gem ! Clean and precise design cues, I actually really like it but would probably never have been on my radar. Cheers
There is a practical reason for the deadbeat seconds complication. It originally was invented for regulator watches, which were developed as reference timepieces, to enable more precise timesetting.
Nice Video. Looks like we both have a simular taste. Put mine on a bracelet too. Limited to 1 000 pieces. One of my favorite daily beaters. Have it on the five link bracelet. You put yours on the one with the adjustable clasp. Great choice❤.

Hey Peter I love the back story and get the mechanicals and vision. Is it me? Not really. I admire the makers and those who choose its vision and horological path.
Really nice craftsmanship and i think the finish of the movement are really nice and thought trew. The fact that they designed the movement where the regulator are the center of the movement, this watch are perfect for the collectors that like the history and craftmanship behind watch makeing! Thats the same reason why almost every modern watch whit a tourbillon movement shows of the tourbillon in the face. And people pays a lot of money for something that's useless on wrist watches. But as an collector i would love to own a tourbillon watch and i would love to own this watch to for the exact same reason! And i really love the fact that this is unique and made by an smal independent watchmaker!!! I have one issue and thats the long minute hand it looks strange and totalt of! They should have gone fore a Hour and minute hand like an regular watch and the put the power reserve where the hours are now. And of course they should keep the jumping second hand in the same position, that makes sense..... I would love to own this watch anyway but whit those smal changes this watch would go from a 7/10 to a 9/10.....
Have never seen anyone wearing my 2003 NHC - 'Wandering' - 'Jump Hour' by Vincent Calabrese called 'The Ottica'. He still 'custom build's' the Ottica to this day as an automatic masterpiece which is built by him in Switzerland.
Gee whiz Mr. Kotsa this is stunning! Can you show a couple of duds next? With all the amazing watches you’ve shown lately, I don’t think our bank accounts can take any more.

@@PeterKotsa That's true. Maybe living in Europe we've got way more exposure to this watch/brand that is quite common in watch geeks circles. I only added my perspective, forgot that your channel might be mostly populated by Australians or people from the US. Cheers !
I have such money for watches, but not for a single watch. I've bought some expensive ones and many not that expensive and I my enjoyment is not proportional to the price in most cases. Nice watch nevertheless.
Ok, so, while GS makes ingenious SpringDrive to surpass the mechanical smoothness of the sweep, Habring designs 11k complex mechanical watch to imitate the jumping second hand of the quartz movement. I find this hilarious, albeit the watch looks great. But of course it takes a very specific taste (and probably quite extensive collection already) to spend 11 grand on this timepiece.
I wonder what servicing would look like 20+ years from now. These small brand in-house movements are pretty incredible but it would make me uneasy over the long run.
Really like the watch, but can’t understand why they didn’t put the hour hand at 12 o’clock and the secondhand below. I totally wouldn’t buy the watch because of this because every time I look at it, my brain would have to adjust, which I find an unnecessary inconvenience in a watch. BEAUTIFUL otherwise!

Nothing against the watch, the looks, or the story. But i think it is a shame, especially considering the astronomical price, so little attention was spent really finishing the movement itself. Now it's not bad, but when you make it the centerpiece of attention - having a very nicely finished movement does a lot to elevate the entire package.

The kind of tick i dont mind!
I was always under the impression the jumping seconds was referred to as a deadbeat second. Good to know there's another name for the complication.
I have a jump second watch from the early 60s. It throws most watch people because it clearly predates the quartz revolution.
If you a ticking per second might as well make it quartz. I do like the mechanical aspect though but not the final product.
Love your videos.
