Me and MK1’s single player content ain’t getting along very well. MK11 had these character specific challenges to unlock character towers that unlocked gear, which I loved because it helped incentivize hopping around characters. Honestly what kills me about Megan's performance as Nitara is that there are moments where it's decent, *almost* good! But it's like they rushed it or something and didn't have her ham it up at all. Bums me out cuz I was excited about Megan being in this. Like, if they do some big update or some shit for adding more to the story mode, I think they should get Megan back in to redo her lines.
She definitely deserves a fair shake. They failed her on this one, I have to say. I feel like Megan’s performance is better than Ronda’s mainly because Nitara is mostly a jobber and Sonya was a major character in MK11’s story. But yeah the fact that they got a professional va to do all of Nitara’s grunts and screams while Megan Fox did all the lines still bewilders me.
Nah, the fact they had to get a pro to do the VA work on screams is proof Megan fox had no business voice acting nitara. I understand using her for a 3d model cause she used to be super hot, but her VA is so Terrible and bland, not to mention you can literally see her lack of effort in the trailer
@@G1nger519NRS also kinda botch how they translate Megan into the game. I'm guessing when they mocapped her, she wasn't wearing that much or even any makeup. So Nitara's face looked more like makeup-less Megan than the Megan that people recognised from movies. She still looked good, but there is a reason why movie magic is a thing.
It really seems like Warner Bros rushed this game out sadly. After that conference call when it was announced for this year, I feel Ed boon and team were shocked by that and had to get it out. The game is great in ways with the story and gameplay and even some skins are sick but a lot is missing. I’m sure they will patch everything and get it back to where it needs to be!

Guys, the Switch version is missing Invasions past cage Mansion. It's fucking fucked. Actually grab a fucking copy and put yourself in the shoes of people who bought the Switch version. People are pissed about mk1 on one hand and even MORE pissed about the switch version.
Invasion mode is impossible to enjoy and they even removed character intros from arcade mode/towers. I do play online but MK1 is still more of a story bluray with an "online match" special feature than an actual game. A lot to love about this Mortal kombat... but notably less than any others since Armageddon or so.
I do fall under the camp where this game feels rushed and needed several more months in the oven cause you can't even plat the game at the moment cause it's missing content. Thanks live service gaming
Ronda is a better VA than Megan Fox, but neither of them is good. Stallone and the Robocop actor, on the other hand, did an amazing job in the previous game.
Not me, Street Fighter has always felt too footsy based for my liking. I always roll my eyes when my opponent starts walking back and forth for 20 seconds, I need a bit more crazy shenanigans which MK1 offers.
I'm the complete opposite street fighter 6 is good so I'm not crapping on it but I haven't put MK1 down while I haven't got back into SF6 since Rasheed
That's where people like Max and me differ... I only ever play the single player portion of games like these and mostly play versus locally. I just hope devs don't forget about people like me to only appeal to pros and youtubers.
Bruh, are you saying that only pros and youtubers play online lmao? If you just took like two seconds to lab some combos I'm pretty sure you'd win a match or two.
@@DiSCERiTY I have no issues winning one match or two online, in fact, I do so in SF6 to get the daily/weekly challenge rewards... I just don't care about it. I was just saying guys like Max only care about the online, but there's also guys like me who don't.
"Chucky" Oh shit. I just remembered that there was one specific leaked Kameo and suddenly I just realized something: Chucky could be a kameo too. Hell, this would be the best way to get him into Mortal Kombat while allowing him to do at least one fatality for the amusement of the world.
MK1 has given us alot of great options and the Kameo assists are very good in mixing up the gameplay and it’s excellent to see them working on improving the mechanics with combos and with the Fatality input system
How can you not realize the color this season is themed to Scorpion 🤷♂️ ....and the Seasons are not quarterly at all. They are 6 weeks with mid season updates. Surprised they are completely unaware.
To be fair, I don’t think a lot of us knew that. I’ve been somewhat following development and missed this news myself. They also prerecord these by a bit, so it’s possible that they learned this after the session. *Forgot to mention this was in reference to the seasonal news. The colors were likely just them joking or stating that they just didn’t like them.
Jesus Christ, Megan Fox as Nitara sound so awful that I actually preferred listening to Ronda Rousey as Sonya and Dimitri Vegas as Sub zero than her No. This is not a joke. I’m being serious.
On match making I can get a match at other places but when I play at home I never get a match and I have better internet then my friends and family so I’ve been stuck grinding every but online matches 😢
I’m surprised how almost nobody mentions how METER DEPENDED MK1 has become. I never played a game that is this barebones without meter. Every meter-less combo start the exact same and even combo’s with meter look very similar. No meter is no cooking. Plus many specials are useless. Like they are only effective when meter burned.. also how delayed the game feels it’s hard to punish on reaction. It really looks like a stiff punish game now. I could do mix ups and very long combos in previous MK games without spending meter. Meter added more potential but it wasn’t required as in MK1
I am very curious what Season 2 of SF6 will look like...will it be SF4-focused, like Season 1 was SF5-focused? There is a certain poetry to saving the SF3 veterans for Season 3...
Game has the least comtent/features from any modern NRS game. I personally think the game was indeed rushed out due to Suicide Squad being delayed to next year. WB needed something for the fiscal year it seems so they wanted to push out MK1 sooner maybe. However. 4 years bruh? 4 years and you have less than half the content than a game like injustice 2 which had a turn around frame of 2 years since its last game (mkx). To me thats just INSANE. Last theory on why Mk1 Feels so underbaked is because of the new engine switch. They wanted to pump out a "filler" game to get some familiarity tech wise before going all out again on a project like the last few NRS games content wise.
You know what I think happened? I think it’s what you said about them needing something for the fiscal year and I think originally they were making injustice 3 but for whatever reason shifted completely to mk sometime during the pandemic and that’s why it turned out this way even though the timeline doesn’t make sense. We came in thinking okay they had 4 years to do this but maybe it was only 2 years and they just left injustice 3 on the shelf half finished then will pick it back up now that MK1 is out and that will be the next game in 2025. Could be way off on this but I just find it wierd they had this rotating schedule but randomly decided to do 2 mortal Kombat games in a row even though both injustice games were hella successful and they set it up for a third. It’ll be interesting to see if now that the pandemic has passed they go back to their regular schedule of a game every 2 years from alternating franchises. Another thing to keep in mind too is in interviews right before mk11 dropped in 2019 Ed boon mentioned wanting to create an entirely new IP and we still haven’t got that so maybe that’s what is next or maybe the new IP was what they working on at first and pivoted to MK cus they needed to get something out and that is easier to make cus you can reuse a ton of assets and models
I like MK1 but it has a long way to go. I can’t believe there’s no progression in regular versus mode! It’s only online and invasions. I hope they add progression in versus mode eventually. That’s where I spend most of my time in fighting games. Online is fun but not the only mode in the game! I’m over invasions mode too. Regular versus reward progression please!!! MK1 is hard! Using Kameo Assists you have to use them like cancels. I still hope they speed up some of the normals and combos that seem slow but otherwise I’m liking it a lot more than I expected. I personally don’t think Mortal Kombat should be an assist game. I enjoy my NRS Mortal Kombat games as 1v1 Fighters. Even with Kameo assists, I think it still feels like 1v1 classic Fighter more than a tag/assist fighter. Even though I prefer interactables over kameos I still love MK1 and I hope this game has a bright future. NRS please add reward progression to offline versus mode! MK11 had it! Not everyone enjoys online and invasions. Some of us are comfortable with versus mode!
Funny they mentioned how to grind Invasions Endurance matches for the best way to level up cause I am doing that now while I listen to this and have been since yesterday…no it is not fun…anyway I gotta get back to it

