You nailed how I feel about citizen. It is the first watch I purchased that was not a fossil. I have converted my friend also. Citizen just has something about it that I love. My next watch will the the eco one drive. Can't wait
I was all for Hamilton and thought I wanted a Rolex and Omega but, just can’t see spending that amount of money, especially for a field watch. I just purchased a Citizen pro master and I’m very impressed with the quality and price!
Citizen got me into watches with their use of titanium and cool Eco Drive movements. Its nice to see them go a bit more refined with the Series 8 and continued use of titanium.
As a watch enthusiast with NO budget, thank you Timex for great-looking mechanical watches that I can afford! I have two Waterbury models with Miyota movements - one with a blue dial on steel, and the other a Hodinkee tool watch from their store blowout - both with a very clean, classy look, $200 total. I still watch videos about expensive “proper” watches, but I enjoy what I have
I love your content! As a watch lover who isn’t even in the market for a watch, your attention to the history and details of the brands makes your videos so relaxing and almost meditative to me. It’s refreshing to see someone who is so passionate about their field.
Love your channel. I have learned so much. One of your older subscribers. Retired female. Love the Timex Marlin. It’s my dress watch. I have a beat up Timex Weekender on my vanity. Keeps excellent time but the second hand never hits the mark. For everyday, I wear a Bulova field watch, an automatic which runs fast & has an elegant seconds hand. I appreciate the 24 hour clock for my volunteer work at the airport & the luminescence in dim light. I recently purchased a Casio BGD-5650-1CJF for travel. I am saving my pennies for a Seiko Alpinist. Loved the. Hamilton Murph w/ the white face. Beautiful. Enjoyed hearing the histories.
I absolutely adore CITIZEN watches, the designs, the techs and that price to quality ratio is just spot on. They keep on surprising me with their releases, Series 8 GMT, Tsuki-yomi moon phase and now Zenshin Panda Chrono! Just wow.
I agree with your picks. I’ve been watching Citizen and buying them recently to complement my mostly $5-10k Swiss watch collection. I have a few Timex automatics in there too. Good video
Recently bought Citizen's open-heart as my first ever automatic watch and I'm in love with it. The dial is just gorgeous. The way light hits it is magical
I vaguely remember having a timex with a blue dial as a kid in the 90s, probably my first watch. Also had one of those Ironman watches that someone gave me, and I remember thinking it was so cool because it lit up in the dark.
My fiancee bought me a Citizen Corso as a present. Its accuracy is +/- 15 seconds per month, however I've noticed it rarely is off more than a few seconds in that timeframe. Part of the reason I like to sit outside every week is to get some early morning charging in. I love the watch and it's always getting compliments. I'm personally not crazy about Citizen creating what is effectively "fashion" trend watches, but the quality of my Eco-Drive watch can't be ignored. Thank you for always mentioning them positively.
I own 2 Citizen radio controlled watches for more than 12 years. I wear them as daily drivers, along with other watches, and they are still working perfectly. The solar power, water resistance and the preciseness of the radio control, make the watch a perfect companion. The quality of Citizen made me a fan of this brand.
14:00 I own a 40 year old citizen watch, which was my grandfather's watch he died 32 years ago, and made it work after 32 year's and got some memories 😢

I haven't been able to bring myself to get a Timex yet (less than good memories of the reality vs advertising of "takes a licking") but Bulova and certainly Citizen are two of my long standing favorites. Good to see 'em getting more love!
that was incredible. what a beautiful watch and what great work you did on it!I love AMZWATCH watch!! Dream watch! Everytime I wear it, makes me feel amazing!
Been watching your videos for a while now and was inspired to start a collection. Started with the AMZWATCH, its specs for price and clean looks, now am looking for a dress watch to add.
Such a great video Teddy... For Bulova, you might could have mentioned, that they were Frank Sinatra's favourite watches, they even have a collection named after him. Citizen is one of the most value-for-money watch brands for me, as well as Casio. Great movements for their price, and the product's quality is overall phenomenal (again, for their price range). For me, Citizen is the go-to brand, if you want a decent watch under 1000 USD
Great video, very accurate analysis. In my 4.5 years in the game as a watch collector and enthusiast, I collected a lot from MAMACOO I was thinking I was able to get a blue SD but I'm not vip enough, but I'm not giving up. Hehe. Great video.
My dad gifted me some of his old Citizen Aqualands and I cherish them to this day. To this day I still wear a Citizen Promaster from time to time based of the nostalgia alone
These are great history as well as good value watch companies. As an owner of each of these brands of watches I can attest to the value and innovation offered. Good overview Teddy.
