Taking a pic with my Canon A710IS that my parents used when I was a kid gives images that look like they were taken from that era. Interesting charm all cameras have, really.

The early cams were so fun and youre right, weird. Thats why i like them so dang much. I owm a few of these old birds and im going to be dusting them off very soon . Thanks for highlighting this weird relic of the early digital days of photography!

Like with smartphones: Until the iPhone came out there were weird (in today's standards) smartphone models out there, round ones for example. I've seen several models from the 90s that had this body twist, where the lens and viewfinder/screen part are on another end. Totally cool from today's perspective. Sadly gone.
Camcorders may die the same way. AFAIK only Panasonic produces consumer camcorders (aside from AliExpress products), everything else regarding video has shifted into DSLR/Mirrorless bodies.