It was absolutely just in SFV overly cartoony artstyle. In the damn comics and in 6 Fang looks exactly how he SHOULD have, a badass cool reference to 80s and 90s martial arts movie villains.
Two thoughts about the Switch version: 1. I'm glad it exists, especially on physical, so tweens who aren't allowed to play Mortal Kombat will be able to borrow it from friends and play it in handheld mode without their parents knowing. Don't act like you didn't pull shit like that when you were that age. 2. I think pricing it at $70 was the right call. If John Casual was shopping at Walmart and saw the Switch version was $30 cheaper, they'd probably choose that one and be soured on MK1. I think once digital sales start the Switch version will probably get a deeper price cut than the current gen ones to encourage double dips.
I feel like im going crazy, why isnt everyone mad at mk1 its literally worse in every way than mk 11 aside from the combos (which also are broken mind you) and the bugs. Also its a competitive game where player 1 hitbox is bigger than player 2s...i don't get it
they fixed the player 1 thing. also there is a bunch of people mad at the game, the subreddit was basically a spam of people talking sh!t about the game in the early weeks. even here in brazil (MK fanboys country) people are complaining about the bad story and lack of single player content, bugs, bad online, etc...
I hate Gacha elements in modern games, especially in fighting games, so I am happy that we instead got the Character Mastery for unlocking a lot of the stuff for the characters, though I do understand why people think it is a bit too slow to level up in that. But when Justin said he liked the Gacha stuff in fighting games, I involuntarily let out a "Fuck you!" 🤣 Makes sense why he doesn't like the Mastery system then. Overall, to me personally, I think this is the best NRS game so far. Gameplay, roster, aesthetics etc. are just so good, imo! Story is the best so far (up until a certain point), because I really didn't like the whole Revenants plot throughout MK9-MK11. And I am not a fan of all the time-shenanigans. And MOST of MK1's story is without any of those things, and I really enjoyed that! Once all the bugs and errors have been fixed, a few more characters and a bit more content have been added, and a bit of balancing done to some of the characters, then this will be the best Mortal Kombat game to date, imo.
Is it crazy for me to say that MK1 is better because it was rushed....??? I feel like, with time, QA would have pushed back on all the crazy stuff we can do.
so, none of these people are going to provide Negative Feedback regarding the 50-90 percent kombo damage/resets ?? why are they not addressing THE MAIN PROBLEM in the game?
I feel like Suicide Squad getting all the hate that it did is the exact reason this game is incomplete. The former got delayed inevitably, and Warner Brothers needed a game out the door, so MK1 was the prime target. Doesn't matter to them if the game is finished or not, because casuals don't usually wana play competitively, and as long as there are dudes online who force their squeemish girlfriends to watch fatality compilations for quick views, WB stays winning.
I think the progression taking a long time is a feature not a flaw. Wasn’t the point of the progression system designed to give you more unlocks and rewards spaced out over the course of the 2 years. When I think of how little there is in term of unlock to reward the insane amount of hours I’ve put into Ken and Rashid in SF6.