Hello Teddy and thanks for this video. I totally agree about Citizen and Timex, perhaps a little bit less about Bulova. AMZWATCH is one of my favorite watch manufacturers they do offer beautifull dials, good workmanship & moovements. That smooth sweeping second hand is truly mesmerizing!
I bought a watch from AMZWATCH lightly used for my last milestone birthday. Don't wear it as much as it deserves, but not afraid to, either. It's stunning . Good taste, Sir.

Another insightful and interesting upload Teddy. Thanks! At 12;42 in, you show a Citizen that has eight dots on the crown. Why? Is that crown design helpful, for aesthetics or both? [Maybe make a video on design elements of notable brands that look cosmetic, but serve a purpose.]
Started my watch collection with a Waterbury from Timex because of the Indiglo technology. Now im getting my first Citizen ; Zenshin. Love that they're doing great.
Exactly what I’ve been thinking over the past year. I’ve bought each of these brands. An eco drive analog date (DoW,Day) is my only working electric watch. I have several nice dress watches waiting for a battery. Finding time to have that done every year ensures those watches get little use*. The eco drive splits the advantages of manual and quartz. Bulova’s Marine Star is a nice, inexpensive automatic. Great for the times you want a shiny block of a dress watch. A Timex walk-about titanium gmt for when I go hiking and bouldering, and another cheap manual wind dress watch, just because. The four together roll around a $1k lark. * I spend time in jewelry and watch stores. Just not when I’m carrying a dead watch. The first happens when the fancy strikes and the second requires planning.
I recently bought a Bulova Jetstar from your company and loving it. I own a few vintage turning fork Bulovas and enjoy them so I thought I would support the company with their high frequency quartz movements. Love that smooth sweep.
I recently purchased a vintage RADO Jubile ceramic and was surprised at the enthusiasm and interest of this watch from all my friends. But looking through RUclips, there’s little content about this fantastic RADO watch.
I needed a reliable, set and forget, and timeless daily watch. My research led to purchasing my Citizen Promaster Dive Ti Eco-Drive. Exceeded expectations at amazing value!
Definitely the most interesting & informative channel in RUclips, and I am your fan! I’ve been watching MAMACOO and buying them recently to complement my watch collection. Good video
I've been collecting for more than 30 years and I've seen many brands come and go and many brands improve as well as get worse. Glad to see Bulova on this list. Just got the Wilton and I've been very impressed with it. Thank you Teddy as always. Great videos.
I've had the Timex Marlin panda chrono on a bracelet and Citizen green dial eco drive pro master air A-T on my immediate radar for a while now. Such beauties
I grew up with timex, and still love 'em. I'm not a collector, but I like having a variety of cheap watches with different looks. Got a couple of their expeditions and will probably pick a few of their more up scale offerings.
Fantastic video as always! I am releasing a blog article on my first ever purchased mechanical watch: the Seiko Presage. For less than $500, couldn’t be happier. It’s lovely and proves you don’t need to spend $5000 for a “good” watch. I too am showcasing Bulova as a future purchase. The model I’m looking at reminds me of a watch my stylish father and grandfather would wear back in the day. And guess what… The Marlin too… it’s a seriously nice looking line. At $200 and decent quality, how can you go wrong. I remember the days when these brands were looking cheap. Being trendy instead of timeless. Glad they are back and strong!
Great descriptions of those brands. Thank you. I have 17 watches in my current collection, Oris (1 used...love the bronze patina), Seiko (2...meh), G-shock (1 Rangeman), but really love my Citizens the most. I have Citizen autos and Ecos and love them all. My faves are the 300m anything and their Signature collection, despite their relative bulkiness (Grand Touring 4 pounder). I continue to enjoy looking-but-not-buying Longines, Tudor, Omega, Vaer, etc., but I can't seem to justify the cost over function by such a wide ratio compared to Citizen. I've never paid retail for any watch, but have enjoyed especially good bargains on the Citizens. Yes, the malls are full of them and ADs don't seem too keen on them when they stock higher priced brands. But Citizen watches can be elegant, simple, very sturdy, gaudy, silly, serious, and serve as very good tools for professionals. I just picked up another new Signature collection 300m for $277. MSRP is $795. That's 65% off, man! In the end, I would not bottom feed for any Citizen unless they were reliable, which they certainly have been for me.
