This doesn't surprise me. A lot of Florida sits on a honeycomb of limestone. Even though there was pilings drove deep into the ground, with millions of pounds of weight coupled with pumping millions of gallons of water from underground, yes I can see these massive buildings sinking. Liquid cannot be compressed and without water filling the honeycombed limestone the limestone will probably start caving in on itself for it's not that strong without the water.
@ That’s funny, because the video literally says 3mm. Inches, millimeters, feet, what’s the difference, right, Mr. Science? All buildings do this. Good lord, even the Brady Bunch did an episode about it. So I guess in 10 years they all will have collapsed, right? Bookmark this video and come back in 2035 with a new batch of excuses.
Hello, I am one of the authors of the study. Thank you for this summary of our work. Let me point out 3 errors in the video: (1) Intruded saltwater does not weaken the limestone. In fact, the limestone is saturated with saltwater. However, injected freshwater (form storms) can be a problem as freshwater dissolves limestone. That is how you get karst landscapes. The dissolution process is very, very slow, however. One of the hypothesized subsidence mechanisms is that this dissolution is much faster under the heavy load of high-rise. (2) You are showing an image of the Ritz Carlton residences in Miami Beach. The subsiding Ritz Carlton tower is located in Sunny Isles Beach. (3) We don't have any observations for the new Bentley Residences. We see subsidence at the structure that was removed to make place for the Bentley Residences. We call it in the paper the Bentley development site.
A building sinking evenly is bad enough. A building sinking unevenly, causing it to tilt or lean, is quite another, far more significant, issue. The Miami Beach courthouse might statr sinking from the weight of all the lawsuits against builders that will likely be filed.
@@michaeladam3190 Lol climate change is real. According to multiple studies and scientific consensus, an overwhelming majority of scientists, often cited as over 99%, believe that climate change is happening and is primarily caused by human activity. I would rather listen to the scientists than someone posting a comment on a RUclips channel
Given the stupidity and ignorance of these people, and the Miami and florida governments, the federal insurance agency for flood insurance should NOT issue any coverage for any of these skyscrapers. There are consequences to stupidity, and we the taxpayer should NOT support these greedy billionaire developers.
The chickens are coming home to roost. Anyone who I knew that moved from the northeast US to Florida told me that they had low cost of living and beautiful weather. It always sounded too good to me. Unfortunately a lot of babyboomers and Gen X people are losing everything because of the ruinous storms and new laws requiring building owners and HOAs to submit to rigorous inspection. Has anyone down there heard about what happened in Miami in 1926?
Five story structures constructed in these areas in the 50's were considered to close to the OCEAN on unsuitable soils. However now same soil conditions even closer to the OCEAN and developers are receiving development permits to construct 50 story skyscrapers. It's all about money. When these owned structures become but uninhabitable no matter the iconic name on the building the developers will be long gone and the civic officials who provided approval for construction will be retired. Good thing the condo owners are made of money cus they are gonna loose it. Washed out to sea with the very sand and limestone they are RESTING on. The last tragic example was caused by building to damn close to the ocean on unsuitable soils. People never learn. Developers /buyers won't be happy until they are constructing skyscrapers over the ocean. Best view in the world for a while.
Tall buildings should never have been allowed to be built in Florida. It’s a slow motion mega disaster - anyone with hi-rise property there should pull out and sell NOW!
Who could have ever guessed that building on sand and soft limestone was a bad idea? I mean they're only adding billions of pounds on top of sand and soft rock
Concerning the size of the Florida, here is a something from the Internet: "The current state of Florida was smaller about 20,000 years ago during the last ice age. This was due to lower sea levels which exposed more land that is currently underwater. As the ice age ended and sea levels rose, this exposed land was covered making Florida's size what it is now".
Millions of dollars to be made by the insurance industry are great for them but bad for consumers .more money paid less and money paid out ,huge profits for insurance companies and it's mandatory by state regulations ,a sweet deal !!!
The sinking is one aspect. Another is the rise of sea level which is probably worse. Greed makes people voluntarily wear blinkers and do very stupid things.
I don't know if the narrator is AI, an intern or just never spent an amount of time in Miami Dade. The video is all over the place. Miami, Miami Beach, Sunny Isles are different place in Miami Dade County not Miami. Around 8:00 something about new construction. Bentley Tower is going up in Sunny Isles Beach. Also, new construction does not go forward until a certain amount of pre-sales are done before ground even breaks. MB TOWER CONDO IS NOT UNDER CONSTRUCTION. Lastly, many people never live in this buildings as they are pied-à-terre. It's Dezer not Deezer...The reference from UM is correct. The mention is that there is no need to panic. The adj condo next to the fallen condo - the survivors / families of the dead sued that developer. I do not know of the out come of that suit.
Where exactly can these so called rising sea levels be seen? Been going to the Keys and other areas of the south land for the last 40 years and I visit the same beaches that are always there year after year. So by all means show some PROOF and DATA to backup this claim of these unseen rising sea levels!
Miami is a failure and deserve it. It's no way a sustainable city. Miami is an example of what not to do when it comes to city planning. Good thing I have been planning for a city that would possibly be located in the everglades.
They'll just abandon them and stick the state with thy bill

