- Hey guys in this video I'm looking at a custom Launcher with Widgets for the Nvidia Shield TV. On the Nvidia Shield running the latest software, you can update the launcher to add more features. In this video I show you how by updating the Nvidia shield launcher it will allow you to fully customize your home screen. You can also use widgets. You can create folders, change the background as well as tweak the settings. And this works on all Nvidia Shield Tv's.

Mine doesn't, got the wolf launcher up, but in the tutorial he goes to pick widget, how did he pick widget.
Just installed it works great no more ads on the home screen!!

For all those who have been struggling with the error message after trying many many many times as I have, I'll save you the trouble:
appwidget{space}grantbind{space}--package{space}com.wolf.firelauncher{space}hyphenhyphenuser{space}0
The last character is the number zero not letter o. This is what worked for me. As many have said, it would be helpful if you slowed down and really emphasize and say what the characters you're typing are IF you want to avoid people who follow your videos from asking the same questions. Otherwise, good job, and thanks. I hope this helps someone out there.

Important thing worth mentioning is that the widgets will only work if the app is installed on the internal storage (not adoptable)
@fizdog go to settings > apps choose the desired app and in the storage location, choose to move to internal storage

Can you type here the appwidget....command here. Cant tell if there are spaces between letter and also is last digit a zero or capital letter O.

This looks awesome! I love my Shield but although the stock interface is "functional" it's very bland. Nvidia should look at this custom launcher and build it into the Shield. You could slow down your instructions a tiny bit as half way through I started getting dizzy. You talk faster than an auctioneer. hahaha
You can slow down any video on RUclips. Just look for the "Playback Speed" option in the same menu where you can change the resolution/quality of the video.

Reinstall without USB drive
When trying to download the first app, it gets problem parsing the package. I was successful on my other two Shields, but not this one. If this helps, I'm trying to apply these after the Shield Experience 9.0.0 has been installed. Before the other two were not on 9.0.0. It's having issues installing LM.. Is there another app that can switch the default launcher?

But I’m running into an issue with the selection of widget. For example, I have installed the weather app that we see you use. But I’m still left with only the gallery option and shield widget option. Those 2 only. Any idea why no other widget is showing/populating?
Try different apps as they're always changing permissions
The same problem here. I used to have the option to select favourate app in widget selection half year ago. But now when I reinstalled it is not appearing anymore

I downloaded weather xl but how do i add as widget ? When I goto select widget it does not appear on page. Can someone point me to what to do after getting weather XL ?
Try a different app. Some are not compatible.

Hello, I'm not sure you are still monitoring this RUclips channel for an answer. That said I have found the issue. If you look VERY closely the Nvidia keyboard inserts what appears to be a small space when it enters a period. This has the effect of altering the string for the package name. On the Nvidia keyboard there is back arrow. Use the back arrow to position the cursor and the delete key to remove the space. e.g., con. wolf. firelauncher (with spaces) will become con.wolf.firelauncher (No spaces between the nodes of the package name. Hope this helps. RPrinceton
When downloading the Wolf launcher I clicked on install... I get a error message unable to install.
Have you made sure downloader is allowed to install apps. It's in nvidia Settings menu.

Have you made sure downloader is allowed to install apps. It's in nvidia Settings menu.
@@TechFigure Hi, yes it's allowed. I have ATV Launcher installed which looks very similar, where can I get the weather widgets and other ones you use, they may be compatible? Is it Filelinked?
Just download the respective weather apps. They come with widgets 😁

No period between com and wolf. It should be a space.

Hi, like Porr1 below, I keep getting an error message in ADB Shell "unsupported argument: .wolf". I have tried the command "appwidget grantbind --package com.wolf.firelauncher --user 0", "appwidget grantbind --package com wolf.firelauncher --user 0" (without the period between com and wolf) with the same error message. I have granted network debugging, USB debugging, revoked USB debugging, all with the same results - I still get the same "unsupported argument: . wolf". Any assistance/suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you...
You are not alone in your misery. I get the same result. Have tried for 3 days. uninstall apps, re-install apps, change storage location, re-type ADB Shell command over and over. Still the same result. I have scoured the internet for days. Have NEVER found a reply to this specific problem. This problem is simply ignored by everyone.
This looks great but it’s not working for me on the ADB although I have had it before of doc. Tried 5 times with spaces without spaces, with an o and an 0 , keep getting an error, the last one, (ERROR) Unsupported operation: grantbind-package, thanks anyway.
It's not working for the widget part got my ip address don't why not working for me

Doesn’t want to load the weather widget
Does the weather live app and widget still work on the shield? It's in the store but opening it just gives me a network error when my network is clearly fine.

Have you installed a weather app from the Playstore? You need to choose one that comes with widgets.

How to select as home launcher when booting up? I'm using ATV free app and no option to select as default launcher....
Nevermind I found it.. The Wolf app is a knockoff of ATV Launcher. You should remove Wolf Launcher and use ATV Launcher and update your video.
Does this work for a TV?

First. You should tell us all the things we will need to do this... like our IP address. 2nd you should SLOW WAY DOOOOOWN. 3rd you should SAY all the things you are typing. I cant tell if an o is a zero etc. I got all the way to the end when you have to type in all that crap and then it didnt work. Probably because i didnt put in a space somewhere. If you would say what you are typing then we would know exactly whats going on

@@TechFigure I suspect the above specific problem is related to a recent Nvidia Shield update. All references to this problem seem to be in the last month or so. Could Android or Nvidia be purposefully blocking this widget app?
