This is such a solidly well built house and it's a shame that it's sitting like this.
Please note that when I say Amish in this video, I'm referring to Mennonites who are a different type of Amish and have electricity and other modern amenities.

I will give the freezer owners the benefit of the doubt that they are using them to keep food frozen for themselves and/or others. If you would of tried to open them, they would of probably have been locked only because they wouldn't want someone stealing their food. I'm not niave, I'm just thinking that if they were up to something, you would of probably been kept from seeing them in the first place.

The Amish do not have electricity in their homes, so this home must have been owned by a Mennonite family. I’m curious to know why the family abandoned the home. Great video. 🙏 😊

Correct. I did state it's a Mennonite community in the video.

    • @MeagainIA2011

correction: 'some' Amish have electricity, but was used for farming purposes only, not for pleasure (like reading the bible in the evening, etc.). Purposes for cooling, maybe heating, running the compressor that run the milkers, rather than hand milking 180 head of cows. The Mennonites were more than likely to use electricity than the Amish. (Amish community in Kalona, IA use power for their 'grocery' store, but they won't use it for lighting. There isn't a light switch to be found at least in the shopping area. Its closed before dark anyways.
Funny, they'll use power for their sale barns & cafe's, cheese factories, mills, and stores that make money from their wares, and even their barns for milking, but not one bulb or electric mixer in the kitchen. I find that a bit humorous and sexist thing. (mother and older daughters have to boil water for everybody in the house can bathe. . .by candlelight. I think some orders do use gaslighting).
The basement in this house looked like there was a water cooler. It was where that pump was sitting just inside the door. They were used to keep perishable stuff cold. The water in those coolers can be near ice cold.
When I was little we had a cooling tank where the big milk cans full of milk were kept for the milkman to pick up each morning. Our milkman carried chocolate bars with him and would give to the farm kids sometimes and a .lb of real butter for the mom. (no, I'm not Amish or Mennonite, though I had ancestors who were, just a proud Iowa Sod-Buster's Daughter)
The old fashioned way would be a smallish closet like room with steps that lead to nowhere but up. Blocks of ice were placed on the steps, sawdust/straw used to help insulate and slow the melting process and perishables placed on top or between the blocks of ice. You'll also find these rooms in old Victorian homes.

Other than that, loved the architectural details of the beautiful front entry door and that gorgeous, curved staircase, all the way up to the attic. Nice that it had a metal roof. I hope whoever owns the property will eventually renovate the place. I know it'd be a huge project, but wow, would it look nice! Also really liked the fireplace and the chaise-style sofas were a nice find, as well. Lovely countryside with graceful, rolling hills. Excellent video!! Thanks for bringing us along!❤

The electricity means it wasn't Amish people living there. Some Mennonites still use the horse and buggy and look a lot like Amish. Other Mennonites have electricity and drive cars. That's most likely a Mennonite community.
Glad you didn't run into the serial killer who is storing his bodies in the abandoned house. I was bracing myself waiting for you to open the freezer. I was sure you were going to find bodies. The rest of the house was really cool. My understanding of those three shelf closets is they held two sets of work clothes and your Sunday best. Many old farmhouses have them. The picture montage was excellent as always. Thanks for taking us along with you.
PS. You should go back with a strong friend or two and see what's in the freezer.

I would love to have that house. All the rooms and that wonderful staircase. And I don’t know if the people you mention hunt. With the trap there it makes me think they did. Those freezers could be full of deer meat or fish, and also frozen fruits and vegetables. And there may have been a indoor bathroom, or two. But it could have a been stripped out. But I just love it, thank you so much.

Seens like a neighboring farmer is using the property im sure they have there own home witch would explain the barn being used and not the house and if i had to guess that freezer chest is probably full of meat mostly deer. The amish and Mennonite normally keep things within there church community and will rarely sell property to the"English"

    • @Rooftop_Korean_159
      @Rooftop_Korean_159 Год назад

This is probably the most plausible answer. I can't see someone storing "body parts" in there because it's a little too obvious of a location. Some random person (or JP in this case) could easily walk in there and discover it. But who knows.

Hey Jay wow that was such a large house with plenty of surprises inside such as the 3rd floor .. the rooms just kept coming lol. I'm sad there weren't a toy making it officially abandoned but at least there was remnants of a Christmas tree. What were in those coolers, maybe suspicious but then again maybe not. It is a shame that its been left abandoned though. There must have been a reason why its been left empty. Thanks for showing us round huni as you know I love your explores. As you said, it is definitely not Amish, and is possibly Mennonite (or not), The farm land is most likely being rented by Amish, and they may be using the freezers for food storage. While the Amish do not believe in having electricity wired into their homes, they have no problem taking advantage of it when they can. Is this east of Lancaster (towards Honey Brook)?

After reading some comments I have a theory. That old house is likely being used as a workhouse and storage. The power to the freezers could be to keep products farmed or hunted and stored there to be supplying a local market. It is also my guess the barn has power to it as well and those tire tracks in the grass also suggest that the barn is still actively used. The farmer could be in a newer home and that one left to locals as possible shelter. Too bad about that roof though, left to rot.

What a shame to see what was once a majestic home, go to waste. 😢
Just a guess however I would say the freezers belong to the Mennonite families, most likely one freezer per family, to store winter meats. I would have had to peel inside, at least one of them. 😊