Really hoping a patch rolls out soon introducing more features for its online offerings though.
Cause I feel the online is a hard step back in comparison to previous NRS fighters. Forget comparing to what SF6 has….but against the recent MK fighters.
Juri is basically to A.K.I what that recent meme is with those 2 girls being uncomfortable. “Fakers/posers when a real one shows up”. It’s great.
So I looked up Cristina Vee…..why is Megan Fox involved in this project ? I don’t…I do not…I can’t understand.
Do you actually not get why?
I’m sure they will patch everything and get it back to where it needs to be!
agreed, nobody is talking about how atrocious the PC port is. No crossplay, missing a bunch of basic features
@@terable3536 how can you about that port when the switch port exist? The child that is getting Ds in school doesn’t look bad when comparing to the child that is in jail
@@AnhDonoi they need to refund switch folk immediately how did this even go through testing
@@terable3536that kind of seems to be a problem across all games right now. It’s ironic because pc is the most capable platform with the most possibilities and settings and all that yet so many games are broken af on pc when they come out. I swear anytime a big game drops if it has problems on console those problems are double or even triple as bad on pc. I think maybe it could be because technically most games are developed with consoles in mind and then ported to pc afterwards as opposed to developed specific for that platform
half the story was good
I still will not understand why MK1 is on the switch and not PS4
Would be so lit you all to get Rooflemonger on the podcast🔥
something else to add to Nitara. i dont know if it is just me, but it even sounds like her voice is twice as loud and recorded with a totally different microphone
Guys, the Switch version is missing Invasions past cage Mansion.
It's fucking fucked.
Actually grab a fucking copy and put yourself in the shoes of people who bought the Switch version. People are pissed about mk1 on one hand and even MORE pissed about the switch version.
No no it’s not the same amount of content. Try playing invasions on your switch right now. Go ahead.
"it's all there..."
@@TigBlack7 on the switch version? No it def is not. Hasn’t been sense release. You can walk up to johnnys front door. Then it’s done.

@@TigBlack7 ohhhhhh. I’m sorry brother. I was like wait did they finally patch it. Because lord knows my version is all kinds of broken.
I hope Matt finishes the story mode next time so the review doesn't have to be corked like this.
Invasion mode is impossible to enjoy and they even removed character intros from arcade mode/towers. I do play online but MK1 is still more of a story bluray with an "online match" special feature than an actual game. A lot to love about this Mortal kombat... but notably less than any others since Armageddon or so.
I just saw the new Ken costume, and damn 😂
Thank you so much for the review!!
Do we now need to refer to Baraka as "FORMER Jobber to the Stars?"
Ok so I’m not crazy because I have yet to see the intro dialogues in-game… 1:25:24
I do fall under the camp where this game feels rushed and needed several more months in the oven cause you can't even plat the game at the moment cause it's missing content. Thanks live service gaming
It'll be great when it's finished.

