Lovely painting ❤ I try to draw everyday but sometimes it doesn’t work out (bcs of life) 😅so I try to do it on the weekends when I schedule time for my creative activities

there was a time in the middle of my art journey when I didn't draw for almost a year and when I got back to it, I've DRAMATICALLY improved. Now as a fulltime artist I know that it's essential to NOT draw every day. Burnout is real and it takes a lot of trial and error to learn to avoid it!

Hi Kateryna, thank you for sharing your experience! I can relate to the importance of taking breaks. Burnout is definitely real, and it's inspiring to hear how stepping away helped you improve. It's a good reminder that rest is an essential part of the creative process.

Thank you Iva for this really interesting video! I am a very consistent person in my creative practices (art and music), and I actually have to make efforts NOT to draw everyday. I love routines and consistency, and if I listened to myself, I would never take a break. But I find that it's really important to take at least one or two days a week without drawing or playing my instrument. Firstly, I have back and neck issues, so it really helps to spend a day in a different position ir doing different activities. Secondly, I find that my "creative juice" runs dry without pause, whereas it comes back flowing with much more vigor after a short break, which is exactly what you said about burnout. As a music teacher, I also try to make my students understand that quality and mindful practice time is much more important for improvement than practising for hours every day. If you are still reading, thank you for bearing with this long answer! I would be insterested to know though, how you manage to stay consistent with social media on the weeks where you can draw only one illustration. I am very consistent in my practice, and can sustain one illustration a week, but if you publish on IG three times a week for example, I find it really hard to use one illustration to make three quality posts (I can manage two posts for one illustration at most). And as consistent as I am with my practice, each time I try to be consistent with social media, I burn myself out because I feel I have to draw more and faster.

Thanks so much, Charlotte, for your thoughtful comment! I completely agree with your points on the importance of taking breaks. It's crucial for avoiding burnout and maintaining long-term creativity. As you mentioned, quality practice is more effective than sheer quantity, and it's great that you emphasize this to your students.
Regarding your question on staying consistent with social media while producing one illustration a week, that's a great topic. Posting consistently is essential, but it can indeed be challenging. One idea is to diversify your content: alongside your new work, you could share older pieces.
I think I'll create a video specifically on this topic, sharing more ideas and strategies for consistent social media posting. Thanks again for your insightful comment!