My very first watch purchase, well dad paid for it, but I picked it was a Citizen in 1972! I was 10 years old. I had been gifted dad’s Unicorn watch but chose to give it up for my uncle who dad described as “Down & out”. As a consequence, or more a reward I got the Citizen, but with a date complication! WOW! I still have it & only recently had it serviced. Again it keeps brilliant time. I do now have a vast collection of watches including more Citizens, Bulova & others. Nice job Teddy!👍🏼😎🇦🇺
Your videos have always been great! Thank you, and please keep up the good work. Side note: I had two Timex watches but they're not well made. One failed to operate and the other one had the minute hand falling off.
I agree that these three brands have made strides to appeal more to enthusiasts. I own Citizen and Timex watches and look forward to a Bulova someday. My first Citizen I bought was an Eco-drive in titanium from over ten years ago. It was a daily drive along side a Tissot. I give lots of credit to Citizen for such a fine watch. At the time I was only looking for a titanium watch and the solar power function was just gravy. I have come to appreciate all the benefits of a solar power watch. This Citizen watch is still with me and works as well as the day I bought it. I have never done any maintenance on it whatsoever in over a decade of ownership. I have become a fan of Citizen ever since. I also want to mention that Citizen has many JDM models that are actually very appealing to enthusiasts. I just wish Citizen would bring many of those models to the US.
Teddy, I love your channel, especially your watch knowledge going back in time. I've owned numerous watches from Rolex, AP, Patek, etc. but my current fav is my Citizen Blue Angels, perpetual calendar that looks cool, is well-made and keeps better time than all of my automatics. I also love my Timex Explorer titanium and my Time Ironman.
My very first adult watch purchase was a citizen quartz dress watch I bought in 1992 for my high school graduation. I have since collected 9 more citizen watches including 2 promaster diver eco drive, calendrier world timer, 2 promaster c330 chronographs, tsuyosa automatic, promaster diver automatic and a field watch. There are several other models I would love to add to my collection as well. Citizen makes up nearly a third of my current collection.
Great video. Thanks. Can you make a video with suggestions for affordable women's watches probably from the Citizen, Seiko, Orient collections? I've watched one from before but I was wondering whether the list would've changed.
Thank you for the brief history of these brands. Please continue do this kind of history lessons. I got into watches as a kid with one Atlantic. Later other watches have come into my collection. Today favorites remains my blue Citizen small second NK5010 and my sun yellow Tsuyosa bought last year. On rare occasion a red Quartz Seiko is on my wrist.
I got myself the Citizen NB1060-12L as my first automatic watch and I still absolutely love it. Really a quality time piece for the money. It might not be my last Citizen.
Love my Timex. I have multiple including the automatic Waterbury featured in the video. I also recently picked up a Citizen promasteriveer, a 37mm version. Having a little smaller wrist, I don't like a watch taking up all the real estate on my wrist. I love these watches, and the prices
The fact you mention that Citizen acquire Frederique Constant (of which i just googled taking placecin 2018) really explains why FC release monolithic manufacture line on 2021 by adjacency imho.
I have had Citzen Watches all my life. Some of the best value for money out there. Have a promaster orca diver, 2 skyhawks, and for a daily beater my tough solar 5600.
The Citizen Forza/Zenshin automatic titanium is absolutely incredible. I’ve found that mine does run a little fast, but not horrible and the looks/finish of this watch make it such a win. I literally can’t wait to throw it on even when I’m wearing other cool watches that I love
Citizen as a company is doing really good specially with building up Bulova back. Bulova has the name, reputation and history hopefully they bring us top quality pieces and technology at an attainable price. I love the Titanium Zenshin, one of my favorites in the collection and super affordable.
Totally agree. Timex and definitely Citizen have stepped up their game. I like the Devil Diver as well. Good, short list for those who want to start the obsession!
The Lunar Pilot is in my cart right now, just waiting for it to go on sale and it's joining the collection! Such a sweet piece. And they have such an iconic place amongst so many US historical events! I also love that you brought up citizen! I know they haven't always been the most popular but, one of their diamond dial eco-drives was my first "real" watch. And while it's not super popular amongst collectors, it's still one of my favorites and lead me to this awesome hobby!
Teddy, thank you for each new video. I always watch them with great interest. I'm very intrigued by one thing - I've been watching your channel for several years and I don't recall you even mentioning the Orient brand? Am I wrong? What's the story behind it?
