This 118 Tower is a very beautiful building when you looking from a distance during sunset time; I’m living in Bangsar South, every late afternoon you can enjoy the changing colour of the building when sunset reflects on the diamond shaped of the glass panels; sometimes golden, sometimes silver, or grey or white colour…. Sometimes like a burning rocket… It’s amazing to watch it, otherwise you don’t admire when you see it just a normal high rise building…
That sounds like a terrific view. We have some nice views in NYC but the increasingly high crime rate ruins everything that's nice.😢 I hope people's lives are far better in Malaysia.

The reason why we managed to finish the construction is because Malaysia was located in Straits of Malacca, the busiest straits in the world. Most of world trade routes will eventually pass through Straits of Malacca. So we got a lot of materials to build due to this. If the weather was more cooperative, it will be finished ahead of time. Indonesia can also do this too if they take advantage of the Straits of Malacca trade routes to get materials to build a lot of stuff. That's a fine-looking mega-tall building. Kuala Lumpur really got their stuff together. It looks like a gorgeous city. With the Petronas Towers and now Merdeka 118 that city has quite a bit of status. Good for them. They have my respect. It's funny. When I was a teenager in the 1960s, I figured with the Empire State building in NYC, America could never be beat in skyscraper construction. I was sure wrong about that. There are so many countries building super-tall towers and leaving America in the dust. Things sure can change in 50 years. A country can go from the top to the bottom or vice versa in that span of time. America gave up on trying to have the tallest buildings because they're too costly. I barely glance at Liberty Tower in Manhattan knowing it's way down in the super-tall building list. Oh, well... the whole world is changing and nothing lasts forever. I'm sure even the Burj Khalifa will eventually be surpassed in height.
Construction in KL is completely chaotic, everything is wildly mixed up. When I first came to the city (1999) you could see the Twin Towers and Menara KL from any point in the city for orientation. Now you can't see anything. When I visit Malaysia nowadays, I go straight to Penang or Melaka. Or to the Islands.
There is already 30% Commercial Office Space access (glut) in downtown KL, but construction of these super Platinum Rate Towers are continuing with many more plans...
What's the environmental cost? All these mega-talls [also see New York] are extremely expensive in energy use. Oh, they're beautiful and impressive, but come with a heavy price.

I like to see buildings constructed, but I just don't get mega talls. They talk a good 'housing' game, but I'd be curious to know the occupancy rate with many of them.
It's not only about housing and commercial real estate. It's about the pull of tourist dollars and being an iconic international landmark. It is about the prestige and charm. Not just about being tall, but also about the design value and architectural uniqueness.
The decision to build the Petronas twin tower has put Malaysia into the global map. Many people were able to recognize or at least heard of the twin tower even though they have never been to Malaysia. Just take a look at the number of people who visited Malaysia on RUclips and talked about the twin tower because it's so prominent and iconic. Merdeka PNB-118 will not only be the new icon of Malaysia but attracts businesspeople, investment and tourism to the country due to its prestige as the world's 2nd tallest tower in the world. People who know little about Malaysia will at least know that the 2nd tallest building is located in Malaysia. That's the main goal of mega structures, it's to be distinct from the rest
I suppose it's always cool to look down on everyone else and also have an unobstructed view of the rest of the city. There's also the plus of a great OTA signal for your 4K TV.😂
There was a time when building a huge tall building was an indication of a country's engineering prowess and a source of pride. However today - it is more a show of wealth than anything else since MOST of these buildings are designed by International Architectural firms. Unfortunately such tall buildings are simply a new target for terrorists more than anything else. Both the Empire State Building and the Freedom Tower in NYC are hard to get people to lease space in - especially the upper floors. Even the old World Trade Center Towers would have been the same if it were not for the Port Authority and other NY and NJ government agencies that had space in those sites. For a city like NY where FLOOR space comes at a premium, they still build relatively tall buildings when lots become available - normally with something already there. But in most of these other Cities, the need to build a huge monolith is simply PRIDE and little else - a group of smaller buildings will be both cheaper and easier to develop. As long as humans have egos, there will be taller and taller buildings. The question of whether they will be commercially successful will come later - especially as they are overtaken by the newer ones that will inevitably be built.
Given the emptying out of office buildings in the U.S. due to remote workers, I'll be surprised if they can even fill one third of the space in this unnecessary tower.
