If I’m a manager looking for a Data Analyst and I see someone has a certificate from a course that was self-paced, in my mind that’s almost stronger than instructor-led, because they had to have the initiative and discipline to keep going back, stick with the course, and finish out on their own.
Collect Credentials Build Technical Skills Build Strong Portfolio Build a Great Resume Optimize Your LinkedIn Profile This is such a great video. Thanks!
this is the most informative and constructive advice I've watched today. It didn't just cover tips around the subject matter, but you shared more than what I expected to get out of this video. I definitely had a lot of valuable insights taken away in just under 13 minutes. Thanks for sharing and looking forward to catch more of your content.
My background is digital marketing, thanks for your advice Mo. Very clear and useful! My tip: For coursera’s course, please apply financial aids for free. It’s not difficult!
I am in the process of trying to get my first data analyst job after switching from another career field. This was super helpful. I have a relevant degree, and am doing the popular certs in order to augment my degree and build a portfolio. Thanks for making the perfect roadmap to getting a job, sometimes I get lost in all the things I am trying to do. I refer back to your videos a lot for guidance on how to plan my next steps.
Don't be afraid to accept roles adjacent to data analytics. I got hired as a SQL developer because of my abilities with SQL, and I got a promotion when I switched to my company's analytics team. Working in the SQL developer role helped me tremendously in understanding the kind of data I would be working with as a data analyst and it expanded my SQL skills significantly. I love the path I took to get where I am.
Just finished up your Postgresql tutorial ,I must say it was very insighful since i've just started my journey. Looking forward to starting the Tableau one and also doing the Tableau project.. Keep up the amazing work MO.
This was an extremely helpful video, though I have a question from the position of someone just starting their journey into learning data analytics, I see videos outlining what the day to day of the job is, and how to work on technical skills etc. but it feels so overwhelming looking at it from the beginning of the climb. Did you feel the same way when you first started? I currently work as a labratory technician in CMT so its not necessarily a relivent field, I plan on following along Alex the analyst's course and completing the google analytics certificate, but im just wondering if you also felt overwhelmed when you started, or if maybe a lack of confidence is getting the better of me.
Amazing video and very clear, thank you. As a former language professional I would very much like to get into machine learning but more specifically for NLP, or anything related to automatic translation or so, would you say that it is relevant to start off as a data analyst? I have heard some advice that data analyst is a good gateway to NLP jobs if you don't have a degree in this specific field. Also, do you recommend certificates over starting off a new bachelor? Keeping in mind that a bachelor part time would take 6 years to complete, I imagine the certifications are more worthy?
Great info. So if I wanted to learn SQL through ZTM, if I heard you correctly I should just focus on the data analysis part and not so much the building of databases. Correc
Thanks for the vid. I'm in my mid 30's and am looking to either enhance my current career (sales) with Data Analysis or jump into a new Data Analysis career altogether. Is sales + data analysis a good combo? Would I be able to leverage my experience in sales (account executive and SDR roles) to land a good position relatively quickly? I'd be starting from scratch, with basically zero knowledge of data analysis or any programming knowledge, along with zero knowledge/experience with tableu, sql, etc.
To be completely honest, it'll be very hard to get a data analyst position quickly given you're starting from scratch. That said, if you're willing to put in the time and effort, it is certainly possible to transition into a DA role.
Hello Mo, I live in Germany with no experience in tech, Data analysis, or maths please how can I learn more about data analysis without maths? Please help me
I'm in my sophomore year of college majoring in MIS and Business Analytics minor and Finance minor. Is 2.5 years a realistic time to learn and get an entry-level role?
you think this job is still worth working for in a few years? im thinking about a career switch after my Master thesis, but its still 1.5 years from now. but since AI is taking over, i think data analyst will be replaced, no?
i am planning to get a macbook but second hand. do you think a macbook pro 16 inch 8 core intel I9 2.3 Ghz with 64 GB Ram will be good for using those softwares and work later on as a data analyst. Thank you
Yeah for sure. Getting 2nd hand is a good idea. I'm running my YT channel, editing videos etc on a 2nd hand base M1 Macbook Pro 14. Maybe look into M1 or M2 Macbook Airs - a bit newer and the Apple chips are really good.
Im have a mechanical design engineer background with more than 4 years of experience. I would.like to learn data science. How easy and hard to get job as fresher with different domain (mechanical). If i do all the course from online , what is the probability get placed?
Quick question when you say follow a guide or copy how does that show that you can use the software? I took a class where I had a project to do with tableau and never studied or anything and just followed a RUclips video and got a 100/100. Isn’t that cheating?
If you can re-create something it at least shows that you have the technical understanding to do it. Whether you can actually apply the concepts to real-life problems on your own, that's another question that you'll get tested on during interviews for sure.
What a video Man.. Thank you so much for such amazing advices and links. What do you think about The Business Data Analyst Career module on Codecademy? I’m curious to have your point of view. Many thanks again✨

You worked for Kubrick? I’m just about to start with them and am super stoked. Why did you blur out the name?
as a new learner in this field, in which tools should I put my efforts the most?
Excel, SQL, Tableau/PowerBi, Python/R. That's pretty much what most roles require, from what I understand

How to do the google certification for data analyst for free?
Is a W3schools SQL Certificate worth it? Do recruiters recognize the certificate?
It's a good certificate but certainly not as recognized as the Google certificates.