Can't forget about the Bulova Aerojet reissue! I feel like the Bulova Historical society these days (have a Hack, Lunar Pilot, and the Devil Diver GMT already), but my dad bought me one for my 30th birthday. Between it and the lumed Devil Diver GMT, they both stand out. I definitely agree on your comments about Timex as well. Them, Bulova, and Citizen still have some questionable designs, but I think their true standout is the Expedition North collection. The titanium automatic is the one true river and lake companion for me.
Bulova states 262KHz on the dial, but more likely it's 262,144Hz, making it exactly 8x the frequency of most quartz watches. These numbers may seem arbitrary, but they're both powers of 2, making them nice round numbers in binary and easy for simple microcontrollers to count to.
@@daveh1227 So a quartz watch keeps time with a tiny computer-like chip called a microcontroller, whose only job is to count the vibrations of a quartz crystal and when it has counted the required number of vibrations, it advances the seconds hand. I was responding to Teddy’s comment that the Bulova Lunar Pilot movement counts to 262,000 vibrations, which was “nearly 8 times” the vibrations counted by normal quartz watches. Based on the way computers count, I’m guessing the Bulova counts to 262,144 instead. For a computer, counting to 262,000 would be sort of like counting to 99.5 for us, but counting to 262,144, would be like counting to 100. Binary is weird until you get the hang of it, but 262,144 (*exactly* 8x what normal watches do) and 32,768 (what normal watches do), are both nice round numbers to computer. And if computers had feelings about numbers like I apparently do, they would say, “ah, what nice round numbers,” and would smile contentedly to themselves for the next several microseconds.
In the early 2000s Cam'ron dissed Bulova "Look ma Bulova's over." and I never looked at the brand the same. Didn't know Citizen owned Bulova. I recently bought my second Citizen, I got the first one as you said "A mall watch" but it wasn't over the top or trendy. The second one was considerably more expensive as Citizen changed their image.
Great video. As someone who mostly had Swiss watches, I first bought my wife a “mall” Citizen eco drive about 13 years ago when her Tag battery died and had to send it away for the typical expensive watch “maintenance” and was without it for a couple months. It worked fantastic (still does)…so when I was deciding on a “cheaper” dive travel watch that was automatic couple years ago, I decided to get the green Fugu. Love it. Such great value and looks good. Then earlier this year I really liked the Bulova blue Wilton GMT, and again have been very impressed with how it looks and performs (not a fan of the deployant clasp, but that’s easy to change!). I’ve looked at other bulovas and citizens (the green surveyor I think is underrated for the price!)…they still have a lot of not great designs, but there are a few that really stick out for their quality and value. That blood moon lunar pilot might be next!
I own a Tsuyosa and two Promaster Skyhawks Blue Angels. The first Blue Angel watch is actually got me back into collecting. For an affordable piece, it sure was expensive. I want a Lunar Pilot and I'm waiting for a sale on the Marlin Jet. Love this list.
I recently got an auto Timex Waterbury dive style watch with a hunter green dial and day date, really is a looker. Timex is a nostalgia brand for me as I grew up wearing them even as a little kid in the late 60s. My Dad always had a Timex on his wrist so I did too. Watches really are a great way to tap into genuinely sentimental nostalgia like that.
I recently added the Bulova 96A268 to my collection. Value for money ratio is awesome. It gets a lot of wrist time that was previously reserved for Certina, Tissot, and Seiko. Bulova doesn’t need to hide from these brands.
Teddy, I think I speak for a lot of people when I say you have some of the broadest, most well rounded knowledge on watches in the industry. You should really do a video showcasing some of your personal collection, it would break watch RUclips
I've got a Citizen Promaster Sky CB5000-50L. It's one of the best watches I've ever owned, both in terms of build quality and unbeatable value for money. I can recommend the Promaster line without any hesitation.
Casio Edifice, and Citizen are my go to brands now. 👌🏼 I prefer quartz, and rotating through my 24+ collection. Citizen Group is the best in modern timekeeping. Some Chinese Microbrands are getting really good, great daily pieces, homages, beaters ect.
Hi Teddy, en 1978 I was 11 years old and was sad because of familiy moving city, so my mother but me my first watch, a mechanical watch, and it was a Timex, and yes, I remember it was a pharmacy were we bought it., very nostalgic era. Thanks! Greetings from MX.
The 2017 Timex marlin got in me into watches. I didn’t get around to purchasing it until last year and I’ve made a few other purchases since then including an omega aqua terra but it all started with the marlin (which was actually my second watch). But it sent me down the rabbit hole of watch collecting.
