      @@Smeaf Modelling and animating an entire scene in Blender, then using Unreal as a real time renderer seems like it could be a good way to get around long render times (obviously the lighting won't be exactly the same, but the quality could be good enough that differences won't matter)

      Yeah, I hope there is a way to make it compatible for android also.
      Honestly, if it came down to it, and I didn't have an iPhone, i'd buy one as a business expense because this is way more cost efficient method for the long run, compared to other solutions.

      @@Smeaf Yeah that's what I was thinking too. I don't want to switch to it as a phone, but as a device (mainly for mocap). Do they even make iPods anymore? Because if iPods are still a thing and have some of the same defining features of iPhones then I'm game

      I forgot to cover this, yes it can be used on any metahuman OR character model rig! 🤯 (As long as it follows the new Metahuman Standard)

    The face animation is basically the expression animation; real thing of unreal is its handling of millions of Verts.

    I love the amount of risk they took on weird concepts in the PS2/360 era. It should show us that GRAPHICS/Reflections are not most important. No. If you can create satisfying movement, gameplay mechanics, physics effects, responsive parts of a environment, a environment that makes you want to explore it, engage it, etc. That stuff is so important. Not just "who can make the largest game world, or a game with the best Graphics." I think Art style, design, vibe, aesthetic is much more important. You don't need top notch graphics to greatly appreciate and enjoy playing that game. That's why we are seeing such a resurgence of players who have gone back to playing older games because they realize the aspects of gaming that they care about and are unhappy with in most modern games. So hopefully gaming will enter a new era. That mixes in aspects of the older era's. With our modern capabilities that will hopefully help make it easier to create a satisfying game. As well as a vast range of game's Instead of everything trying to be Triple AAA or free to play online battle Royale games..

      Npc ahh comment. I'd understand this comment if it were made a few years earlier as with gamedev it really was one or the other but now it's not. Like, You do realize by lowering the bar to entry for graphics in terms of how easy it is to make it and how computationally light it is to run, that resources can be funneled into the more important things you mentioned in your comment. Like, did you know you can use nanite with chaos physics, meaning high fidelity graphics with tangible physical interaction? We are onto that new era, and more games need to take advantage of that

    That is super cool, but it seems like more of a "changed mocap forever" news than an animation revolution in general. It will be great to see what indie studios will achieve with quality mocap becoming more accessible like this.

      Yea, dont really see how furthering tech to make Mocap easier is an animation revolution. Its an animation killer. As more and more "animators" focus workflows on cleaning mocap rather than knowing how to animate, we will have an even bigger deficit of animation talent, which will lead to even more use of mocap over real animation.

      @@rymonsta Mocap is not real animation. No skilled, passionate animator busts their ass in one of the most difficult artistic disciplines with the dreams of one day being a digital janitor cleaning up mocap data lmao
      Mocap gives you faster, cheaper results in exchange for an inferior result. Thats all it is. Well done, real animation is better in every way.

      @@SuWoopSparrow As a 3D character animator who hand-keys every day, I appreciate your respect for my practice! Mocap is definitely the most common way to cut corners in animation, but not all mocap is done to cut corners. There's some fantastic mocap out there that took extremely skilled, passionate animators to achieve. Your dislike for mocap doesn't change the fact that it's real animation. It's extremely tedious and in some ways, harder than what I do. It's okay to just say you don't like it.

      @@rymonsta So what do the extremely skilled, passionate animators do in a motion capture pipeline other than clean up, if that? As ND says - "If the mocap is good enough, we dont even clean up!"
      It being harder in some ways than what you do has nothing to do with the discipline of animation. Motion Capture as a technology is quite amazing and cool. It also takes quite a lot of technical/technical art skill to accomplish. Good acting is a factor, too. Unfortunately, most captured motion (in games at least) doesnt come from highly skilled actors. However, many of those skills are not really related to the actual artistic discipline of animation.

      Honestly, if you're a hard worker it really doesn't matter :)

    Bro, you got it REALLY WRONG! The procedural content generator DO NOT skip the modeling process. It just take the 3D assets many artists have MADE and place them according to rules set by the generator. 😢

    As impressive as the tech is - the car driving through the jungle environment still isn't photoreal. It still just looks like an incredibly good video game.
    Its amazing how far this tech has evolved and the progress that has been made but its also still not really there in terms of full photorealism.

    May I ask you a piece of advice regarding the specs of the pc I should use to do animation in Blender or Unreal? Do you think an old RTX 3060 with 12gb of vram is enough? And do you think a desktop machine is essential, or is it possible to do animation with a laptop? A laptop rtx 3060 has only 6gb of vram, do you think it's too weak of a graphic card?

    It is really cool, but the mouth movement capture is extremely uncanny, it's like the lips are stiff and are just pulled by the facial muscles. You can see this on both the target meshes they animate in the example from the actor.

    Unreal comes out with all these neat features. BUT their filesizes continues on to grow with the more things that they
    add. So I not been taking much notice. Because the files take up too much space.

    I'm honest, when it comes to realism Unreal Engine would never be my number one choice. I'm not talking about the graphic quality, but games with Unreal Engine do look like games. That's fine, but "games" aside i would use a different rendering prog like Lumion or so.

    As long nanite isn't working for Dynamically breakable objects with chaos physic ,nanite will be a meh
    It's a huge limitation of this engine.
    I omknow you can pre-cut for breakable objects
    But nothing Dynamical, it's all manual
