We were in Tromsø in august 2017 and it was sunny and 25-27C degrees for the whole trip in Norway, while back home in southern Finland it was miserably rainy and windy. When we crossed the border back to Finland in Kilpisjärvi, it was raining cats and dogs.
After that I´ve visited Troms and Finnmark or Lofoten every year, even when the pandemic was active. Us Finns were welcomed since we´re good neighbors.

1:20 It says that the church was built in 1861, the organ (big piano) was installed in 1863 and it was used to house people that had to evacuate their homes during WWII in 1944.

At the end of WW2 the german used the Scorched Earth strategy in the north, so they burned down alot of Finnmark and forced evacuation of the local population, Tromsø was a transportation hub for the evacuees ... before they where sent to other parts of Norway. there where like atleast 30-40 000 people, and while still thousands escaped the german forces and choosed to stay behind ... they had to survive a hard northern winter where they did not really have any housings and low on food as the retreating forces also killed off farm-animals and even pets.

Isn't that a stunning country?! I'm totally crazy about Norway. I have driven around the country quite much with my RV and I never get enough of it. That camera feature of Google translate is cool. I have used it abroad too. In Norway I usually understand signs etc. because I can understand Swedish (that's mandatory to study at school in Finland) and Norwegian is so close relative to Swedish that texts are mostly understandable. Understanding their speech is usually impossible, though.

I have been wondering about one thing about you Americans who are fascinated by Norway. Why? You have midnight sun in Alaska. You have polar lights in Alaska. Yes, the Vikings didn't live there, but the nature is just as fascinating in Alaska. Okay, Norway is a different culture, so that might be a point.
Is it because you have ancestors from Norway?

Did a search just now and like Radisson Blue that is like smack at the centrum and you have to pay like almost 7000 nok for a night !!! crazy.

@@JacobandJennyTravel You have articulated a truth that transcends your consciousness. The existence of this pub can be attributed solely to an antiquated law that allows the sale of alcohol for establishments of a certain diminutive scale, exempting it from strict regulatory oversight. It stands as a unique entity, as modern businesses are subject to the constraints of up-to-date legislation. The inherent lameness lies in the assumption that individuals lack the courage to decline when approached and addressed by a bartender. It's just sad Norway is unable to get a mature relationship with alcohol. Then this nonsense wouldn't be necessary. Pretty embarrassing to put it mildly.

@@JacobandJennyTravel What he says is completely wrong. Tromsø is an arctic city. In fact, the city is far north of the Arctic Circle. Tromsø is 350 kilometers (217 mi) north of the Arctic Circle. Even though Tromsø lies at a very high latitude, Tromsø is considerably warmer than other places at the same latitude. This is due to the presence of the Gulf Stream.