Amazing Episode! Thanks T.K.O! I'm having a good time with MK1 too! But yeah it has their rush title issues, hope it gets fixed.
Ronda is a better VA than Megan Fox, but neither of them is good. Stallone and the Robocop actor, on the other hand, did an amazing job in the previous game.
Riddick and Furiosa as guest characters, with TARS and Audrey II as guest cameos.
I'm new to these shows, why was there so much sf6 preamble before talking about mk1? I'm confused because the episode is titled mk1 review
I gotta be honest, the more I play mk1, the more i love it!!! Such a fun gameplay and cool visuals. And the story, best in the franchise!!!
1:07:26 how dope would it be if triple ko had guest cameos 😂
I’m already bored with Mk1 it’s unfortunate man while SF6 I just keep loving it more and more it’s insane how different those 2 games really are.
Not me, Street Fighter has always felt too footsy based for my liking. I always roll my eyes when my opponent starts walking back and forth for 20 seconds, I need a bit more crazy shenanigans which MK1 offers.
@@BananaSandwich3000Drive meter and fireballs aren't crazy enough?
@@X-Axel Nah, using Drive meter sacrifices some combos and 90% of the time you usually just block high or low.
I'm the complete opposite street fighter 6 is good so I'm not crapping on it but I haven't put MK1 down while I haven't got back into SF6 since Rasheed
When DLCs come out you're going to delete your comment. lol
Im on MK 1 more right now but from my experience I'd rather fight JP and Ken than a Baraka/ Cyrax and JC/ Cyrax
I'd rather fight literally anyone from mk1 then fight zangief or Honda or blanka
"Chucky"
Oh shit. I just remembered that there was one specific leaked Kameo and suddenly I just realized something: Chucky could be a kameo too. Hell, this would be the best way to get him into Mortal Kombat while allowing him to do at least one fatality for the amusement of the world.
Holy shit dude chucky could be and amazing kameo lol that would be so cool to see
MK1 has given us alot of great options and the Kameo assists are very good in mixing up the gameplay and it’s excellent to see them working on improving the mechanics with combos and with the Fatality input system
How can you not realize the color this season is themed to Scorpion 🤷♂️
....and the Seasons are not quarterly at all.
Jesus Christ, Megan Fox as Nitara sound so awful that I actually preferred listening to Ronda Rousey as Sonya and Dimitri Vegas as Sub zero than her
No. This is not a joke. I’m being serious.
On match making I can get a match at other places but when I play at home I never get a match and I have better internet then my friends and family so I’ve been stuck grinding every but online matches 😢
Ed Tweeted Raiden and Sub-Zero out of the blue and 1 year+ later they were DLC.
I'm having so much fun with MK1 man. Story mode was great and the core gameplay works a lot for me, love the kameo system.
I am very curious what Season 2 of SF6 will look like...will it be SF4-focused, like Season 1 was SF5-focused? There is a certain poetry to saving the SF3 veterans for Season 3...
I get it, but I don't know if I can wait that long for the SF3 reps.
JVD's voice acting was awful, too.
Funny they mentioned how to grind Invasions Endurance matches for the best way to level up cause I am doing that now while I listen to this and have been since yesterday…no it is not fun…anyway I gotta get back to it
I saw the grappler baki collab, cool to see but the art style was more early manga/cover art than i would have liked. Imagine if Yujiro was in SF

No. Towers of time were awful
The story was way better than MK11's.

Talk about the broken combo trials 🤦🏿♂️
It was absolutely just in SFV overly cartoony artstyle. In the damn comics and in 6 Fang looks exactly how he SHOULD have, a badass cool reference to 80s and 90s martial arts movie villains.
Two thoughts about the Switch version:
I love how kung Lao and raiden mention Kai. I’m like in the minority of wanting a Kai dlc
I feel you, Max. Sometimes my shit also doesn’t come out
Good video.
Speaking of Capcom making a female version of a character that everyone hated. Marisa is basically female Abigail.
I think Manon is closer to Abigail, especially in terms of fighting style and conceptualizing

It’s a fun broken game, I do wish the pc port was better(all openings, fatal blows, are locked to 30fps, among other things)
Those Megan Fox voice lines are drier than a rotisserie Chicken has been left out for a little too long.
Great episode!
I hate Gacha elements in modern games, especially in fighting games, so I am happy that we instead got the Character Mastery for unlocking a lot of the stuff for the characters, though I do understand why people think it is a bit too slow to level up in that.
But when Justin said he liked the Gacha stuff in fighting games, I involuntarily let out a "Fuck you!" 🤣
Makes sense why he doesn't like the Mastery system then.
No online rooms, test you might towers, co op towers etc. Half done game
Matt: I barely started the Story Mode.
Oh, so this episode is basically a mulligan.
Is it crazy for me to say that MK1 is better because it was rushed....???
I feel like, with time, QA would have pushed back on all the crazy stuff we can do.
Most MK1 reviews:
W gameplay
L kontent
Neat
so, none of these people are going to provide Negative Feedback regarding the 50-90 percent kombo damage/resets ?? why are they not addressing THE MAIN PROBLEM in the game?
I really do wish netherrealm could get away from WB. They will be the death of the franchise in the next 6 years. Mark my words.

Shang Tsung is the best part of the game.
I believe in Ed, Ed happens _all the time_ , but I don't _trust_ Ed.
Baki would be sick for mk1 low key
