      @@EdSigma I thought it was cool to see a ''pre-accident Davros'' until Russell T Davies said that it wasn't.
      This is meant to be The iconic Davros we know but they didn't go with his usual design because Russell, in his deluded wisdom, seems to think audiences look at a character like Davros and somehow associate disability with evil. which is ridiculous.
      Apparently This Davros will be the one used going forward which is just silly for a character that based the Daleks on himself. war-torn and confined to a chair in the midst of a war seemingly without end. They only came to fruition because their creator was already part Dalek suffering from radiation and confined to life support system.
      If Russell ever did a Star Wars he would not use Vader because according to Russell. ''people would see Vader and see Asthmatics as evil'' lol
      My apologies for the long read friend . Just had to get it out.

    • @noahdavis7406
      @noahdavis7406 9 месяцев назад +3

      @@sketch_0193He didn't say it wasn't "pre accident" Davros. It very clearly is.
      The point he was making was that he didn't put Davros in a wheelchair for this because it would feel weird to have him at the genesis of it as a cripple. It would further solidify the character as the very trope he was pointing out.
      Now, do I fully agree with him? Not really. I think it's silly to say that's why it was actually done. It's obvious that he just wanted to sound good to modern audiences, like every person behind a big project does.

      Well, as *Liberation of the Daleks* is the canonical comic set in between The Star Beast (or, in this short) and The Power of the Doctor, and it seems that the Fourteenth Doctor has spend one hour being active in this comic ... it explains what "has taken 60 minutes".
      Just like 13 said "half an hour ago I was a white-haired scotsman", because she had been falling for almost 30 minutes out of her TARDIS - and a few minutes interacting with Yaz, Graham and Ryan and that electrical robotic alien-thingy before saying this very sentence.

    I can't really understand how RTD can think of Davros being in a Wheelchair being offensive because he's a villain. This is utterly nonsense. In fact it's the opposite of that. Hey look! Even in the scifi world of Doctor Who there is a person who still uses a wheelchair. He might be evil but this only shows the range of people suffering from that in real life! I know literally no one who's in a wheelchair and felt that Davros is offensive to them. Changing that would be offensive! I mean it's ok if Davros finally uses the technology to give himself legs again, but I find it somewhat brilliant of the writers, that he is stuck with the moving technology of the Daleks. it binds him to his creatures and shows that not all is fixable with technology. Don't change that because for some misplaced feelings that this might be wrong in some ways. It isn't. The same way as heroes can be people with wheelchairs, villans can be, too!

    I must admit I always felt that there should be a story where the doctor goes back to a time before Davros was disabled in an attempt to persuade him to create the daleks as compassionate creatures. But somehow ends up causing his injuries and accelerating the development of the daleks. Of course the doctor would have to be using a false name perhaps after newly regenerating and not being sure who he is

    • @Futura2500
      @Futura2500 9 месяцев назад +3

      IT undermines genesis of the daleks though as davros invented them in that story and was in a life support system then

    • @paulhiscock6790
      @paulhiscock6790 9 месяцев назад

      @@Futura2500 in some ways yes but Davros was working on the problem before genesis and had already developed the travel machine casing. So trying to influence him before he actually developed the idea of the daleks being creatures governed by hate in favour of them being humane would not be an out of sequence story

    Love the portrayal of Davros. There had to have been a time before he was handicapped so this doesn't break canon. We just don't know how he was injured. Yet. Might be interesting backstory to be fleshed out.

    • @victor-gr4wj
      @victor-gr4wj 8 месяцев назад

      I agree, but it does break the cannon, by this point Davros was meant to be in the chair, it was shown in classic doctor who, and I believe the dalek travel machine was an add-on to the chair.

    • @ericjohnson6675
      @ericjohnson6675 8 месяцев назад

      @victor-gr4wj was it ever mentioned when he was crippled and needed a life support system? The Kaleds would never waste resources unless it was for someone critical to the war effort so Davros must have been part of the scientific elite and a division or section head at a minimum. So it had to be before Genesis of th Daleks but how far before?

    I am physically disabled and I have been doing advocay work for the disabled for 15 years and I don't nor does anyone have a problem with the classic look of Davros.
    Who was complaining about this because I haven't seen anyone in the past raise this as an issue. This is what virtue signalling truly is. Making a big splash about being virtuous on a topic no one had a problem with.
    Davies has turned Davros into just another scientist. He's taken away everything that made him look unique and now they're going to have to come up with some excuse going forward to explain why he doesn't look like he did anymore.
    So do we have to ban Two-Face now as well? Is it still okay for Doom Patrol to have The Chief in it? Do we have to erase Star Trek VI because the Klingon is blind in one eye?
    Disabled people are not fragile nor are we stupid. We can distinguish between reality and fantasy. I hope the next showrunner fixes this.

    • @ai2802
      @ai2802 9 месяцев назад +2

      As a disabled actor I can see where he was coming from. Disability in media has a long tradition of being associated with "evil".
      However, even with that in mind, I do wish they didn't remove the chair. I've never heard anything bad against the character and unlike some villains, Davros wasn't evil because of his disability. I like a lot of Russell's ideas, but not sure this is one of them.
      I wonder if they actually asked any large disabled groups their thoughts about this or if they just assumed they were in the right?

    • @StephenLeGresley
      @StephenLeGresley 9 месяцев назад +2

      @@ai2802 True and if there was any kind of public outcry over Davros look then that would be different but there isn't and there have been plenty of postive depictions of disabled people in media as well
      Professor X
      Captain Pike
      Echo
      Joey Lucas on the West Wing
      Gordi Laforge
      Daredevil
      Batgirl/Oracle
      Walter White Jr.
      Artie on Glee
      Samar on The Blacklist
      Doctor Midnite
      Freddy Freeman in Shazam
      Misty Knight in Luke Cage
      I could go on and on.
      This is why I call it virtue signalling. We as disabled people are capable of speaking out for ourselves if we have a problem. We don't need saviour Davies to come in and speak for us.
