Yes. But it gets me close enough. Normal operating temp that the fluid should be is 95-113 degrees per the service manual. Coolant temp can easily get to 195-215 degrees when fully warmed up. I have serviced enough transmissions to know that +or- a few degrees is not going to greatly impact the fluid level. The car manufacturers have super, exaggeratedly, complicated the process. Lol.
@@gautorepair Sorry but I beg to differ again. 95°F to 113°F is not normal operating temperature. It IS the temperature range specified for checking the fluid level. Normal operating temperature is likely closer to 158°F to 176°F. I say that because that's what the service/repair manual for our 2009 RAV4 specifies as normal operating temperature which is where the ATF temperature should be for the fluid to be in the hot zone on the dip-stick. (2009 RAV4 has a dip-stick.) So you are likely correct. By the time the coolant is at normal operating temperature the transmission should be in that range for checking ATF level. So yes "already warmed up" sufficiently. You were correct and I was wrong.
Dude you're going to burn that tranny up! I don't think they put that valve checker until the next model. My 2013 is like the with the plastic tube that's attached after I pull out the drain plug... I'm pretty sure those just have the ATF dipstick on the top of the engine!! Right?
@@gautorepair for the record I came here to find a reason for this vibration that's coming from what feels like the yoke where the drive shaft starts.. is like the floor vibrates every second to two seconds when I go down the road starting at about 15-30 mph. I have no idea 🧐
@@randyps Yes he pulled it taking dumb shit saying thats the check plug smh what you do to tell if its full is take a alen key and place the hooked end in the fill port like you would a rear diff
At least use a thermal gun on the transmission pan to assure you're close to the proper temperature for checking the fluid.
When adding the new fluid, does engine need to be running and at the operating temperature?
Yes
How do you know it's already warmed up?
Do you have an automatic transmission fluid temperature gauge on the vehicle?
Coolant temperature
@@gautorepair
You do realize that the transmission takes considerably longer to warm up operating temperature than the coolant does.

You are correct about the normal fluid temp 95 to 113 degrees for checking. That is what I meant to say, sorry about the confusion on that part.

Nope. No dipstick
@@gautorepair 3.3l? I just got a 08 3.5 v6 and it has a dipstick.....🤷

Hmmm. Check u-joints if its a rear wheel drive. If you have cv axle i have ran into issues with unbalanced shafts.
@@gautorepair yeah.. it's frustrating, it starts smooth and the transmission is smooth shifting.

Yes