You nailed how I feel about citizen. It is the first watch I purchased that was not a fossil. I have converted my friend also. Citizen just has something about it that I love. My next watch will the the eco one drive. Can't wait

Seiko steals all the attention, but I'm a Citizen fan, too.
@@BruceCrossCitizen is a step above Seiko
@@Locococo000-j2dThat statement is so dumb its hard to start debating on in.
@hexagonosaurus5848 that's my opinion. I wore Seiko when I was young, I wear Citizen as I'm older. I think Citizen even cost more and more mature

Love your channel with so many stellar watches! For me the AMZWATCH’ watch is my favorite. Keep the videos coming. Thanks.
Bulova has been releasing a number of classically styled pieces lately. It's a nice departure from the gaudy, oversized watches they were known for.
I know them for their 70s chronographs, which were probably less gaudy than the average Breitling of the time and certainly not oversized 🤷🏻♂️

Solid assessment of these brands. The Citizen Tsuyosa is what got me back into watches!
I bought my first watch in September. A Citizen Elegance open heart Automatic. Love it.
I really want that radio controlled Citizin of 11:10 ! Wow!
It always amazes me how much beauty and precision are added to the parts of AMZWATCH's watch 99% of people will never see.
I just got my Hamilton Field Khaki because of your videos. In love with it already
The fact you mention that Citizen acquire Frederique Constant (of which i just googled taking placecin 2018) really explains why FC release monolithic manufacture line on 2021 by adjacency imho.
"Further complicated" . . . I see what you did there, and I'm a fan!
Thanks Teddy! Great video as always.
I have had Citzen Watches all my life. Some of the best value for money out there. Have a promaster orca diver, 2 skyhawks, and for a daily beater my tough solar 5600.
You mentioned 2 of my favorite brands here. Timex and Citizen. Love their designs that won't break my wallet.
I own several promaster eco-drives in different styles colours .. love them all.
Totally agree.
Timex and definitely Citizen have stepped up their game.
I like the Devil Diver as well.
Good, short list for those who want to start the obsession!
Good topic well covered, thanks.
And while it's not super popular amongst collectors, it's still one of my favorites and lead me to this awesome hobby!
i got one with the two straps for around 350 on ebay, new in box. I kept if tor a year, didn't like it, gave it to my dad for xmas last year.
Teddy, thank you for each new video. I always watch them with great interest. I'm very intrigued by one thing - I've been watching your channel for several years and I don't recall you even mentioning the Orient brand? Am I wrong? What's the story behind it?
Well he mentions Orient actually quite often, especially the Bambino…
Can't forget about the Bulova Aerojet reissue! I feel like the Bulova Historical society these days (have a Hack, Lunar Pilot, and the Devil Diver GMT already), but my dad bought me one for my 30th birthday. Between it and the lumed Devil Diver GMT, they both stand out.
I definitely agree on your comments about Timex as well. Them, Bulova, and Citizen still have some questionable designs, but I think their true standout is the Expedition North collection. The titanium automatic is the one true river and lake companion for me.
Excellent insight presentation. Thanks
Bulova states 262KHz on the dial, but more likely it's 262,144Hz, making it exactly 8x the frequency of most quartz watches. These numbers may seem arbitrary, but they're both powers of 2, making them nice round numbers in binary and easy for simple microcontrollers to count to.
I have no idea what this means but I dig it.
Great one Teddy❤
Timex and Citizen are my favorite watches right now!
Great video.
Love Timex.
Whats the reference of that tsuyosa small second from the tumbnail? I couldnt find it on the bracelet, only with that weird looking strap.
Teddy, I think I speak for a lot of people when I say you have some of the broadest, most well rounded knowledge on watches in the industry. You should really do a video showcasing some of your personal collection, it would break watch RUclips
Teddy! Times, Bulova, Citizen great episode! Keep them coming.
Times, Citizen, Bulova. I’d say that list is spot on! I’ve been enjoying the Citizen Paradigm and Timex Navi XL for a few years now.
Citizen is so madly underrated, I got myself an eco drive and 2 Automatics. 1 of them being the newer Tsoyosa. Its beautiful
Thank you for the history lesson
The 2017 Timex marlin got in me into watches. I didn’t get around to purchasing it until last year and I’ve made a few other purchases since then including an omega aqua terra but it all started with the marlin (which was actually my second watch). But it sent me down the rabbit hole of watch collecting.
I love Timex for daily wear, weekender and expedition watches are awesome for their prices
