This is great. I can't speak to trying to break into the field without a degree, but my degree was also somewhat unrelated and I was able to break into the data science field after getting some overlapping *good* relevant experience in a previous role. Totally agree with working on the technical skills in Stages 2-3 (and maybe 4, depends on your company and how they operate). These will set you apart and allow you to gain access to more interesting projects, but maybe more importantly, will *save you time* and allow you to work more efficiently. Lastly, I think it helps to find a reliable and trustworthy resource during the interviewing stage to get constructive feedback from. Sometimes if you aren't hearing anything from companies, it's just a streak of bad luck - don't let that get you down. But if something is inherently wrong with the way you are communicating your skills to potential employers, you *need* to fix that or you are severely handicapping yourself in your job search.

Most companies prefer to hire on contract and then maybe after couple of years convert to full time if they have a position available and the budget or if you come across as a indispensable asset. The only other ways for secure full time is through personal contacts or your own business.

Hey Shashank, great video man! One question, the Gumroad link says it is unavailable in my area. I live in Africa, any way you could recommend by-passing this issue?

I’m one of the people that have NOT obtained a degree. I’m going back to college at the age of 40. My major is Physics with a minor in computer science. I want to become a data Analyst no only to change careers but because the skills I’ll learn are applicable to what Physicist are doing with Data. I’m currently living paycheck to paycheck so a change in careers is badly needed.

What about excel’s power pivot and power query? I perform aggregations, joins, grouping, merging disjointed data from multiple sources, and other data cleansing, etc using power query and powerful pivots, visualizations, and dashboards using power pivot. I never took the time to learn python and pandas because it seems to accomplish the same things at a high level. However, I notice most companies ask for experience in pandas, python, power bi, etc. Is it worth it to learn just for this or is there an advantage that I am missing? Thanks for the video. Very informative!!