I don’t believe a word . Skyscrapers too much weight for the earth to bear? Ya ok. Just a great way to create an enormous addendum for the condo owners to repair .
@johnl5316 No its actually increasing. Every scientist agency that monitors it has recorded significant rise over the last 40 years that is steadily increasing.
Ever hear of the "Thwaltes Glacier"? they call it the "Doomsday Glacier" rapidly melting for the past 30 years, it will cause sea levels to rise 2 feet When this happens the rest of the ice on that continent will melt causing rises of 10 ft. Homes in CA are already falling into the sea as well as in the UK on the coast of the North Sea. FL could fall fate of what happened to Doggerland connecting the UK to continental Europe, now at the bottom of the North sea. People who plan to live in these newly built monstrosities on Miami Beach would be better off buying a houseboat. I'm an old FL native, I clearly see the erosion. The scrap concrete and boulders they place on shore lines now ain't for decoration and dredging continues to constantly restore these beaches at the cost of millions to tax payers!
So, how does Miami attempt to handle this crisis of sinking skyscrapers? With the building of not less, but more skyscrapers.
They will ignore it until it no longer is profitable then they will blame democrats.
Lol humans are greedy they all was want more

No empathy for greed. You've been informed and chose to go forward. No Sympathy. Whatever happens...happens.
Dont build your house on the sand.
🤔 I’ve heard that somewhere 🙏🏾
Sadly, conservatives dont open their Bibles enough to know what that means. Hence MIAMI.
Buildings are built on bedrock, Einstein.

MIAMI...CONSERVATUVE 😅@@josephaltman460
Money is destroying America, from our government to our shores
Greedy developers gave you what you deserve for building on the edge, 5 feet above sea level in a hurricane prone area.
Two Trump Towers are at risk. 😁👍
@@meggarstang6761 All i can say is....TIMMMMM-BERRRR
I remember that famous carpenter of Galilee - who explained to us exactly why we shouldn't build a house on sand - well...
was the carpenter licensed to give structural advice..?
They know this is happening, and yet they continue to build more! That’s the epitome of stupid to me!
As long as someone is stupid enough to buy...
Well, the state is very Red and it's been run by the Republicans for decades.
Adults don't learn the boring stuff, lol. Too busy living life having fun to learn.

Need to build on a bedrock foundation, not a castle made of sand.
If the problem is known why are they continuing to build skyscrapers Isn’t criminal?
New ones are built better, my best guess is some will have to be torn down or re-done to have a better base holding them up.
Greed

Geez, what an old, old story: humans' capacity for denial and avoidance. Well, the rich will be living in the mud soon enough!
What would you expect when you build these big heavy monstrosities on a sandbar for crying out loud! L O L
Spot on
Greed has and will always be the downfall of society. We refuse to learn the mistakes from the past and will suffer the consequences again and again.
Looks like Miami is the new Venice but not in a good way!
The whole state is sinking, & the faster the better!
*New York City* city is built on schist which is bedrock. It faces *_rising_*_ sea levels._

Yeah, how’s that deregulation working for rich businesses working out for Florida!!!
Mesh (with joint connections) link the skyscrapers under the ground.
There is no skyscrapers in the design district.
Don't worry. The skyscrapers are tall and new underground garage slots capacities are always needed.

This has nothing to do with sea levels
The sea has been rising for 15,000 years and the rate of rise has remained steady for 100 years (and that is much slower than it used to be)
Global warming is melting huge chunks of the ice and snow covering Antarctica. Expect a 3-4 feet global sea levels rise by 2100 compared to 2000.

Good lord. All buildings “sink.” You need to take this video down.
They don't sink 5 inches in 10 yrs
@ If they are “sinking” at 5mm per year, that is less than 2 inches in a building’s first decade, which is totally normal. Do better and do math.
