My first time to come across your blog. NHS has advantages when you retire. You get your pension and state pension as well. So it's two pensions you get. In the late 70s I moved from general to midwifery cos I loved midwifery. Then trained to care for the newborn born prematurely. Two yrs later trained as a health visitor to work in the community with children and family. I did the job for 29 years then retired. All my nursing and midwifery experience was very valuable. Worked with GPs, SW , community paediatric doctors etc. I would advise anyone not to get stuck in care homes. Make it a stepping stone to what you want to aspire to and get a good pension at the end. As a health visitor I could do weekend nights in SCBU to earn extra money to pay the bills. I had a mortgage.
Another thing is that I did my degree part time at East London University in Stratford. The sky is the limit. Stay blessed.

I never liked care homes but I spent two and a half years in a care home before moving to the NHS. I worked in the respiratory ward for about six months but being a trained perioperative nurse I moved to do what I was born to do. I'm actually very happy now, however, I'm not tired of exploring. I planned to spend one year here and move to ICU. So I'm joining you in the ICU very soon. One love my sis

I've worked with 3 care homes ,NHS dialysis -8 months then back to the care home for a year, now on my 5th cos in 3&½ yrs. I can't seem to settle like you. I recently got my post graduate qualification specialising in mental health, which NMC UK does not permit me to become a mental health nurse unless I do Mental Health CBT & Osce again. I did the Adult Nursing CBT & Osce at first. I'm tired of being a night nurse where I am a night manager as well in a care home with loads of paperwork that keep on being pushed from day shift to nightshift. I now need hospital experience but surgical or medical units are not for me . I don't know which department I should choose where I can improve my mental health nursing skills in the NHS. I hope you can suggest preferable units.

When it comes to bk biting. It's about the personality of the people in question. The reason it seems to so bd where u are now is because power is diluted for many. Most people on the floor have a boss. There are many nurses, no one person is the chairlady who does 7 days a week shift and the place can't do without that person. The people and behaviour...the same...trust me
